Bathroom Counter Top And Bathroom Vanity Countertop Choices

Bathroom Counter top choices are almost infinite it seems. With new materials and technologies your selection has not been made easier. However it has never been a better time for creativity in bathroom design, since for almost any bathroom decorating idea you may have there is certainly a countertop surface material, pattern and color to fit your needs. One factor that will determine your choice of bathroom and vanity countertop besides appearance and cost will probably be durability and maintenance. Here are some of the more popular bathroom vanity counter top surfaces you'll encounter:

http://multicolorRed.com
http://multicolorred.cn
http://multicolorred.com.cn

Laminate Bathroom Countertops

A popular choice for years due to its versatility and affordability. Available in so many colors, patterns and textures that it's a breeze to coordinate with your other bathroom design elements like wall covering or fixtures. When installed on counters plastic laminate resists moisture superbly and is easy to maintain. Laminate is available in different grades, but basically affordable so don't buy the cheapest, get your moneys worth.

http://indiangreen.net
http://indiangreen.cn
http://Paradiso.net.cn

http://whitegalaxy.net
http://whitegalaxy.net
http://whitegalaxy.com.cn

Though it offers many new creative possibilities concrete tends to crack easy.

http://tropicalgreen.com.cn
http://tropicalgreen.cn
http://maplered.org

It comes in varied colors and textures, even faux stone. Solid surfacing material is used to fabricate counter tops, shower enclosures and even floors. It is not cheap, as a matter of fact it can cost almost as much as marble or granite. It is impervious to abrasions, water and dents that could occur over time. And it is easy to repair if necessary. Solid surface materials possess a lasting durability requiring minimal maintenance.

http://saphirebrown.com
http://saphirebrown.cn
http://saphirebrown.com.cn

Counter Top Resurfacing And Refinishing For Affordable Kitchen Remodeling

Countertop resurfacing and refinishing are the perfect solution for the homeowner who is ready to make a change in their kitchens decor on a budget. What these offer besides a brand new look for your kitchen is significant savings when compared to the complete replacement of your old kitchen countertops. You will save not only financially when compared with replacing your countertops completely; resurfacing or refinishing your counter tops will also save you valuable time.

http://g612.com.cn
http://g683.cn
http://g439.com.cn

If you can save the base of your present cabinets during your kitchen re-decorating project, instead of replacing them, the countertops that you now have are given a new surface or the new finish of your choosing, giving them the modern look of a stone or solid surface finish, complete with styled edges. All the work is done right in your home, avoiding the mess and time involved with removing and replacing them. Simple as that, you can have an entirely fresh new looking kitchen, saving you up to 70% off the cost of replacing your kitchen countertops. The changing of the counter top surface can be exactly what is needed to give your kitchen a new, modern appearance and with the wealth of counter top resurfacing materials, colors and designs available re-decorating your kitchen with a re-surfaced countertop is a breeze. From a simple laminate to a, increasingly popular and sophisticated 'faux' stone counter top material you should have no problem matching or complementing any of your decorating requirements and bringing your kitchen back to life in style.

http://g683.com.cn
http://g681.com.cn
http://g663.com.cn

Because you won't have to do a complete demolition of your kitchen cabinetry the time required to resurface or refinish your kitchen countertops is kept to a minimum and so is the disruption to your household. Think about it, no weeks or months of waiting for completion, typically within twenty four or forty eight hours a counter top resurfacing or refinishing job can be completed allowing you to quickly enjoy and use your redesigned kitchen in no time. This can be a do-it-yourself project or you can find a qualified kitchen design professional that will refinish or resurface your countertops as an alternative to counter top replacement. Should you decide to do the job yourself make sure you have all of the required tools and that you commit to the necessary time for completing the project.

http://blackgalaxy.org
http://blackgalaxy.com.cn
http://imperialred.net

An extra added benefit is an increase in your homes value. Should you be planning to list your home for sale, one huge selling point will be a well organized, clean and modern looking kitchen. Resurfacing can increase the value of your house aesthetically and financially. Surely a prospective buyer will have more reasons to make an offer on a home when the kitchen is appealing to them. If selling your home is part of the plan you can't go wrong with the value that will be added by this low cost kitchen make-over.

http://imperialred.com.cn
http://imperialred.cn
http://tanbrown.org

You can get the benefit of a sleek, new modern looking kitchen without the high cost of gutting your kitchen completely. Since you are looking at about a couple of days at the most to complete the job, you save in down time from your kitchen not to mention the aggravation that comes with a completely wrecked kitchen. So, instead of a complete replacement project, counter top resurfacing and counter top refinishing are definitely the affordable choices for homeowners to consider.

Outdoor Fireplace Design

The trend of building outdoor fire pits and fireplaces is catching on at a fast pace. Outdoor fireplaces come in many designs and themes and are available in portable and custom models. Outdoor fireplaces are to be built according to local codes, which usually specify the firebricks to be used. Two important factors are safe design and ventilation.

http://labradorantico.com
http://labradorantico.cn
http://emeraldpearl.org

Any outdoor fireplace design is similar to that of an indoor fireplace. One exception is that dampers are not used in outdoor fireplaces. A tall chimney, the major component of any fixed type outdoor fireplace, provides shelter from the smoke. Mexican style chimney pots called chimeneas are a beautiful addition. Outdoor fireplaces may be designed with a bowl-shaped base with a single opening connected to a stack or chimney. It circulates air into the fire and emits smoke out of the top of the stack. Etched cast iron, aluminum, or clay and terracotta are used as raw materials for fireplace construction. Cast-iron and cast aluminum outdoor fireplaces are durable and resist roaring flames and high temperatures.

http://emeraldpearl.net
http://emeraldpearl.com.cn
http://emeraldpearl.cn

Lavers and Fire Rings are low cost, decorative portable fireplaces that can be moved with ease from one place to another. Integrated fireplaces are another option and these maybe freestanding or attached. English, Eastern brick, Southwestern adobe, or Old World traditional are among the popular designs and themes.

An outdoor fireplace has a crown, overmantel, mantel shelf, header, filler panel, fire box, leg, plinth base, and hearth. Some models use the combined form of mantel shelf and header.

http://bluepearl.com.cn
http://bluepearl.net.cn
http://nerobelfast.com

Masonry construction is more durable than metal or prefabricated fireboxes, which may rust when exposed to rain or snow. Fire Rock's pre-engineered fireplace system is faster and less-expensive than hand-built, brick and mortar structures. In this case, the raw materials are available in a kit, and the homeowner can install the fireplace easily. The newly constructed fireplace is then covered with the finishing material such as brick, stone, stucco or manufactured stone.

Add Glow To Your Kitchen With Marble Tiles

The kitchen floor is the biggest surface in most homes, and it will either make or break the look of your space depending on the color scheme and tile type you choose. It is therefore important to think of your kitchen floor in terms of how it will look in the long run.

If you ever walked into someone's house and saw outdated tiles that looked as if it were in the middle ages, you will get a better understanding of the importance of finding a timeless, elegant and reliable kitchen tile. It is wise to avoid trendy new looks that fade fast and look dumpy and outdated a few minutes after the adhesive has dried, and take note of the attributes of your kitchen, as to know the type of tile to utilize.

http://whitegalaxy.net
http://whitegalaxy.net
http://whitegalaxy.com.cn

Marble Floor Tiles Are Appropriate For The Kitchen

Limestone, tumbled marble, and slate tiles are among the most elegant flooring materials available. These tiles share properties with marble, granite, and other stone materials, and are valued as much for their unique textures and color hues. Natural stone tiles, like marble however, must be sealed to prevent stains. The right wall treatments can really bring out the flooring, as well as the other materials in your kitchen.

When selecting materials for kitchen flooring, you must consider materials that are both beautiful and durable. Kitchen flooring can be used to accent the counters, cabinets, and appliances. However kitchen flooring must be able to endure daily wear and tear such as spills and heavy traffic. It's important to select the right material when it comes to kitchen flooring. If you are looking for beauty and durability, or the warmth of hardwoods, making the right flooring choice can guarantee that a quality kitchen floor will keep its beauty and last a lifetime.

http://tropicalgreen.com.cn
http://tropicalgreen.cn
http://saphirebrown.com

When designing your ideal kitchen, remember that light or neutral tones best emphasize the impression of light and space, as much as darker shades can create feelings of warmth and intimacy. A floor's finish can even show effective perceptions of size and space. A high gloss finish can contribute to the perception of spaciousness. A more subdued or a matte finish can make a space look smaller.

