Kitchen cabinet materials can be broken down into three basic types of components: the actual cabinet material, the hardware, and the countertop. How these three elements are combined, along with the cabinet size and linear footage, establish how much a homeowner will pay for his or her cabinets.
Cabinet Material
Modest budget kitchen cabinets will have a lot of particle board in them. Particle board (referred to as chipboard in the United Kingdom) is covered with a thin wood veneer in exposed areas to give it the appearance of real wood. When used in the kitchen it should be well sealed because it is like a sponge – it will soak up any available moisture and swell up.
http://goldendiamond.net http://perlinobianco.net http://rojoalicante.net
http://gialloornamental.net http://lightemprador.net http://biancocarrara.net
Particle board is composed of chips of wood combined with a resin bonding agent. The mixture is pressed into sheets and then cut into the desired dimensions. The fact that the chips can be discards from other processes or from wood not of high enough quality accounts for its low price. The trade off for its low price is moisture susceptibility as mentioned above, and the fact that it doesn't hold screws well.
One step up in quality and price is plywood. Plywood is very strong due to the fact that the grain of the layers alternate direction. It is generally covered with a veneer also. Plywood is much better than particle board at holding screws and has a much higher resistance to moisture.
Solid wood is highly desirable for kitchen cabinets. It is more expensive than plywood, of course, but doesn't need to be covered with a veneer. The wood species vary from low end such as pine to very high end such as oak, mohagany, walnut, and pecan.
Cabinet Hardware
Kitchen cabinet hardware is available in a mind-boggling number of choices and price ranges. Styles range from contemporary to antique. Drawer pulls, hinges (when visible), and items such as towel hangers are usually matched.
http://stoneindia.us http://stoneitaly.us http://stonebrazil.net
http://stoneitaly.net http://granitebrazil.com http://stonecolor.cn
The material they are made from varies. Brass is always a popular choice. Other materials include steel, aluminum, and even glass. Many drawer pulls are ceramic, either plain or with graphics on them.
Many of these fall into the antique-looking category. An inexpensive and yet time-tested finish for hardware is a matte or hammered finish. This gives the cabinets an antique or rustic look, especially when combined with knotty pine.
Cabinet Tops
Cabinet tops have a huge impact on the cost of the cabinets. But the material can be expensive and cabinet tops have the highest visual impact of any of the three cabinet components, so it makes sense.
On the high end of the price range are the solid stones such as granite and marble. These are very trendy today but both the material and installation are expensive.
Corian, a Dupont product, is a great alternative to solid stone. It looks like stone, but is in fact a plastic material. Its benefits in the kitchen are the fact that it is non-porous, it's easy to clean, and best of all, it's heat resistant. It is less expensive than stone but still adds to the home's value.

Laminates, such as Formica, are the standard for counter tops. It is relatively inexpensive, easy to work with, and easy to maintain. Most prefab kitchen cabinets (contractor grade) come with laminate counter tops. The laminate is simply glued to the plywood base and is a great project for the DIY'er to tackle.

Kitchen design software programs are not exactly a new idea. They are, however, becoming common enough to be in the financial reach of the average person, not just professional architects. When might you want to use this design software?
If you are brain storming conception ideas for a new home you are planning to build, this is a great way to work with your architectural firm to demonstrate your wants and needs. In fact, this idea lends itself to remodel projects as well.
http://bahamablue.com.cn http://marduragold.com.cn http://kashmirgold.net
http://balticbrown.net http://carmenred.net http://verdeubatuba.net
The problems with trying to convey your ideas verbally, or with rough, hand drawn sketches, is that these methods are very ambiguous and subject to interpretation. Kitchen design software takes the guesswork out and streamlines the process!
Marketers Have Caught On to the Trend
For quite some time now, home improvement stores such as Home Depot and Lowe's have been using software programs to show homeowners "what if" scenarios using kitchen appliances, cabinets, and decorations that they sell.
Now, retailers such as IKEA are providing free downloadable software programs so that the homeowner can design their new kitchen look in the comfort of their own home. Then all they have to do is take the resulting file to the store. This is marketing psychology at its finest.
Kitchen Design Software Features
Most kitchen design software center their logic around modules and layouts. The planner can choose to begin with a particular theme in many cases such as modern, vintage, or country. Some software programs allow the user to enter the dimensions of the kitchen as a starting point.
http://whitegalaxy.net http://imperialred.net http://indiangreen.net
http://kashmirwhite.net http://emeraldpearl.net http://emeraldpearl.org
The software takes these dimensions and creates a three dimensional model. Now the user can try out different ideas – moving cabinets around, positioning appliances, and even locating lighting fixtures. Different color schemes can be tried out on the fly. Does one particular thing work with another? No more trying to imagine it mentally. That approach was always a compromise anyway.
The better third party software will allow you to conceptualize using the inventory of different manufacturers. Some will also keep you with in budget; or at least it will keep you in the ballpark. It does this by keeping a running total on all the products that you have "placed" in your virtual kitchen space.
The Cost and Benefits of Using Kitchen Design Software
Many software applications are free, as mentioned above. These are designed to steer consumers to a particular store or brand name. But independent software programs can be had for less than one hundred dollars up to many hundreds of dollars. Usually the price hinges on the application's level of sophistication.
http://tanbrown.org http://maplered.org http://blackgalaxy.org
http://shanxiblack.org http://goldenking.org http://giallofarfalla.com
Do you want photo quality images? Do you want three dimensional graphics rendering? Do you want the budget tracking feature? These and many other questions will guide your decision on which software program you choose. One of the best benefits is intangible.
Imagine having the luxury of trying out different scenarios in the comfort of your own home and at your leisure without the distraction of a salesman or an "expert". While it is true that an architect will have your interests in mind, he also comes with the baggage of preconceived ideas of what works and what doesn't. Now you can take charge of your design.

