business > How To Detect A Fake Marble Tile
Posted: Dec.07.2007 @ 1:02 am

 Marble Tile Background

Marble tiles are considered to be one of the best building materials to be used in homes, even in offices, due to its different qualities and benefits.

Marble tiles have been used for over thousands of years already, wherein they were first cut into slabs and tiles and used for as building materials, dating back as far as the time of ancient Greeks and the Romans. Marble tiles are known for their exquisiteness and resilience, making them very ideal as flooring materials, especially since they are not only functional, but are very aesthetically pleasing as well. Each marble tile vary in color, pattern and design, giving consumers a wonderful array of natural materials which possesses a combination of beauty and toughness, making it the material of choice for construction.

Marble, which is actually a metamorphic rock, is created when limestone is subjected to a considerable amount of heat and pressure within the earth's crust, making it a dense and durable material, at least when compared with granite or ceramic tiles. It gets its unique coloring, textures and veins from the metamorphic change that the limestone undergoes regarding its marble effect and mineral composition. Basically, marble undergoes a re-crystallization process wherein fossil materials and other sundry elements and minerals are heated and pressurized, creating the stone.

Difference Between Fake And Real Marble Tiles

Real marble tiles have the characteristic of being durable, but it is actually not that durable. Its durability will be defined on how you take care of it, making it more of a hassle and a problem to have around. Caring for real marble tiles is more complex than your regular style of cleaning, wherein mopping and sweeping not enough in terms of caring for your marble tiles. Marble tiles are more susceptible to stains from common household products, such as citrus-based drinks, shampoos, nail removers, or anything that is acidic, since these things may chemically react with the marble tile's surface. This means that people who have marble tiles for their flooring, for example, will need to clean up any spill immediately using soap and water, in order to avoid staining their marble tile.

Fake marble tiles, on the other hand, need not require the same amount of care when cleaning it since these fake marble tiles are not made of 100% marble, but contain only a percentage of marble in their composition. Fake marble tiles are actually combined with other elements, such as liquid polyester resin, making it a more durable product as compared to the real marble tiles. This means that the products that would easily stain marble tiles are not that effective with fake marble tiles due to their resin coats, making them more impervious, although they could still stain it if not taken care of.

Also, real marble tiles are more expensive than fake marble tiles for obvious reasons, although there are some people who sell fake marble tiles for the same price range as real ones. The more expensive real marble tiles will have some differences with fake ones, such as the texture, finishes, patterns and design, some of which are more difficult to detect over others, but with careful scrutiny and observation, these differences can be seen.

business > How to Set Granite and Marble Tile
Posted: Dec.07.2007 @ 1:01 am | Lasted edited: Dec.06.2007 @ 7:04 pm

Granite and marble tiles are beautiful additions to any room. Their color and durability have been appreciated for generations. Do you wish to use some of these beautiful ties in your own home? Read this to learn more.

Steps

1Step One

Use "thin set epoxy" to bond granite or marble tiles to wood or stone backing. Only use water to mix the mortar.

2Step Two

Consider applying a slip sheet between the marble or granite tile and the structure to help improve torsional relief, since the tile and the primary structure may expand and contract at different rates. The slip sheet will allow the tiles to move a little on the floor, and can just be laid on top of the sub floor.

3Step Three

Space granite or marble tiles 1/32 inches to 1/16 inches apart using a spacer such as a nail. Fill the spaces with a matching epoxy grout.

4Step Four

Seal the granite and marble tiles with a "high gloss stone penetrant." This not only brings out the color of the stones, but helps to improve them as well.

5Step Five

Prepare the concrete properly before installing granite and marble tile. The concrete should be solid and not be cracked, chipped or dirty. If too smooth, use a bushing hammer to make the surface a little rougher to help the mortar stick more effectively.

business > Brief Introduction Of Artificial Stone
Posted: Dec.05.2007 @ 1:13 am

1.The origin of the artificial stone

What should we do with the waste of granite that is produced by the production ? These waste materials pollute our environment seriously , how to solve this problem?

The scientists had found out the solution of the problem : Reclaim the waste materials which come from producing as raw material ,and then deeply process. The produce of artificial stone is not only solve the environment problem but also save plentiful mineral resource . By calculating that one ton waste material can process 20 square meters artificial stone , produce 2 million square meters artificial stone can solve more than 10 thousand ton waste material .thus turn the waste stone into gold .