Using a marble tile with a light color such as white or pale cream will generally work well with a wooden cabinet finish and most counter tops and kitchen floors. However if your kitchen is a high traffic zone, you may wish to install marble tiles that have quite darker colors mixed through in a marble effect so that dirt won't quickly show, but don't go too dark as the dirt will easily show up.

http://marduragold.com
http://marduragold.com.cn
http://marduragold.cn

Marble kitchen tiles are purchased individually, so pricing would depend on your floor's square footage. Marble floor tiles are easy to install so many people can lay them themselves. This is not only an effective way to save money, but could be a great project for a weekend. Kitchen floors get wet and dirty due to daily use.

Generally, a small white tile with white grout would be the worst possible choice as everything would show on the floor and the grout would soon become dirty and discolored. Most interior experts recommend using large body marble tiles (with sizes 16x16 and up) with textures that help hide water spots and dirt, and would not require daily care as much as sooth tile.

Marble Tiles For Your Lawn Pathway? Possible!

A tile is a piece of hard-wearing material such as ceramic, stone, metal or even glass, which is manufactured for general use in covering roofs, floors, and walls, or other objects such as tabletops.

Another type of tiles is ceiling tiles, which are made from lightweight materials such as perlite, wood, and mineral wool. The word is originally derived from the French word tuile, which is, in turn derived from the Latin word tegula, which means a roof tile composed of baked clay.

http://g657.com.cn
http://g633.com.cn
http://g562.com.cn

Marble Floor Tiles Are Suited For Indoor And Outdoor Use

The sophistication and chic design attributes of marble have long been famed in the history of architecture and home design. Marble tiles have been widely used in large buildings, churches-mansions and small homes as well for centuries. There are many variants of marble tile used in residential and commercial applications.

Their uses usually range to include indoor and outdoor flooring, countertops, wall covering, fireplaces and exterior facades. However, since marble is not considered the hardest of natural stones, it would not suit well as a floor covering in extremely high traffic areas, though marble tiles are well-suited and perfect floor tiling for residential and light commercial applications. The most popular and common residential uses of marble are for window sills, fireplaces hearths, decorative foyers, bathroom floors as well as outdoor garden pathways, columns, steps and other surfaces.

http://g611.com.cn
http://g439.cn
http://shanxiblack.com.cn

Other bathroom applications for marble tiles include wall covering, backsplashes, tub decks and showers. Thanks to their durability, and their ability to not suffer the ravages of time and the strain of daily, public use, some marble tiles have proven to be ideal for outdoor furnishings. And with the placement of special finishing's, marble floor tiles could manage to combine class and functionality in each element. Marble's other outdoor uses include covering for stone posts, benches and flower boxes.

Which Type Of Marble Floor Tiles Are Good For Outdoor Use

Natural stone tiles like marble can be especially beautiful and appealing to the senses. However, as a natural product, they are a little less uniform in color and pattern and require further planning for use and installation. Since most stone tiles are mass-produced, they have very uniform width and length dimensions.

http://g663.cn
http://g614.com.cn
http://g617.com.cn

Stone tiles such as those of granite or marble are sawn on both sides and then polished or finished on the facing up side, in order for them to have a uniform thickness. Some stone tiles such as polished granite and marble are inherently very slippery when wet. A process is generally done to enable a marble floor to be slip-resistant when used for outdoor purposes, such as installing them in outdoor foyers and pathways.

Stone tiles with riven, or split surfaces are sandblasted to help them become more slip resistant. The hardness of natural stone floor tiles could vary such that some of the softer stone, like limestone tiles, are not suitable for very heavy traffic floor areas. There are marble tile types that are literally "tumbled" in a machine process that knocks off the edges and roughens the textures to create an "antiqued", or aged effect. Tumbled marble has a rather rough or lightly sand-blasted feel, which makes it less slippery, and could be used effectively for outdoor use, such as lawn or outdoor pathways.

http://g612.com.cn
http://g683.cn
http://g439.com.cn

Designing Walkways For Style and Function

It is unlikely that you want a driveway or walkway to be a dominant feature in your yard. When you are planning these areas, you should allow enough space for them to be fully functional--to allow enough room for the traffic they will receive--without being overbearing. Ideally, you should design your home so that the garage is close to the house and near the street. Having the garage near the street and close to the home will make less pathways necessary.

http://tanbrown.com.cn
http://RawSilk.net.cn
http://Paradiso.net.cn

Your driveway needs to be large enough to allow for off-street parking. You need to design the structure of the driveway well also. Most importantly, you need to create a quality drainage system. If the soil under the driveway cannot drain, the wet soil will cause the driveway to break down, especially with heavy vehicles driving on it. You should build your driveway out of stable materials that won't be washed away by storms or displaced by snowplows. Exceptions can be made to stable materials if your driveway is exceptionally large, or if your landscaping style calls for something else. In these cases, gravel or crushed rocks can work. If you use materials such as these, just know that you will have more maintenance to do.

http://multicolorRed.com
http://multicolorred.cn
http://multicolorred.com.cn

Walkways should look like they belong where they are placed. Adding paths through your landscaping garden will greatly improve your lawn. It will encourage people to wander through your yard to view the beautiful things you planted. In addition, the path can add a unique look, and it will allow you to get back to work on your plants without trampling over other plants.

You must be very conscious of the material you choose for the path. Concrete may not be right, especially for a path through a garden. More natural materials such as wood, flagstone, or tanbark, would be better alternatives for this. If you have a colonial house, brink will compliment it well. A more modern house tends to look nice with wood. Of course there are variations to this, but you need to use your personal style and desire to make your choice.

http://indiangreen.net
http://indiangreen.cn
http://maplered.org

Garden Pools and Fountains

All plants and animals need water to live, so it is no surprise that we are naturally attracted to water in any form. The use of water will enrich your garden and delight your senses. You can even have a garden pool on your patio or terrace if you wish. Moving water is especially intriguing, such as a fountain or a winding stream. These water features can be intermixed with garden flowers and stones for a very nice effect. The water will actually help the plants grow, just through it's evaporation. This is a method of giving plants relief from excessive heat and dryness.

You should be able to see the pool or water feature from multiple places in your garden. It is pretty simple to install a small pool or fountain in your garden. You do not need much power, just a small motor and pump for the fountain or if you have a small stream. You can be creative incorporating bricks into the landscape with the styling you choose for the water feature and the area around it.

Precious And Semi-Precious Deep Blue Colored Gemstones

A number of gemstones occur in blue colors with various depths of color and hues. A few gemstones are found with close to the deep blue of the earth from space. The one gemstone I believe is the closest to the color you suggested is Lapis Lazuli. Since many commercially available semi-precious gems are dyed and otherwise treated to create colors in the stone materials, I will first describe stones which occur naturally in deep blue colors.

http://whitegalaxy.net
http://whitegalaxy.net
http://whitegalaxy.com.cn

Lapis Lazuli is a gemstone from use since ancient times. Think of some of the blues used by the ancient Egyptians who used both lapis and blue glass in ornamentation. This is a "massive" gemstone, meaning it is not in clear crystals but rather made of many small particles bonded together.

The best deep purple blue comes from Afghanistan and is very close to the ocean color. Recently, a form called "denim lapis" has been offered but this is the grayish light blue material which was rejected as poor quality years ago. Some of the lighter and more gray grades of lapis come from Chile.

http://tropicalgreen.com.cn
http://tropicalgreen.cn
http://saphirebrown.com
http://saphirebrown.cn
http://saphirebrown.com.cn

"Gem grade" lapis is not a precious stone but will not be inexpensive. Gem grade is the richest of color, generally without pyrite (fools gold) showing and pure color across the cut gem. Some people consider pure dark blue lapis without the sparkles of pyrite the best while others give equal value to pure dark blue stones with a uniform and eye-pleasing display of pyrite.

The pyrite in lapis gives a golden twinkle from each speck of these fools gold. Going a bit down in quality, lapis with the pure dark blue color may have white streaks. These stones will look something like your suggested photograph with the clouds added to the blue.

http://marduragold.com
http://marduragold.com.cn
http://marduragold.cn

The more the lapis varies from the pure dark blue the lower the value becomes. The so-called "denim lapis" is a marketing term used to sell this stone. Personally, though much lower in price than higher grades, the mix of nice "denim" material works well in less costly jewelry and is pretty attractive. The material is colored something like stone washed blue jeans and I suppose that is where the name "denim lapis" originated. "Sodality" is close to the color of lapis but generally more blackish with variations with white material in the rock.

"Lazulite" is an uncommon mineral which forms crystals of an intense deep blue. This is not a semi-precious stone and is of more interest to mineral collectors. Lazulite is the mineral giving Lapis its rich color. Another mineral collector's choice is "azurite", a deep blue mineral which is not a semi-precious stone but adds color to a few gemstones of mixed green and blues shades such as "Eilat Stone", a fairly soft stone sometimes sold as semi-precious. The stones mentioned are the main ones showing the dark blue color you indicated. For use in jewelry, only Lapis Lazuli and Sodality qualify in that color range.

http://kashmirgold.net
http://kashmirgold.com.cn
http://kashmirgold.cn

To see more of lapis or any stone mentioned in this answer, simply search the web. For better stones, I suggest you say something like "gem grade lapis". Stones cut like opals, lapis, tiger eye, black onyx, etc., are called "cabochons". Cabochons are flat or domed cut stones, unlike faceted stones like diamonds, sapphire, blue topaz, etc. As a note, some sites call stones "gem grade" when in fact the stones are of lower quality. Also, be aware that many cabochons stones are dyed and treated to make lower grade material look like the more valuable natural stones.