To choose a countertop surfaces materials involves consideration of style, maintenance requirements and budget.
Key factors to consider in selecting countertop surface material include the style of the kitchen, required maintenance, and budget. Natural stone surfaces used as countertops include granite, marble, slate, limestone and sandstone. Of these surfaces, the most commonly used is granite. Granite is heavy, durable and expensive. Granite is highly scratch resistant, and is usually resistant to etching caused by acidic substances. Hot pans can be placed upon granite countertops without fear of burning the surface. However, granite can be porous and consequently stain easily. Granite will need to be treated with a penetrating sealer upon installation to guard against stains, and will require at least annual reapplications of a sealer. Liquids spilled upon granite countertops must be wiped up quickly to avoid staining. Many stains can be removed from granite or minimized by the application of a poultice. Because the size of slabs of natural stone is limited, granite countertops will usually have seams.
http://g655.com
http://g655.com.cn
http://g635.com.cn
Similar in appearance to granite is marble. Marble requires more maintenance than granite, as marble scratches easily and reacts to acids. To some extent, marble may be protected by the application of two sealers, one which will minimize stains, and a second surface coating to protected polished surfaces from etching. Another option is to select honed marble. Although honed marble lacks the sheen of polished marble, etching may be corrected using an abrasive.
http://g611.net
http://g612.com
http://g614.com
Other natural stone countertop surfaces such as slate, limestone and sandstone are also prone to etching and staining. While these surfaces may be sealed to minimize staining, they are subject to etching. These latter three surfaces are best used by those who are willing to actively maintain their countertops and to treat them with care. Concrete is also making an appearance in modern kitchens as a countertop surface. Concrete is extremely porous, and must be periodically sealed to minimize staining. Concrete may also crack, and will change color over time.
http://g611.net
http://g612.com
http://g614.com
Wood may be used either for the entire countertop or as an inset work surface. Wood expands and contracts, and may warp if exposed to water. A thin layer of varnish, lacquer or oil must be applied periodically to protect the surface. If the surface is to be used for cutting or chopping in food preparation, mineral oil should be used instead of varnish or lacquer. Wood countertops must be cleaned thoroughly with antibacterial soap after being used for uncooked food preparation to alleviate concerns about bacterial growth. Burning or staining of the wood can be sanded away.
http://g654.org
http://g657.com
http://g687.org
Stainless steel is being used in contemporary kitchens with increasing frequency. Stainless steel can be exposed to high temperatures without scorching, and is also impervious to water. However, a stainless steel countertop may be noisy to work on. Such surfaces also show smudges, and depending upon the grade of material, may be subject to scrapes, stains and corrosion.
http://g684.org
http://g666.org
http://g664.org
Manmade solid surface countertops are increasingly being made to look like natural stone. No special maintenance is required, other than regular wiping down of the surface. Many of these solid surfacing materials can be easily repaired if they are cut, burned or otherwise damaged. Unlike granite, these surfaces are non-porous and consequently do not stain. However, as these surfaces do burn and may be scratched, they require the use of trivets, hot pads or cutting boards to protect the surface. Manmade solid surface countertops typically come in a wider variety of colors than natural stone countertops. The seams of solid surface countertops are generally not visible. Such countertops also are typically less expensive than natural stone, although in some regions the difference in cost may be minimal.
http://china-cabinet.org
http://china-cabinet.biz
http://chinacabinet.biz
Perhaps the least expensive countertop surface is plastic laminate. This surface is made of several layers of melamine, paper and plastic resin bonded under heat and pressure, and glued to particleboard or plywood. In addition to being relatively low cost, laminate countertops are available in a wide variety of colors and designs. No maintenance is required other than normal cleaning after use. Laminate resists stains and mild abrasions well. However, these countertops may be cut and burned if not properly protected. Unlike solid surface countertops, damage to laminate countertops cannot easily be repaired.
http://stonecolor.com.cn
http://g603.net
http://g623.net
Ceramic tile may also be used as a countertop surface. Ceramic tile is available in various colors, sizes and patterns, allowing for creativity in the design of the surface. It is both heat and stain resistant. Although the tile itself may be resistant to staining, the surrounding grout is often easily stained. The grout must be sealed, and precautions taken to keep the grout clean. Periodic re-grouting may be necessary. Ceramic tiles may crack if a hard object is dropped upon it. Individual tiles can be replaced if damaged.