2.The distinguish of artificial stone and natural stone

Compared with the natural stone , the artificial stone has the advantages of bright ,high degree of finish , even color , fine pressure and wear resistance ,fine toughness , compact in structure , robustness , light specific gravity , non-water-absorption , bear erosion and  weathering , law chromatism , colorfast , low radioactivity etc.

Compared with the natural stone, the artificial stone has the advantages of using composite resource . If he annual production of one factory is 400,000 square meters , that can remove 30,000-50,000 tone waste material . It has influential effect and also the truly environmental friendly production of building material .

Compared with the natural stone, the price of artificial stone is competitive, elegance and noble . The artificial stone is able to second renew after years. That is the excellent quality and reasonable price for consumer's selection. It is become the priority choice for the decoration material of the modern building .

3.The development trend of artificial stone

Since the durative improvement of the artificial stone technique , the multiaspect multipurpose demand of market faces with the opportunity of development . The products of developing from single traditional products to twin color , multicolor and match color .

Since we present the twin color variety ?C"Fantasy Royal ", the artificial stone immediately appears the trend of supply unable to meet the demand immediately , tand the successful trial product of quartz stone , improve the quality and use of the variety greatly .

Since durative develop of the new craft and technique , the artificial stone will develop towards the ultra thin type and diversification direction . At present , the artificial stone have already come out the quart stone within only 3mm thickness . The ultra thin slab of artificial stone has light weight , the common adhesive can fix it on the wall . It is not only save the cost of transportation , but also save and use effective of the stone resource .

4.The market trend of artificial stone

Due to the advantages of bright , high degree of finish , even color , fine pressure and wear resistance , fine toughness and reasonable price etc. According to the analyst of the expert , compared with the natural stone and artificial stone , a large market share of natural stone will give way to artificial stone in the future years . The success of crystal panel is good evidence . It can estimate that no more than ten years the artificial stone will divide equally world with natural stone and occupy half of the country's stone business.

business > What is the Best Way to Clean Marble Tiles?
Posted: Dec.05.2007 @ 1:10 am

Now that more people are using marble tiles in their kitchens, bathrooms and entryways, the demand for products to clean marble tiles is growing. With proper maintenance and upkeep, it's not difficult to clean marble tiles at all.

To keep your marble sparkling, be sure to keep it free from routine dust and dirt. Clean marble tiles by sweeping the floor often with a soft bristled broom or vacuuming to pick up any loose dirt. If this can't be done every day, settle for two or three times a week.

Be aware that loose dirt can easily be ground in as people walk across the floor. If family and friends have been walking around in dirt or mud, you might ask them to remove their shoes before walking on your marble tiles. Sand, dirt and other debris left on the bottom of the shoe is abrasive. First, it will scratch the marble, and then it will grind the dirt into the scratches.

Many times, all that's needed to clean marble tiles is a warm, damp mop or cloth, especially if there are spill prone kids - and adults - in the house. Fortunately, as the tiles gain in popularity, so do products formulated to clean marble tiles. It's best to have some on hand in case of accidental spillage or for regular weekly or monthly cleanings. Be sure to read the label and follow the instructions exactly.

While vinegar is touted as a great household cleaner, it's not recommended to clean marble tiles. The acid in vinegar can damage the surface. Soaps, even mild detergents, aren't recommended either. If you're not using a special marble cleaner, use warm water only.

It's not always best to let your tiles air dry. Get a nice fluffy towel, and use it to dry the floor thoroughly. It's important to dry up after you clean marble tiles, as they tend to spot and stain if they remain wet.

Every few months, it's a good idea to seal and polish the tiles. The polish will help your floor to shine, while the sealant will protect the floors from everyday dirt and grime and make it easier for you to clean marble tiles on a regular basis. Your local home improvement emporium is sure to have plenty of options for marble tile cleaners, sealants and polishing agents. If you're not sure which product is best, contact the manufacturer or the person who installed your tiles. Either one is sure to have some good recommendations.

business > Do it yourself installation: cutting slate tile
Posted: Dec.03.2007 @ 1:10 am

An enthusiastic do it yourselfer can easily take on the job of laying slate tiles to a new floor, or even the relaying of tiles to an existing floor. The laying of the tiles should be fairly simple, assuming that a solid concrete base or a suspended timber floor will be the site for the new tiles. Slate can also be used in situations where under floor heating is installed.