Other blue stones, like "Agate" will sometimes show blue color but most is more a pale blue to medium blue. Any really dark blues are likely dyed. "Tanzanite" is a faceted gemstone, cut from clear crystals. The color ranges from pale blue to a deep electric blue. This is not inexpensive in better grades. "Lolita" is a faceted gemstone which is not very costly but does show a deep purple blue in well cut stones. The color varies with the direction you look through the gemstone.

http://kashmirwhite.net
http://kashmirwhite.cn
http://kashmirwhite.com.cn

"Spinal" is mostly thought of as a stone for "class rings" and lots of manmade spinel is used in those rings. Spinel is a natural stone rarely seen but one color is a deep and lovely blue. Spinel may also be red in color. "Tourmaline" is a faceted gemstone and colors are all over the rainbow.

A blue type is called "Indicolite" and may be pale to very, very dark blue. Other blue stones which are considered either precious gems or are too light in blue color to match the ocean view from space are: Blue topaz (treated to get the dark blues), Aquamarine (paler blue), Turquoise and Blue Zircon (heat treated to make it blue).

A note about precious and semi-precious gems: Some of the "precious gems" like sapphire may cost less than a gem quality lapis or spinel, for instance. The price all depends on the quality of the particular stone. Over all, quality level by quality level, precious gems like diamond, sapphire and ruby will be much more expensive than the other stones. A semi-precious stone may range in a few dollars to several hundreds or thousands of dollars depending on quality, such as with "Opals".

http://juparanaColombo.com
http://juparanacolombo.cn
http://bahamablue.com.cn

Some of the semi-precious stones like "Agate" will command higher prices for especially beautiful stones but will not compete even closely to better precious gems. What we like is all in the eye of the wearer! Lapis like the ocean seen from space is a lovely gemstone.

Choosing the Right Bathroom Vanity Design

One of the easiest ways to revamp your bathroom is with a new bathroom vanity. The most important feature when picking a bathroom vanity is the design; they really make the space more pleasant. A new vanity under your bathroom sink will not only give you a place to store away items, but can also add more counter space to put all your toiletries on.

http://g663.com.cn
http://blackgalaxy.org
http://blackgalaxy.com.cn

http://imperialred.net
http://imperialred.com.cn
http://imperialred.cn

Often when people plan a bathroom remodel, they neglect the storage. With several people sharing one home, though, having a vanity to store all the items they need in the bathroom is a good feature. Reducing clutter also adds to the beauty and design of your bathroom space.

When shopping for new vanities, you must first measure the amount of space you'll be able to devote to the new vanity. Most vanities come in widths of 18 inches up to 48 inches, in increments of 6 inches. There are many different designs to consider, as well. Your vanity should coincide with other fixtures and design features in your bathroom. There are modern, classic, deco, antique, and many other styles to choose from. They don't just come in wood, either; there are many different materials to choose from.

http://tanbrown.org
http://tanbrown.com.cn
http://RawSilk.net.cn

There are generally a few categories bathroom storage units will fall under. There are those with cabinetry, which could be vanity cabinets, wall cabinets, recessed cabinets and medicine cabinets. Some vanities or storage pieces also have open shelving. Then there are over the toilet cabinets and linen closets. As far as design goes, cabinet vanities are often the most aesthetically pleasing. There are face-frame vanity cabinets, which are more traditional and formal. Then there are frameless vanity cabinets and European style vanities, which are more modern.

http://multicolorRed.com
http://multicolorred.cn
http://multicolorred.com.cn

It's a good design choice to match any period-style cabinets with period-style knobs and pulls in your bathroom. As far as vanity cabinet countertops go, you have a few choices. There are laminates, ceramic tile, wood, composite materials or solid surface materials including stone, stainless steel and concrete. Laminates, composites, solid surface materials and stainless steel are easier to scratch, but composites or solid surface materials are very easy to repair or replace. Wood is beautiful, but must be maintained. Stone countertops are the most durable and aesthetically pleasing, but they are more expensive.

http://indiangreen.net
http://indiangreen.cn
http://Paradiso.net.cn

Ceramic tile is probably the most common bathroom vanity surface material. It's durable and doesn't stain easily. You can also find a lot of choices, because they're so common. Whatever material and style you choose, making the effort to find a bathroom vanity that suits your storage and design needs will pay off. New bathroom vanities add more storage and a pleasant look to your bathroom.

How To Choose The Best Bathroom Flooring

We spend quite a bit of time in our bathrooms. In fact, most people use their bathrooms at least an hour every day. If you're thinking an hour isn't really that much, consider that it actually adds up to 6% of the time we are awake and as much as 15% of the time we are home. With this much of our time invested in hanging out in the bathroom, it makes sense to search for beautiful and functional bathroom flooring.

Since there are six types of flooring each of these types comes in many styles, there are plenty of great options.

http://imperialred.net
http://imperialred.com.cn
http://imperialred.cn

One of the most popular flooring choices is tile. Tile is extremely durable and attractive and will rarely crack. Since you can find tile made with ceramic, stone, or composite material, you can select from a wide variety of styles and surfaces. Concrete floors are a choice that is gaining in popularity, especially since they can be colored and etched to create beautiful, stylish designs.

Of course, no flooring choice is perfect and tile does have some negative features.

Tile floors must be installed on a completely level surface without any lumps or holes. If they are installed on uneven surfaces, the tiles may crack from taking the full weight of all that foot traffic on areas that aren't level. In addition, most tile designs are grouted between tiles and there is a lot of work involved in cleaning the grouted areas.

However, despite these drawbacks, tile flooring is a durable and lovely choice.

In the past, most homeowners opted for vinyl flooring. After all, despite the fact that few of the choices were attractive, vinyl was affordable and fairly easy to install. Luckily, today's vinyl sheet and tile flooring is much more stylish. In fact, at first glance, many designs look like expensive, beautiful stone flooring.

http://tanbrown.org
http://tanbrown.com.cn
http://RawSilk.net.cn

This makes vinyl a wonderful choice for homeowners who are on a tight budget, but want to enjoy some of the best benefits of a tile floor. Vinyl can handle spills and wet feet without any trouble and it is very durable. Cleaning is a snap. Even better, vinyl can be torn by something sharp, but it is much more forgiving of an uneven surface than tile.

Several generations ago, selecting flooring wasn't much of a challenge, since hardwoods were the only available type most people could afford. While they lost popularity when newer, cheaper flooring alternatives became available, hardwoods are once more a common choice.

http://multicolorRed.com
http://multicolorred.cn
http://multicolorred.com.cn

One reason for the renewed popularity of hardwoods is the beauty of this flooring. Gleaming Brazilian Teak, Chinese Cherry, or American Oak flooring has an elegance and beauty that man-made materials can't compete with. In addition, new sealing methods allow homeowners to enjoy water repellent and mildew resistant wood flooring.

For people who want the look of hardwoods or expensive stone options without the hefty price tag, laminate flooring is an excellent option. Laminates are made to look like wood, marble, or slate, but are actually made with a layer of clear resin over a paper layer that looks like the real thing, adhered to two foundation layers.

http://indiangreen.net
http://indiangreen.cn
http://Paradiso.net.cn

Laminate is a durable, low maintenance option. This material can be made to look like almost any flooring option and are a great choice for an odd sized room, since they can be custom cut and designed for that space.

Finally, there is the oldest flooring option of all - slate, marble, or other real stone materials. Stone was used in the Roman baths and still is holding up several thousand years later. Stone is stain resistant and can be cleaned with most cleaning products.

Of course, all that beauty and durability does come at a price. Stone is usually pricier than other bathroom flooring choices. However, since it will not need to be replaced over the years like some other materials, it can actually be a good investment.

Now that you know the options, you're ready for the fun part. You get to choose the right flooring for your home.

Natural Stone Tiles - The Confusion Surrounding Sealing

There would seem based my own experience that there is a lot of confusion amongst the general public and some builders as to what sealing natural stone actually means.