There are many reasons why people are choosing granite countertops. Many of the reasons include the benefits, installation issues, and cost. You have made an excellent decision to use granite for your counters. The best decision with the installation of granite counters is to use a licensed contractor for the job.
http://blackgalaxy.com.cn
http://kashmirwhite.com.cn
http://bluepearl.com.cn
Cost of Materials For Granite Countertops
Granite can vary in cost. It may depend on the type of granite that you choose and the type of finish you select. However, installing granite requires more than just the granite slab or tiles. There are many other materials that you need to purchase for the installation of your new countertops like a 25 lb. of thin set mortar ($10), a 5 lb. bag of unsanded grout ($5), a quart of polished sealer (25), a roll of fiberglass mesh tape ($5), a trowel ($5), a putty knife($5), a honing stone($7), a grout float ($5), caulk that matches the color if you are using tiles ($5), and plastic spacers ($5). All of these materials will be needed for installing granite countertops and you should consider the costs when you are budgeting for your new counter. You also might need a tile saw. You can purchase one for around $275 or you can rent a saw from many places for around $45 for each day. The cutting should be able to be done in one day. You also need to estimate the lumber materials that you will need to purchase also. The materials that you will need include a full sheet of ¾ inch plywood. Every 8ft. of countertop that you have you will need one sheet. You will need a sheet of Denshield to back the tile for every 5 ft. of counter that you have. Roofing nails and screws will be needed for securing purposes.
http://bahamablue.com.cn
http://marduragold.com.cn
http://kashmirgold.net
The cost of granite differs by the type of granite that you decide on. If you would like a solid surface granite countertop then you will pay around $125 per square foot. If you are thinking about tiles on your counter then the costs will run around $60 per square foot. Tiles can be very cheap or they can be expensive. It depends on the type and texture of the granite. The finish you would like for your counter will make a big difference also and will increase the price. Many people prefer the faux finish which can cost you approximately $80.

Installation Costs For Granite Countertops
There are many things that you need to think about when you hire a contractor to professionally install your granite countertops. Hiring the wrong person could be disastrous and cost you more money in the long run. You should find out how long the contractor has been in business so you can be sure that they have been in business for a while. This will also verify that they are well-established. You should also verify if they have any complaints against them through consumer protection officials. You want to verify how many projects the contractor has completed and ask to see a portfolio of the work they have done. Some contractors take pictures of their finished work and this will give you a good idea of what you have to look forward to when it is finished.
http://whitegalaxy.net
http://imperialred.net
http://indiangreen.net
You should also ask for a list of references and you should verify all of them. Don't just take their word for it. Call everyone. If the contractor is going to be using other sub-contractors to help them with the project, you should meet them and make sure that you feel comfortable with them in your home. Verify that everyone who will be working in your home is licensed and that they are all covered by insurance. You can protect yourself by asking to see a lien waiver to verify that the contractor doesn't owe anyone any money. A contractor should have personal liability insurance that will cover damage to property and anything else that could happen.
http://kashmirwhite.net
http://emeraldpearl.net
http://emeraldpearl.org
When you pay the contractor for the work completed, verify that you are satisfied with the work done before you make a final payment. You should limit the down payment to as little as possible and if you are asked to be paid in full then you should go with someone else. You can work with the contractor and set milestones for payment. This means, as the contractor completes defined amounts of work, and then you pay them. You should also always avoid paying cash at all costs. You should also have a contract that clearly spells out all of the work that will be done for the countertops. Be sure that warranties are defined for the materials and the work done. Also be sure the contractor cleans their mess of excess materials and things before they leave.
http://tanbrown.org
http://maplered.org
http://blackgalaxy.org
When you hire a contractor to install granite countertops in your home, the price may vary by how experienced the contractor is and how large the counters are. The price can range from $700 to $1500 and higher. If you decide to install granite countertops on your own, then you can be looking at prices from $500 to approximately $700. It is usually not recommended to install granite counters yourself. This is because you should have skill when you are cutting granite and installing a counter. The cost of mistakes with granite might cost you more than what you can afford. It is always better to hire a professional contractor to install granite in your kitchen.