When we talk about sealing a surface we normally mean that an impenetrable barrier is painted on or applied in some way. For example tiled floors are often sealed to give them added protection and make them shine. To do this a series of coats of emulsion polish are applied to the surface and allowed to dry. This seals the floor and gives it protection. Other surfaces such as wood are often sealed with a coating of a polyurethane product. This adds strength to the surface and protects it. Many other normally porous surfaces can be sealed with a layer that sits on the surface acting as a barrier to penetrative agents and gives protection also.

http://shanxiblack.com.cn
http://g663.cn
http://g614.com.cn

The sealing of natural stone such as marble, granite, limestone and slate is very different. Natural stone is made up of crystals that interlock together. The actual minerals that are present as crystals in the stone give it its color and striations. However there are spaces between the crystal and the smaller these spaces are and the more the crystals have been compacted together the less porous the stone is. So these spaces will determine the porosity of the stone. A combination of pore size and mineral content of the stone will also determine its hardness and thus its durability. These spaces in the stone are air filled when the stone is dry and water filled when the stone is wet. Bacteria inhabit these spaces and these are often vital for the maintenance of the stone. Very little research has been carried out into these bacteria but what has been done would suggest that they are essential in maintaining the integrity of the stone.

http://g617.com.cn
http://g612.com.cn
http://g683.cn

Consequently we have the picture of stone as quite a complex mix of minerals, bacteria and spaces. You must imagine the stone to be something akin to a very hard sponge! If you drop a liquid onto the stone it will be absorbed and spread through the spaces. This is why what initially looked like a small spillage can end up as quite a large stain in the stone. To remove the stain it has to be flushed out of these spaces. All a stone sealer does it fill up these spaces. Many of the stone sealants in use are based on fatty acids rather than synthetic sealants. These natural sealants are better because they do not destroy the bacteria but often enhance them. Synthetic sealants will destroy these bacteria that have longer-term consequences on the stones makeup. Sealants based on fat however have a shorter lifespan and must be renewed periodically.

http://g439.com.cn
http://g683.com.cn
http://g681.com.cn

Whatever sealant is used it simply fills up the spaces between the crystals it does not cover the surface of the stone. Its purpose is simply to delay the penetration of liquids into the stone. So if corrosive materials get onto the stone then it will be damaged. Stone sealants do not form a protective 'seal' on the surface of the stone. Consequently stone is only protected from absorbing liquids. It is not protected from surface damage.

Stone Saws - For Cutting Stone, Marble And Granite Slabs And Tiles

Cutting stone, granite and marble for use in interior design is an easier task today. Modern stone saws are now designed on computers, and come with features such as laser guides, adjustable legs and water pumps to ensure accurate, comfortable, and low cost cutting. Some electric tile saws are also wet tile saws that offer better precision.

http://india-granite.in
http://indian-stone.in
http://black-granite.net

In interior design, stone, granite and marble have been used for their decorative beauty since the beginning of architectural time. Granite and marble have versatile uses; they can be used for building artwork, on the walls as tiles or on the floors for the shine. Marble is also used on the pool side due to its coolant feature. In addition to that marble has stood a good reputation when it comes to durability as a decorative material. Comparatively, granite is a harder stone than marble, and is used more commonly in public places due to the low costs.

http://black-granite.cn
http://black-granite.com

Both marble and granite are popular for countertops and flooring due to the high quality gloss they can give off. These are found in various colors and patterns created by nature. The stones are unique in looks and artsy due to minerals that give them the natural artistic appearance.

For cutting large marble and granite slabs, stone saws are used. There are 2 main varieties of stone saws - overhead rail saws and track saws. The overhead rail saws are more expensive. But they let you cut your slabs with more comfort. Some saws come with adjustable legs and you can adjust these according to your height.

http://chinastonemanufacturer.org
http://chinastonesupplier.org
http://wholesalestone.org

You can cut 10' slabs of granite and marble in just a minute and a half using the Imer 1000 stone saw. These saws use a water pump to cool the blade down. The adjustable cutting head can make quick plunge cuts apart from L cuts. This stone saw comes with a folding stand and side cutting table. The stone saw also has 4 adjustable legs, a slide out water tray and a bright red safety stop switch. Due to the ease of use features and the affordable price, this stone saw is now a top choice for professionals and new users alike.

http://chinastoneexporter.org
http://kitchenstone.net
http://stonemarket.org

Those looking to shop with ease can buy online. The wise thing to do is buy a stone saw online from someone who has been in tool sales for more than a decade or so and has a nice reputation in the market. They will give you the best assistance you can find.

Installing Kitchen Countertops

A fast way to make a dramatic change to your kitchen is to install new kitchen countertops. A countertop overhaul can be as simple as installing new material on your already existing counter or as involved as having completely new counters made.

One of the hardest choices is picking out of the seemingly endless list of materials just exactly what your new kitchen countertops will be made of. There is stone, stone-synthetic composite, completely synthetic material, plastic laminate or ceramic tile.

http://VerdeUbatuba.cn
http://carmenred.net
http://carmenred.com

Under each of this kitchen countertop categories are hundreds of available subcategories, colors and styles. To narrow the decision, decide which material will hold up the best under your normal kitchen conditions.

Plastic laminate, tile, and synthetic kitchen countertops will scratch, so be sure to use a cutting board. Granite countertops don't scratch, but they do need periodic resealing. Stone-synthetic composite countertops don't need to be resealed and many claim they are as scratch resistant as granite.

http://carmenred.cn
http://balticbrown.net
http://balticbrown.com.cn

All of the different materials used for kitchen countertops can stain, however. Red wine, mustard, and curry powder are common culprits and it is important to keep countertops wiped clean to avoid the hassle. Perhaps the most popular material used for kitchen countertops is synthetic material, also called solid surfacing materials. The most widely known of this material is Corian, produced by DuPont. Other manufacturers are Formica, Aventine, and Wilson Art.

There are a few reasons for the popularity of synthetic kitchen countertops. For example, when they are installed, no seams are visible. This gives a sleek finish with counters that appear cut from a single piece to fit your kitchen.

http://balticbrown.cn
http://tropicalbrown.cn
http://tropicalbrown.com.cn

Another reason synthetic kitchen countertops are popular is the variety of colors and styles they are available in. Many are made to resemble real stone, with flecks of color that give a textured look. They are also available in colors no natural stone could have, such as vivid greens and reds. Synthetic kitchen countertops also have the handy feature of being able to sand out scratches. Though possible, actually buffing the scratch out completely may be more difficult that it sounds as many people don't have the necessary sanding tools.

Those with a higher budget often opt for stone kitchen countertops. There is no denying the elegant appeal of marble or Blue Perl granite with its dark grey stone and translucent chips. Granite is a particular favorite because it is extremely durable as well as elegant.

http://labradorantico.com
http://labradorantico.cn
http://emeraldpearl.org

Granite kitchen countertops are almost impossible to scratch or damage with a hot pan. Because it is a porous stone, however, granite must be periodically resealed and even sealed will stain if substances are not cleaned off fairly quickly. In the high-traffic, elegant kitchen, however, periodic resealing is a small price to pay for such durability.

Kitchen countertops are a big choice when remodeling a kitchen. They can create drama with color or design or add to a sleek, streamlined look. Every material has its positives and negatives so it is important to know how it will be used and how to care for it.

Comparing Kitchen Countertop Materials

I was helping my daughter having her kitchen remodelled recently. She was having problems trying to decide on a new countertop material. Walking through the counters area in Home Depot gave her a few ideas, but she was still undecided when the time came to choose a month later. I decided to write out a quick comparison of all the materials and costs for her and when I was done I thought other people might find it useful as well, so here goes.

http://kashmirgold.net
http://kashmirgold.com.cn
http://kashmirgold.cn

Most people are familiar with laminate countertops. (Formica is one brand name.) They're a thin surface of high-pressure laminate applied to a thicker base of plywood or particleboard. Pluses: The standby, available in literally hundreds of patterns and colors, laminates are the least expensive (next to tile) and durable, requiring less upkeep than tile. Minuses: Easy to scorch with hot cookware, the use of layers in their construction makes it tricky to repair chips, show scratches, especially lighter colors, so not usable as a cutting surface. Less durable than natural stone or solid surface; use with under mount sinks is not recommended. Cost: $25 to $50 foot

http://kashmirwhite.net
http://kashmirwhite.cn
http://kashmirwhite.com.cn

Solid surfacing, (brand names Corian, Fountainhead, Avonite and Surrell) a newer countertop material, is durable and mimics the appearance of natural stone materials like marble or granite. Pluses: Gives seamless surfaces, easy to care for. High impact resistance, easily repaired, nonporous and seamless, so won't trap dirt, collect bacteria or stain; easily. Minuses: May melt from hot pot; looks non-natural in some color schemes, licensed contractor required for installation and repair work. Cost: $60 to $110 per foot.

Natural woods. Used in butcher-block style arrangement. Maple, oak and other hardwoods, make durable and elegant countertops. Pluses: Good surface for cutting foods; scratches easily repaired by sanding; easy match with wood cabinets and floors. Minuses: Requires a finish to preserve appearance, may scorch with hot cookware, allows bacterial growth, so needs regular cleaning. Not practical for entire countertop – good for small sections. Cost: $50 to $75 per foot

http://juparanaColombo.com
http://juparanacolombo.cn
http://bahamablue.com.cn

Granite. Popular for their elegant and rich look, natural stone countertops will last longer than most kitchens. Pluses: Adds to value of home, hard durable surface, very heat resistant. Minuses: very expensive, requires care since it is porous and must be sealed periodically, grease will stain. Cost: 60 to $200 per foot for granite $60 to $130 per foot for marble (stains easily and not recommended for food prep countertop)

Ceramic or Porcelain Tile: This is the countertop material my daughter was replacing. While the counters were in pretty bad shape, refurbishing was an option. Tile has a comforting, classic look and is inexpensive.. Pluses: Easy to clean up after a mess. More heat resistant than laminates solid surfaces, inexpensive, unless you are thinking about custom or hand-painted tiles. Minuses: Can chip and crack easily; needs regular maintenance to keep bacteria out of grout. Scrubbing grout. Cost: $10 to $25 per foot.

http://bahamablue.cn
http://VerdeUbatuba.net
http://VerdeUbatuba.com

So, what countertop material did she choose in the end? For it's reasonable cost and reparability, Corian got the nod for the new kitchen. We found a color that was very close to a granite look and we also liked the ten year warranty.

Outdoor Stone Fireplace Design - What Are Your Various Options?

For many homeowners, there is nothing quite like an outdoor stone fireplace design. They can dramatically change your home's landscape as well as provide a peaceful feeling. Here are some simple tips to get you started with your outdoor stone fireplace design.

With any type of outdoor fireplace made with stone you will have several options in materials.

http://volgablue.com
http://volgablue.cn
http://imperialbrown.com

-Natural stones - This is the most common material of all outdoor fireplace design. You have the ability to pick from an endless array of natural stones that you can use any way you see fit.

They can be used in the entire fireplace design or only in certain parts of the fireplace. For example, you could have a stone fireplace with a wood mantle or a stone mantle if you desire.

Stone is a very low maintenance material that only requires water sealing every few years. It is also extremely durable.

http://imperialbrown.cn
http://venezianogold.cn
http://venezianogold.co

-Cultured stone - This is another option for any outdoor stone fireplace design. The difference with this type of stone is that it is a cast stone. This means its lighter, can be made into different sizes, and it is much easier to handle and set in place. If you haven't looked at this option you might want to.

- Marble/Limestone/Slate/Granite - These are all other popular materials for an outdoor fireplace. Marble is expensive, but has a multitude of design capabilities. Granite works well due to its ease in being cleaned as well as the fact that it is the ultimate in no maintenance.

A stone outdoor fireplace design is one of those areas where you can really use your imagination with. There is no "one" set option, only what you would like.

Countertop Materials

The question today isn't so much what's on your countertop as what is your countertop made of? Right now my answer would be laminate, but I'm dreaming of the day when I can say marble. Or maybe even recycled glass-really!

If marble's more your style than recycled glass, here are some traditional countertop choices. (The innovative ones are below, so keep reading!)

http://VerdeUbatuba.cn
http://carmenred.net
http://carmenred.com

Laminate. One of the most affordable options, laminate is comprised of several layers of heated and compressed paper. The color or pattern you see on the countertop is just the top layer. Lucky you, when it comes to laminate countertops the colors, patterns, and design choices are almost endless, so you can emulate the traditional look of stone or go wild with color.

Ceramic Tile. Counters topped with vitreous tile can accept hot pots and pans without scorching and resist moisture from splashes around sinks. The variety of ceramic tile sizes, shapes, and colors makes it perfect for adding style to your kitchen. Just keep in mind that installing ceramic tile can be labor-intensive and pricey. And you'll have to work to keep those grout lines clean.

http://carmenred.cn
http://balticbrown.net
http://balticbrown.com.cn

Natural Stone. Granite, marble, and soapstone are the most popular stone countertop options. Natural stone gets major points because it's tough yet elegant, and you can choose from polished, honed, flamed, or tumbled finishes. Keep in mind that most natural stone surfaces require regular sealing. Stone can be a particularly pricey option depending on the type you choose, however. To save money, you might want to consider stone tiles instead.

Solid Surfacing. Another option if you're not quite ready to fork over the money for natural stone, synthetic surfacing resembles stone and comes in a variety of colors and patterns. It's nonporous and durable, but it can be scratched and burned (no setting hot pots directly on the countertop like you can with real stone!).

http://balticbrown.cn
http://tropicalbrown.cn
http://tropicalbrown.com.cn

Stainless Steel. It doesn't get much more contemporary than stainless steel countertops. This material is durable and easy to clean. But be careful-stainless steel scratches easily, and it's not cheap to replace.

Concrete. Countertops made of concrete are durable and easy to clean if they're sealed properly. Concrete can be colored any shade and, as a bonus, its pigmented finish is stain-resistant. Much like stainless steel, concrete is best suited for contemporary kitchens.

Butcher Block. Someday I'll have a stretch butcher-block in my kitchen. But until then I'll have to be content just writing about it. Butcher block is made from hardwood strips that are glued together. Common hardwoods used include oak, cherry, bamboo, and maple. Moisture will damage butcher block, so keep it away from sink areas. And if you finish your butcher block, make sure you choose a finish that's safe for food contact-because what good is butcher block if you aren't going to cut on it?

If you were intrigued when I mentioned countertops made from recycled glass, you're in luck. Here are a few innovative countertop choices worth considering next time you go countertop shopping. (And if you know of any other cool new countertop creations I missed, let me know!)

Squeak Mountain Stone. These eco-friendly countertops are made from a fibrous-cement material comprised of recycled paper, recycled glass, coal fly-ash, and Portland cement. It's a great alternative to natural or quarried stone and resembles soapstone or limestone.

http://labradorantico.com
http://labradorantico.cn
http://emeraldpearl.org

Vetrazzo. These countertops are made of 85 percent recycled glass and come in a slew of fun colors. Recycled glass countertops sound breakable (or sharp!) but they're not-in fact, Vetrazzo surfaces are so smooth, they're comparable to granite. Bonus: The company sponsors a Recycle Vetrazzo program, where people can recycle their old recycled Vetrazzo countertops (yep, that's a lot of recycling going on there).

Bamboo. These cool countertops are made of solid bamboo plywood and are laminated with a formaldehyde-free adhesive.

Fusionstone. It's not eco-friendly like the other innovative countertops mentioned above, but Fusionstone is pretty cool. A layer of ultra-clear glass is fused to exotic stone slabs to protect the stone from scratching and stains while still showcasing its natural beauty.

http://emeraldpearl.net
http://emeraldpearl.com.cn
http://emeraldpearl.cn

Quartz Surfacing. This material combines 93 percent quartz with 7 percent resin to create a countertop that's twice as strong as granite-can you believe that! It's more maintenance-free than granite too because it's nonabsorbent, easily wiped clean, and is insanely durable (no need to worry about scratches or stains). It is typically as expensive as the real deal though.

The Qualities Which Make Marble Tiles A Notch Higher Than The Rest

Marble is a unique natural stone that has been historically associated with the development of the civilized world, as this material has been the staple for use in design and construction in ancient Rome, the Aztecs, and with the major empires in Asia, and in Europe.

The tiles and slabs crafted from marble have been frequently associated with refinement and class, and these tiling materials are best recognized for the rivulets of color that run through their earthy and rich surface.

http://whitegalaxy.cn
http://verdeubatuba.com.cn
http://cafeimperial.orghttp://whitegalaxy.cn

Marble Tiles Have Varied Colors And Patterns

Generally, marble tiles naturally vary in color, and effectively serve as an added bonus for creating stylish layouts. Genuine marble tiles have a beautiful, unique finish like no other surface, complete with all their whirling patterns and variations in shading.

However, these same unique patterns that make marble truly wonderful may be a tough task for some to properly match from tile to tile. In order to make sure that the tile's patterns properly match, tiling experts recommend having your contractor lay out the tiles over the entire surface before installing, in order for you to initially view the prospective outcomes. Your tiles should also originate from the same batch it was sourced from.

http://cafeimperial.com.cn
http://cafeimperial.cn
http://aranwhite.com

How Experts Recommend Using These Tile Variants

According to tiling professionals, these types of tiles, just like most stone tiles, generally have higher and more thorough maintenance regimens. These materials need to be properly sealed and cleaned in a regular fashion, and you should only use a mild, or manufacturer-approved detergent or product

Also, ensure that you never set your drink, especially some acidic juice, down on a marble surface, as it will leave a ring, and quickly wipe off any spills that can stain or etch the tile's porous surface. Tiling experts also recommend that you hire an expert installer when laying-out these materials, since these tiles generally cost from around $5 to $15 per square foot.

http://zimbabweblack.com
http://rosaporrino.com
http://mahoganydakota.com

Special Cleaning Methods For This Tile

When these types of tile variant become dull, they can be restored to their earlier shine and gloss by utilizing a commercial marble cleaner and polish. Most companies these days manufacture and sell polish-cleaners that are often utilized on softer imported marbles, which are also considered safe for use in harder U.S. marble variants. Putty powder or tin oxide can also be utilized in polishing either dulled or etched surfaces, by rubbing on them with a damp cloth, or preferably using an electric polisher for buffing.

http://gialloornamental.net
http://gialloornamental.com.cn
http://lillagerais.com

According to interior design consultants, marble is to the home as diamond jewelry is to women. These natural stone materials are considered to be timeless, classic and luxurious materials. Apart from its innate beauty, some even argue that this natural stone stands out from the rest, and is truly perfect for application in homes.