Installing granite tile counter tops, specifically in the kitchen, is not only a practical alternative to solid granite and other natural stone counter top surfaces, it is also a cost effective choice. An over riding benefit of this type of countertop is granite tiles are less expensive, by up to whopping two thirds, than an actual slab of granite. However, you retain the natural beauty, durability and ease of maintenance of granite.
http://verdeubatuba.cn
http://giallofarfalla.cn

Granite is granite and tiles offer the same rich and elegant look to any room as a slab does at a fraction of the cost. Best of all granite tiles can be laid out to look just like a solid piece of granite.

http://kashmirwhite.cn
Granite is one of the hardest natural materials that we have, this quality makes it ideal for kitchens and even bathrooms. It's ability to withstand the high traffic and daily abuse a kitchen endures makes this tile countertop choice a sensible one also. For instance, if you remove a hot pot or pan from the stove and set it on a granite tile countertop it has no effect, granite is impervious to heat. It does not burn the surface like Formica or butcher block. Basically granite tile countertops are almost indestructible.

All natural stone including granite is porous, meaning it can absorb liquids that could stain it. To prevent staining and etching a sealant is applied to it when it is processed. Like granite slabs, granite tile counter tops must be resealed once or twice a year to maintain an effective barrier. This is not a big issue however; the process of resealing is a easy one and is necessary to help your countertop retain its unmarred beauty for many years. It has been suggested that car wax can perform this task, really, however you should check with a professional as to what you should apply.
http://paradiso.net.cn
http://bluepearl.net.cn
http://saphirebrown.com.cn
When cleaning your new granite tile countertops use only products that are made for granite. Regular household cleaners can contain chemicals that are harsh and will strip away the seal which leaves it open to stains. Warm soapy water is suggested but be aware that after a while it can leave a thin film that leaves the countertop with a dull appearance. Also be aware of anything containing acids which will cause the seal to become ineffective like citrus fruits and even cosmetics on the counter.
http://emeraldpearl.com.cn
http://kashmirgold.com.cn
http://tropicalgreen.com.cn
Though you can have it professionally installed if you have ever laid tile you can install a granite tile countertop and save. The steps are basically the same and not too complicated. Just make sure you use the correct adhesive for granite. It is a fairly simple do-it-yourself project if you have any knowledge of laying tiles.

http://imperialred.com.cn
http://whitegalaxy.com.cn
When you are ready to choose the countertops for your kitchen, if you desire lasting beauty, ease of maintenance and durability, granite is a popular counter top choice. But if granite slabs prove a little pricey and do not fit into your kitchen decorating budget consider the installation of granite tile. That's right, get all of the benefits you desire in granite and discover that granite tile countertops offer more than good looks, they offer savings.

Marble, formed from limestone with heat and pressure over years in the earth's crust. These pressure or forces cause the limestone to change in texture and makeup. The process is called recrystallization. Fossilized materials in the limestone, along with its original carbonate minerals, recrystallize and form large, coarse grains of calcite.
http://GoldenKing.org
http://maplered.com
http://shanxiblack.org
Impurities present in the limestone during the recrystallization period affect the mineral composition of the marble which is formed. At relatively low temperatures, silica impurities in the carbonate minerals form masses of chert or crystals of quartz. At higher temperatures, the silica reacts with the carbonates to produce diopside and forsterite. At a very high temperatures, rarer calcium minerals, such as larnite, monticellite, and rankinite, forms in the marble. If water is present, serpentine, talc, and certain other hydrous minerals may be produced. The presence of iron, alumina, and silica may result in the formation of hematite and magnetite.
http://whitegalaxy.cn
http://verdeubatuba.com.cn
http://cafeimperial.org
The minerals that result from impurities give marble a wide variety of colors. The purest calcite marble is white in colour. Marble containing hematite are reddish in color. Marble that has limonite is yellow, and marble with serpentine is green in colour.
Marble does not split easily into sheets of equal size and must be mined with care. The rock may shatter if explosives are used. Blocks of marble are mined with channeling machines, which cut grooves and holes in the rock. Miners outline a block of marble with rows of grooves and holes. They then drive wedges into the openings and separate the block from the surrounding rock. The blocks are cut with saws to the desired shape and size.

The material you choose for the flooring in your home will have a great effect on the looks of your home. Ironically, it will also reflect upon your taste and personality. An elegant material such as marble flooring will reflect very favorably upon the homeowner who chooses it. Marble flooring is always in elegant style, everywhere.uy
What exactly is marble? Metamorphic rock is a rock that has metamorphic from limestone or dolostone and has a high concentration of calcium. This metamorphic rock is more commonly known as marble. Marble has been used since antiquity for the beautiful works of art that we still admire today. These sculptures can be viewed in museums around the world, including Turkey, Spain and Italy. The Romans and Greeks extensively used marble both for their artistic and architectural creations along with mosaic tiles and mosaic tables.

Today's marble comes from the same regions that used it over the years, such as Italy and Spain, but it is also now being imported from China. Italy remains one of the biggest exporters of marble and they have developed an industry based on their vast experience in quality, design and execution.
Anyone who sees a marble floor will automatically think of a luxurious mansion where the expression of lavish beauty is paramount. To get the full benefit of a marble floor, it should not be covered by rugs or any other covering.
Marble should be allowed to let its own beauty stand out. This is the reason you will see marble used in warm climates where rugs are not necessary, or in areas where you would not normally put a rug, such as the entrance, a bath or a kitchen.s

Unexpectedly, marble can stain easily, and it therefore has to be cared for properly. Most of the time, it will have to be cleaned on a daily basis with a specialized product that will allow it to shine while removing any stains. For a stunning effect, there are specialized marble cleaning machines that make the floor positively glow. These machines can be rented, or a professional can be hired to clean the marble periodically.

If you are going to make the large investment in a marble floor, make sure you do all of your research so that you buy the best marble for the price. In addition to the cost of the marble, you will have a large shipping bill because of the weight of marble.stonebuy
Despite its cost, marble flooring is one of the most beautiful materials you can use in your home, and if you want to make a dramatic statement in your decorating, one that cannot be beat.

Properly Installing Marble Flooring In The Bathroom
- For starters, start the process with a bare floor. Ensure that the subfloor is sturdy and stable, because if it shifts, the grout could crack. Check the floor for stability by having someone stand on one end of the room, while you stand on the other and bounce up and down. If your partner feels little or no vibration, then the floor should be quite sturdy.
- Ensure that the floor is level. Most tile manufacturers suggest that the floor slope no more than 1/16 for every 3. Use the longest level available to check. You can also tell whether the floor has any dips or valleys by looking for gaps between the level and the floor.

http://marduragold.com.cn
http://marduragold.cn
- Lay out the tile in a test run, or dry run. This will ensure that you plan ahead for where the tiles will go. Start by placing a tile at one corner of the center point and working your way to the wall. If you end up with only a sliver of marble at the end, shift the run so that the starting tile straddles the chalk line.stone-buy
- To begin tiling the bathroom floor, place one tile on or near the center, depending on the location that was determined by your test layout, and trace around the perimeter. Apply thin-set mortar within the borders, and set the tile in place. The tile will act as a reference point, or barometer of sorts, when you start to lay out the rest of the floor pieces.
- Start to apply thin-set mortar to the floor, notching it with your trowel, and applying the tiles. Fill any spaces when applying the mortar.