Some individuals sometimes often confuse marble for granite; however the two rocks are very different. Experts say that you can easily notice the difference between marble and granite, as marble will have streaks of color running through it, which is referred to as veining, while granite has flecks of color and has no veins.

An Overview of Slate Tiles

This unique, exotic stone is frequently referred to as a rebellious alternative to the ordinary, uninteresting granite standard of stonework, because of its similar strength and resistance to weathering.
http://VerdeUbatuba.cn
http://carmenred.net
http://carmenred.com

Sizes
Slate is a stone naturally mined from stone quarries and mountains worldwide. This material, when removed, looks like sizable boulders of rock. These boulders are finished into square shapes, and then cut into sizes and forms that can be easily used.

Slate tiles are available in standard sizes of 12 inches by 12 inches. Other tiles, however, are available in 16-inch, or even 24-inch squares. These tiles can often be found in thicknesses of one-half to three-fourths inches deep. Sizes larger than 24 inches square are usually described as slabs. Essentially, slabs are larger, thicker, and more irregularly shaped than tiles.

Tiles can also be cut into smaller squares. In fact, a skilled fabricator is able to cut these tiles into various exotic forms, and even circles. Although most 12-inch square tiles are available in thicknesses of 3/8 inches, this number can vary slightly. Slate stones are dimensional in nature, and this affects the tile's thickness.

http://carmenred.cn
http://balticbrown.net
http://balticbrown.com.cn

Finishing
Slate tiles can be purchased with many different types of finishes.

For example, the most dimensional finish is available when clefted slate is used. This form of stone features peaks, as well as breaks, within the stone's surface. This type of finish, often described as natural, appears to have been removed directly from a mountainside. This is actually the case. Additionally, the degree of cleft present in a stone differs depending on the type of material. While some tiles are flat, they are still referred to as clefted, because they are not perfectly smooth but feature a rare bump or rise in the surface. Other tiles that have huge bumps, breaks, and crevasses are also described as clefted. Handle the stone to get a concept of the amount of cleft present. This quality will have a significant impact on how workable the stone is, or how level it would be if walked on. These stones provide the most traction and prevention against slipping.

Another type of finish is honed slate. This type of tile has been smoothed with the use of a powered sander or polisher until it is nearly flat and smooth. Honed slate often features alterations in color. Usually colors are less bright, although sometimes interesting patterns arise from the grinding down of peaks and crevasses that were previously present. These tiles are not as protective against slipping, but do provide an intermediate degree of traction.

http://balticbrown.cn
http://tropicalbrown.cn
http://tropicalbrown.com.cn

Slate can also be polished until it achieves a high gloss, or luster. Only certain types of slate can be polished to this extent; others can only become hi-honed.

In contrast, brushed slate is ground down only to the point where the peaks are removed from the clefts. The dimensional nature of the stone is unaffected.

Gauged tiles are leveled at the factory until each is approximately of the same thickness. Only top-quality gauged materials should be used; if tiles are not all the same size, the project will be full of gaps.
http://labradorantico.com
http://labradorantico.cn
http://emeraldpearl.org

Exterior Slate Tiles
Certain types of slate are useful for outdoor projects, while others are not. The chemical structure of the tile is the primary characteristic that defines how useful the tile will be outdoors. Red slates, for example, are not durable if used outside. The reason for this is that the red hue often results from iron oxide that has formed on the stone's surface. Iron oxide is the same compound that creates rust, and the tile responds in to iron oxide in much the same way that metal responds to rust. It tends to crumble after prolonged exposure to rain and snow.

Other factors affecting the stone's durability include its ability to absorb water, and the degree to which it tends to cleft, or split.

Any slate product that is used outdoors should be sealed with a water-resistant sealant that clogs the stone's pores. Additionally, understand that the effects of normal weathering include the dulling of colors present in natural slate tiles.

http://emeraldpearl.net
http://emeraldpearl.com.cn
http://emeraldpearl.cn

Proper Tile Care and Maintenance
Typically, slate absorbs very little water. Therefore, stains or other liquids rarely permeate the stone's pores or damage the stone internally. Water-resistant sealants are usually applied to slate tiles during the installation process. This protects the stone against molds or stains.

Using a sealer like this also helps the slate to appear brighter, and the colors to seem more vibrant. Unless a sealant is regularly re-applied, however, the colors will tend to fade with the effects of time. In fact, tiles can even be treated with sealants yearly to provide added protection against high traffic and stains.

Slate is easily cleaned, and normally can be thoroughly cleaned with a combination of soap and water. Other soaps with stripping agents are also available at local dealers that are designed to remove deep dirt stains.

http://bluepearl.com.cn
http://bluepearl.net.cn
http://nerobelfast.com

Practical features
Slate is typically used for the construction of floors as well as counter tops. It can, however, be used for almost any home project, including back splashes or fireplace surrounds. In fact, this material is also used in a group of home decorating projects that were engineered and created by PebbleArt. It is frequently used in bathroom renovations because of its resistance to slipping and ability to conceal dirt.

These same features cause slate to be a popular material for kitchen construction as well.

Slate tiles are available in hundreds of colors. Individual colors may vary significantly from lot to lot. Carefully check the boxes when you buy them. In addition, buy one or two additional boxes, in the event that a tile breaks later. The same color, purchased later, may often be a shade or two different from the tiles in the boxes you have purchased.

Frequently, both restaurant and hotel buildings frequently are constructed with slate floors. These help to prevent falls, which can result in expensive legal proceedings.

Slate is frequently used as well for roofing materials.

Locating Slate Deposits
A significant quantity of slate can be found in certain American states, including Vermont. Frequently, however, unusual colors are quarried in places like Turkey, many South American countries, India, Turkey, or Pakistan.

Typically, boulders containing slate are mined from a stone quarry, and then sent to distributing companies in freight containers. Often, such containers hold up to millions of dollars in slate tiles. These tiles are then held at warehouses until they are purchased by architects or designers for use in home or commercial building projects.

Kitchen Counter Tops

Whether remodeling or designing your kitchen for you new home, one of the most important considerations to make is about your kitchen counter tops. These surfaces will be the most visible areas of your kitchen and the most used as well. Choice of material will play an important part in both the appearance and ease of cleaning of your kitchen counter tops. Some of the materials available are ceramic tiles, stainless steel, stone, stone composites and man-made materials.

Ceramic tiles can make a beautiful surface for your kitchen counter tops. The variety available is only limited by your imagination and pocketbook. There are artists available that will design your tiles to suit your décor needs. This may be the easiest way to design a décor suitable to your hopes for your new or remodeled kitchen. The biggest drawback is the extra effort required to keep a tile counter surface hygienic for your food preparation. A sealant coat should be applied to the grout used to hold the tiles in place and extra attention will be needed to keep that area of your kitchen counter tops clean and bacteria free.
http://bahamablue.cn
http://VerdeUbatuba.net
http://VerdeUbatuba.com

Stainless steel kitchen counter tops will bring the appearance of modern technology to your kitchen. Easy to clean surfaces of bright shining metal make for a space age appearance that will suit almost any kitchen décor. This tough material will take the abuse that an active kitchen can endure from the use of harsh cleaning chemicals and everyday food preparation. Stainless steel will resist scratching and dents from normal use and does not chip. If a sleek modern look is what you want to achieve in your kitchen décor, this material should be on the top of your list for consideration.

http://VerdeUbatuba.cn
http://carmenred.net
http://carmenred.com

Another metal not often considered for kitchen counter tops is pure copper. This softer metal, when in its pure state has a "lining finish" and is extremely hygienic. Tests have shown that pure copper will kill many bacteria that live in kitchen environments. The soft brown finish that copper achieves over time will give a mellow appearance to your kitchen décor. The softness of the metal will scratch more readily than other materials, but the "living finish" will repair the appearance of your kitchen counter tops very quickly. Just buff or sand the metal smooth again and in a few weeks, the warm brown color will reappear.