- In measuring tiles for cutting, place one tile directly on top of the full tile that is closest to the wall. Then place a second tile against the wall so that the edge rests on the first tile. Use a utility knife to score a line on the first tile, and make your cut along that line
Installing these natural stone varieties can be quite costly. The tiles themselves already cost significantly, and without utilizing the proper installation techniques, there would be a chance that something wrong could happen during the process. It would be much safer that you know the right tools, methods, prepare the adequate materials and safety measures as well, when installing these floor tiles for your bathroom

The choices can be confusing_there's so much available in kitchen counters. From natural stone like granite and marble to synthetics such as Formica, Ceramic tiles, Corian - even environmentally damaging products like wood. So what should you choose, and why?
Ideally, most people (naturally) want to coordinate their kitchen counter top to the decor and color theme in their kitchen. In addition to that, they're probably looking at aesthetic appeal and cost. And would normally like to get a durable surface with suitable edges, that is easy to use and clean, has a smooth surface, is heat resistant, water resistant, chemical resistant, won't scratch, stain, chip or crack, and last, but not least, is easily repaired . Taking each option available on the market today, we can take a look to see if it meets the criteria vital to the ideal counter top for your kitchen. http://g663.com.cn

Formica A thin layer of plastic joined to a particleboard or wood_that's what forms a laminate like Formica. It comes in attractive colors and designs, simulating materials like granite, is relatively inexpensive and fairly durable with edging options. Easy to clean, and smooth in surface it is also stain resistant.
It meets seven of the fifteen criteria identified, but is that good enough? Few people find Formica aesthetically pleasing. Moreover, hot objects placed on it melt the surface, and wetting and flooding damage its surface beyond repair. Cleaning materials you use in the kitchen damage Formica, making it dull and scratched. Knives scratch the surface. Remember, you cannot repair it. Additionally, Formica warps and fades with prolonged use. http://imperialred.net

Ceramic Tiles Ceramic tiles, joined by grouting tiles together come in an array of designs and colors. Some homeowners find them attractive, and they are durable, stain, water and heat resistant and practically scratch proof. Repairable, with a little difficulty, they're attractively priced, though more expensive than laminates,
They need frequent cleaning, though, because grouting easily gathers dirt, a situation not desirable in a kitchen. Cleaning grouting frequently is not only time-consuming, but can be very tiresome. Additionally, ceramic tiles are prone to chipping and cracking. http://tanbrown.org

Ceramic tile counters fare well on most counts, but its major drawback_that of maintenance? Cmakes it an impractical solution for kitchen use.
Corian Corian is made using acrylic and or polyester plastic. It comes in many colors and designs, including granite look-alikes, and is available in a matte or glossy finish. It is water resistant, does not usually stain and is easy to clean. Unaffected by chemical use in cleaning agents, it is repairable.
However, Corian is not heat resistant. Placing hot pans on it damages the surface beyond repair. It is expensive, and scratches easily, though the scratches can be removed through repair. Additionally, being manmade, Corian is not eco-friendly. But most of all, Corian is not aesthetically appealing to the discerning consumer. Corian is essentially synthetic, and its finish cannot match the timbre and antiquity of natural stone. Its not that its cost effective, either. http://multicolorRed.com

Corian meets some of the criteria of a good counter top, but its lack of resistance to heat and scratching, and its synthetic finish do not offer value for money to a cost conscious consumer.
Wood Wood counter tops, made using strips of thick wood joined together, are durable with care, attractive and functional, especially if you chop a lot. They are easy to clean as well and you can remove scratches by sandpapering.
However, wood counters do not offer much scope in color or design and need a lot of care. Compared to other counters, they do not last as long. They are neither heat nor water resistant and scratch easily. Additionally, their edges warp over time and need treatment. Wood is not environmentally friendly either. http://indiangreen.net

It is expensive, too. The question facing consumers is, is it worth the extra care with all its drawbacks at this cost?
Granite A natural stone of immense beauty, granite is available in many colors and finishing styles, from polished to matte and textured. It is strong, very durable, easy to use and clean and does not attract dirt. Heat, water and chemical resistant, granite does not stain or scratch. One of the hardest materials in existence, it does not usually chip or crack, but is replaceable in the event of a mishap. http://whitegalaxy.net

Granite is expensive, but offers many benefits in a high usage area like a kitchen. Additionally, its aesthetic appeal is unmatched by any other alternative.
Marble Marble is also aesthetically appealing and hygienic, but can stain and scratch more easily. It is not as hard as granite and therefore not as durable and does not react well with chemical cleaning agents. http://tropicalgreen.com.cn

Considering the facts at hand, granite provides the best option for a kitchen counter top. The cost of granite is an investment, which more than pays off over the decades, in terms of ease, convenience, cleanliness, low maintenance cost, durability and aesthetics.