There are a variety of stones used for kitchen counter tops. The most popular are marble, granite, travertine and slate. These stones come in a variety of colors with travertine having the most variety. The drawback of travertine is the natural pits and grooves this stone has. Filler is needed to give the smooth surface desired in kitchen counter tops. Marble is smooth and comes in several shades, but the porous nature of this stone requires a sealant to resist stains and liquids. Granite also needs to be sealed against liquids and has limited shades available. Natural slate is highly water and stain resistant and very easy to keep clean and hygienic. Slate resists scratches well due to its very dense nature as well. These properties make this material highly sought after for laboratory counter tops.
http://carmenred.cn
http://balticbrown.net
http://balticbrown.com.cn

Stone composites have all the natural toughness of stone, are already sealed against moisture and come in a variety of shades that extend all through the composite. These are readily available in both granite composite and quartz composite materials. Granite composite is a bit tougher than quartz composite due to the higher density of stone in the composite material. Quartz composite comes in more shades than granite and the colors extend throughout the material. Both of these composites will give you strong long-lasting kitchen counter tops that can fit into your kitchen décor easily. There are aggregate composites available that use natural material mixed with durable resin filler that is almost as tough as the fore-mentioned stone composites. This aggregate composite can be found in more shades than other stone composites, giving you flexibility in your choices for décor.

Man-made materials will offer you the most choices for your kitchen décor. From the older Formica kitchen counter tops to the solid surface choices available today, the variety of patterns and colors available from man-made materials gives you more leeway in designing your kitchen décor than other materials. Solid surface is a solid one-piece kitchen counter top that has the basins for your kitchen sink included in the counter top. This makes for easier cleaning of the surface and has a space age appearance as well. The color of this style of surface extends all the way through the material and is easy to take care for. It is available in a veneer like Formica to save on expenses and maintain the beauty of these materials. Man-made materials should be given consideration for your kitchen counter tops in your new or remodeled kitchen.

http://balticbrown.cn
http://tropicalbrown.cn
http://tropicalbrown.com.cn

This should give you some more ideas of how you want to design your new or remodeled kitchen. There are a wide variety of materials available for your kitchen counter tops to be made from. All of these materials have their advantages and disadvantages, but the possibilities presented here will help you to make your choices for your new or remodeled kitchen. Your choice need only be limited by your budget. You can allow your imagination to soar when picking out your new kitchen counter tops.

Marble Floor Tiles As The Decorative Choice For Bathrooms

One of the natural stone materials that is best for homes, is marble. Marble is famous for standing out as an elegant decorative element and flooring solution that cannot easily be matched aesthetically by others.

This natural stone has been sought after for centuries, by architects, builders, artists and artisans, is deeply rooted in the annals of architecture, art, and in the development of modern civilizations. Marble was used to create lasting and famous monumental landmarks, and stands as a material with built-in reputations of artistry, durability and uniqueness, for use with any exterior or interior application.

http://multicolorRed.com
http://multicolorred.cn
http://multicolorred.com.cn

Marble Is Well-Suited For Bathrooms

Seeing marble tiles on the bathroom floor is quite common these days, and is seen as a necessity if your goal is to create an elegant bath. These tiles are available either honed or polished.

Honed tiles are designed to provide more traction, while polished tiles provide a more elegant look, although they can be very slippery when wet, so bath mats need to be installed at critical points in a bathroom. Most modern-day home interior experts and decorators know the key to a truly tasteful bathroom is to utilize marble around the walls and the tub. Roman and Jacuzzi tubs look truly more elegant when wrapped in this type of stone.

This stone material is also popular on shower walls and in steam showers; however again, traction is an aspect that must be taken into full consideration. Marble mosaic tiles are often utilized in shower floors, and the grout lines are there to help provide the adequate footing to prevent slipping. Hand-carved marble trim pieces are available for use as frame bath mirrors, and a lot of marble accent designs will help to create your ultimate dream bathroom.

http://indiangreen.net
http://indiangreen.cn
http://maplered.org

Marble Is a Versatile Material

Marble floor tiles are historically famous for their versatility. This type of natural stone is ideal for structures, and sculptures, and it can be easily used as wall tiles. The sculptures made up of marble look extremely beautiful. When you plan to use marble flooring and wall tiles for your interiors, particularly for your bathrooms, you need to consider asking for professional advice. You also need to take some effort in maintaining the beauty and shine of this natural stone.

Taking good care of this material will help in keeping it shiny and elegant for years. You should never ever leave spills for a longer period of time. You require cleaning it right away in order to prevent it from staining. If you want to enhance the artistic value to your home, you need to use these tiles. The elegance and durability provided by these materials help for as worthy application.

http://whitegalaxy.net
http://whitegalaxy.net
http://whitegalaxy.com.cn

However, you can enjoy the elegance only if you take some time out to care for this stone. Marble tiles for the bathroom can be created to provide a unique shine to this part of the house. This enhances the overall appearance of a particular room where it is installed. If you make extra effort towards installing this stone in the proper manner, you need to pay only little attention to maintaining the beauty of this stone.

To find a natural stone dealer in your area, check out the local yellow pages under Marble -- Natural stone, or you could also see Marble -- Cultured. You should see the stone descriptions first, because different manufacturers and dealers use many terms for essentially the same stone. Even if the marble comes from the same quarry or source or dealer, the colors and markings may vary.
http://tropicalgreen.com.cn
http://tropicalgreen.cn
http://saphirebrown.com
http://saphirebrown.cn
http://saphirebrown.com.cn

Marble Fireplace Mantels

When people discuss marble for home renovations 95 percent of the time they are talking about countertops and floors for kitchens and bathrooms.

http://emeraldpearl.net
http://emeraldpearl.com.cn
http://emeraldpearl.cn

Marble is a natural stone product that has been used in construction projects throughout the ages. The Greeks and Romans used marble as a decoration, flooring, support columns and statues in many of the structures that still stand today. Marble provides the elegance of time and an overall sense of class. Marble is now being quarried all over the world, bringing the benefit of an unbelievable diverse range of colors and patterns, plus very competitive pricing. As with any natural stone product, no two pieces are the same, the fault lines and fossils that have engrained themselves into the stone over the centuries creates an everlasting beauty that cannot be matched by any man made reproduction.

http://bluepearl.com.cn
http://bluepearl.net.cn
http://nerobelfast.com

Besides the most common use of kitchen and bathroom countertops and flooring, marble makes an excellent choice as a fireplace surround and mantel. In years past, the only way to purchase a marble mantel was to have it custom crafted and that usually took it out of many peoples home remodel budgets. Recently however, an industry producing a line of standard marble fireplace mantels has been created. These manufacturers are situated all over the world from the UK to China, the US and many of the South American countries. The products are being found in high end home remodeling centers and are relatively easy to install. Most home handymen are quite capable of performing the installation.

http://volgablue.com
http://volgablue.cn
http://imperialbrown.com

Marble does need some tender loving care in order to maintain its aesthetic richness. Most natural stone and this includes marble is porous and needs to be sealed, preferably with a penetrating sealer ever 12 months. A penetrating sealer will prevent dirt and grime from entering the microscopic cavities within the stone.

For those who can afford to remodel with a larger budget you can still have custom crafted fireplace mantels made from marble, most are now hollow, reducing an old problem of using marble, that being weight.

http://imperialbrown.cn
http://venezianogold.cn
http://venezianogold.com

If you want to create a highlight or focal point in a room, a marble fireplace mantel will certainly do just that. Don't forget to add the marble floor and table lamps to your showpiece!

Stone Sinks

A lot of homeowners now prefer stone sinks than those made of other materials. Like its aluminum counterpart, stone sinks also meet their needs because of their appearance and functionality. There are many types of stone sinks and the most popular of them are those made of composite stones, solid surface materials, soapstone, marble and fireclay.

http://g617.com.cn
http://g612.com.cn
http://g683.cn

If you are considering stone sinks for your kitchen or bathroom, this article is just right for you. Presented below are the different types of stone sinks and their characteristics:

1. Stone sinks from solid surface materials. These sinks have a warm and soft feel since they were engineered without the seams. Kitchen dirt and stains do not easily seep through these materials so it can be very easy to maintain.

http://g439.com.cn
http://g683.com.cn
http://g681.com.cn

2. Stone sinks from composite stones. These are stones made of either quartz, granite or slate. They are supposed to have a matte finish and should not scratch easily. You can verify if the stone sink you are interested in is really made of such materials by scratching it with a paper clip. These sinks should be resistant to scratches like these.

3. Stone sinks from fireclay. Sinks made from fireclay are the most durable of all stone sinks and buyers should expect them to last 20 to 30 years. They can also be quite costly, as they are made of quartz and feldspar, both of which can be expensive.

http://g663.com.cn
http://blackgalaxy.org
http://blackgalaxy.com.cn

4. Stone sinks from soapstone. Most homeowners prefer stone sinks that are made from soapstone as they are the most aesthetically beautiful. They have silky, smooth finish, and are extremely dense so that they can repel stain fairly well. They are also the most expensive, as the materials that are used are mined only in the United States. Soapstone sinks are very durable, stain-resistant and looks very elegant.

5. Stone sinks made of marble. Marble has a very elegant finish and can give an elegant feel to your kitchen. The main drawback, however is that it is relatively porous. Sealing definitely will help to keep it from absorbing liquids, but acidic fluids such as juice, soft drinks, household cleaners, and so on, can cause dull, etched spots. Thus, sinks made of marble should be used with care and proper regular maintenance.

http://imperialred.net
http://imperialred.com.cn
http://imperialred.cn

Once you have carefully decided which type of stone sink will best fit your kitchen design, your needs and your budget, the next step is to install it. There are also various available kinds of kitchen sink installations to choose from, the most common of which are undermount kitchen sinks. Undermount kitchen sinks are most difficult to complete however, since they require eliminating the sinks' upper ring so that food, grime and other kitchen dirt can be easily wiped off into the sink. Whatever installation you choose for your stone sink, make sure that they complement each other in terms of style and functionality.

http://tanbrown.org
http://tanbrown.com.cn
http://RawSilk.net.cn

Choosing a good sink is a very important step in coming up with a very functional kitchen. The kitchen sink, along with the main cooking area and the refrigerator, are considered as the three focal point of a kitchen. Thus, getting the most appropriate sink will either add to your kitchen's beauty or destroy it.

How to Properly Clean Granite Tiles

One benefit of granite tiles in terms of care and maintenance is that it's almost carefree. Requiring little more than a wipe down with a wet cloth or sponge and maybe the use of some dish soap to keep them clean. It is recommended you apply a fresh sealant annually or bi-annually as protection and prevention against any possible staining.
http://g683.com
http://g681.net
http://g696.net

The procedures are much the same for tiles as it is for large custom cut granite slabs since the material is the same in both cases. Depending upon where your tiles are and what use you put them to they may need more, or less, attention.
http://g688.net
http://g663.com
http://g439.com

The main thing to bear in mind is that all granite surfaces are covered with a sealant and acidic liquids, foods or chemicals will likely damage this. Many household cleaners contain acids, check all cleaning substances for acid content and avoid these when cleaning your stone tiles. Many toiletries and perfumes can also often contain acids as well as toothpaste and hairspray. Different types of foods and drinks are also acidic, for example: coffee, orange juice, wine, tomato products, mustard and vinegar are all things which will damage the sealant.

http://g562.net
http://g657.com.cn
http://g633.com.cn

When cleaning it is necessary to avoid adding more acid to the surface so a neutral pH balanced cleaner is essential; specialized stone cleaners are formulated for this purpose but many other general purpose cleaners are as well. If a liquid is spilled it is best to mop it up first; since wiping it will spread it further across the surface and potentially cause more damage.
http://g562.com.cn
http://g611.com.cn
http://g439.cn

Use an absorbent cloth or sponge to pick up the main liquid then wipe the area with a neutral pH balanced cleaner. Always be careful if the spilled substance contains grains or any possibly abrasive material since wiping this will cause damage to the sealant too. Areas that have greater use and, therefore, have been more frequently wiped and cleaned should have sealant re-applied more frequently, in order that your granite retains its shine and finish.

http://shanxiblack.com.cn
http://g663.cn
http://g614.com.cn

Taking care cleaning granite tiles properly you will ensure their long life and beauty. Granite is a durable, strong and resilient material this along with it's ease of care make it an ideal countertop surface.

Develop a Stone Floor Care Program for Your Cleaning Business

Office buildings have many types of flooring and growing in popularity are stone floors. Stone floors give buildings a classic and upscale image. Popular choices in flooring these days are natural surfaces including marble, slate, granite, and terrazzo. As more and more buildings are installing stone floors there is a growing need for cleaning contractors who have the experience and knowledge to take care of these valued surfaces properly. Learning the tricks of stone floor care can lead to extra income and profit for your cleaning company.

http://balticbrown.cn
http://tropicalbrown.cn
http://tropicalbrown.com.cn

Before expanding into the area of stone floor care make sure that you understand the differences in the types of flooring and how to design a maintenance program to keep stone floors looking their best. It helps to develop a relationship with a distributor that has quality products and can help you with technical support.

The first step in any floor maintenance program is finding out what type of stone you're dealing with. Stone floors are broken down into one of two categories: stone that contains calcium and those that do not contain calcium. It is important to note that acids will attack and etch stone that contains calcium.

If the floor is not coated on the surface, a simple test can determine what type of stone you are dealing with. Place a drop of hydrochloric acid in an inconspicuous area and watch the reaction. If the acid fizzes the stone contains calcium. If there is no reaction, the stone is most likely granite, slate, sandstone or some type of ceramic that has been designed to look like natural stone.

http://labradorantico.com
http://labradorantico.cn
http://emeraldpearl.org

Your second step is to decide what type of results you want with your floor program. Do you want a polished surface, a slip resistant floor or a floor program that is easy to manage? Any stone floor program should also take into account the type of surface - polished, honed or textured. Also, remember that stone is a product of nature and should be admired for its inconsistencies. The imperfections of stone create random patterns, which is what makes natural stone so desirable.

When looking at how you should maintain stone floors, both calcium containing and non-calcium containing stone floors should be maintained in identical ways except when it comes to re-polishing. A marble floor develops wear patterns faster as marble is a softer stone. You can polish marble, limestone and terrazzo effectively with superfine abrasives you mix with potassium oxalate or oxalic acid. These are typical compounds available in various ready to use formulas.

http://emeraldpearl.net
http://emeraldpearl.com.cn
http://emeraldpearl.cn

Granite floors, on the other hand, are acid resistant requiring granite to be polished mechanically using superfine abrasives. The re-polishing of granite is a slow process as compared to re-polishing a marble floor.

At times the floor will have been so neglected it may need restoration. A properly restored stone floor will have no lippage (where one edge of a stone is higher than adjacent edges, giving the stone a ragged appearance), will look better and be easier to clean. The restoration process is best handled by professionals. Improved technology has made the restoration process faster and with restored floor maintenance costs will go down while the overall appearance of the floor will go up.
http://bluepearl.com.cn
http://bluepearl.net.cn
http://nerobelfast.com

Stone itself has a porosity factor (materials can pass through it) and some stones absorb stains faster than other types of stone. A high quality impregnator can help prevent stains from passing through and being absorbed into the stone. Impregnators can be water resistant, or water, grease and oil resistant. The specific impregnator to use will depend on your specific situation.

The most important part of your stone floor care program will be the use of a quality stone soap. A high quality soap will clean and enrich the stone, which will make it more soil and stain resistant. This is not an area to be cutting costs!

http://volgablue.com
http://volgablue.cn
http://imperialbrown.com

Quarterly cleaning is recommended for commercial stone floors. This will not only remove any built in soil, but will also remove stone soap build-up. This is an important step as most stone soaps are non-rinse. Because of this dirt can build up in the grout lines, even when you are following a floor maintenance program. An intensive cleaning should also be used if you have an extremely dirty floor.

Other stone surfaces that may need extra care are countertops, vanities and vertical surfaces, such as pillars. A good relationship with a distributor of quality products will help you in deciding which chemicals you'll need to use to clean these surfaces.

http://imperialbrown.cn
http://venezianogold.cn
http://venezianogold.com

If you have buildings with stone floors, your first step is to develop a quality stone floor care program. Spending a little time and effort before beginning your stone floor program will save you headaches and keeps the floor looking its best.
Basic Marble Information

Etymology

The word Marble is derived from the Greek word Marmaros which means "shining stone" This is probably a reference to the translucent property of pure white marble which seams to make it glow when light is shone upon it.

http://GialloFiorito.com
http://GialloFiorito.cn
http://GialloFiorito.com.cn

Formation

Marble is a type of metamorphic rock.

Marble starts off as either a Limestone or Dolostone, with a lot of the mineral Calcite in it. When this is exposed to the right amount of heat and pressure, the material changes into marble.

This heat or pressure causes a process known as recrystallization. That is where the tiny individual grains that make up the original stone are changed, in this case into larger grains.

The result is that the original stone is transformed, into marble.

http://JuparanaClassico.com
http://JuparanaClassico.cn
http://GialloCecilia.com
http://GialloCecilia.cn

Art

Marble has a long tradition of being used in sculpture. This is because of several reasons.

Marble is a relatively soft natural stone, making it easy to carve.

Marble formed from pure calcite can sometimes be translucent, and light can penetrate the stone slightly. This makes sculptures seam to glow when illumination is shone on them.

Unlike some stones, whose minerals form in layers, marble's inherent grains don't