Pre-cut slate is available and usually isn't all that expensive. If you do not come across a pre-cut style that you like, don't lose hope. With good planning and great care, most anyone can cut slate tile. Slate is a natural stone and has characteristics that allow it to be easily split into parallel pieces, which is excellent when cutting tile.

Slate tile can easily be cut using a masonry blade, either carbide-tipped or abrasive, in a portable circular saw. Or, if you are familiar with them, you can rent a wet saw for about sixty dollars a day, and it will cut right through the hard material very easily. A diamond edged blade in an angle grinder may also be a wise choice to cut through the slate if you do not have access to a wet saw.

When cutting slate tiles, you should not try to use a hacksaw. You will not get the precision you need to lay the tiles together if you cut with one. However, a hacksaw may come in handy for cutting and shaping small areas. A manual score and snap tile cutter isn't ideal for cutting slate, either. You will waste much of your material and time, and find that the slate is simply too hard for this type of equipment.

Of course, you should observe the safety instructions of any type of machinery that you use. Remember, the equipment that is used to cut hard materials such as slate can be very dangerous if not used properly. Also, remember to protect your eyes with protective goggles and your lungs with a protective mask, at the very least. The fine dust that will enter the air while cutting the slate is damaging to your body if you do not take the correct precautions. If in doubt as to the safety measures involved, enlist the help of a professional to help cut your slate tile.

When cutting your slate you will notice some pieces tend to be thicker than others. You will want to take note of this and separate them into three types: thin, medium, and thick. You will want to try to lay all of each thickness type together so that they sit together nicely. You will save time if you separate them as you cut.

Try not to rush the cutting process. Accurately cutting tile can be a timely chore, and frustration and miscalculation may occur if you hurry. If you are tiling a large area, set aside some time over a couple of days to get the job done right. You'll be much more satisfied with the end result if you take your time.

Once the tile has been cut to your specifications, be sure to carefully clean the surface of each tile. Any remaining dust or residue on the tile may prohibit the flooring adhesive from working correctly.

Enjoy laying your slate tile! You'll find that after you've done it once, you'll be looking for opportunities to install slate all around your home!

business > Granite Countertops -The Reasons For Their Popularity
Posted: Dec.03.2007 @ 1:08 am

Whenever there is a house being built, or a kitchen or bath is being remodeled, chances are there is going to be some talk about granite countertops. Granite countertops are a very popular choice among interior designers, architects, and homeowners alike. This is because granite possesses several sought-after characteristics that are essential for building the ultimate countertop.

Granite is a coarse-grained igneous rock made of feldspar, mica, and more than 20 percent quartz. This excellent combination of minerals makes for its tough and durable quality. Granite countertops are very hard and durable. In fact, they cannot be scratched by anything, except by some other piece of granite, or of course, diamond, which is the hardest mineral on earth.

Countertops made from other materials are very susceptible to the elements, and even slight temperature changes can cause them to crack and split. But the mica component of granite countertops makes them very resistant to temperature. It doesn't matter if you put down a container of ice cream on your granite countertops, or a pot of steaming soup - the granite countertops will endure the temperature admirably, and not a single crack will appear on the surface.

These characteristics of granite countertops alone are enough to convince a homeowner to replace their own wooden or tile countertops with granite. But you would be delighted to know that there is more to granite than just their functionality. As a bonus, granite countertops look good as well!

Their appearance is also one of the main reasons why they are so popular, especially in hotels and other luxurious building. Granite countertops add an instant touch of class to any room. Also, granite countertops are a favorite among interior decorators because they go with just about any kind of room design.

Granite countertops are available in many different hues and patterns. Some designs may be more expensive than others, and these variations in price are largely dictated by the origin of certain pieces of granite. But when it comes to the stone's functionality, they are all at practically the same level. There are some stones, though, that have flaws that need to be filled in, and granite countertops made from these particular stones will be much less expensive than perfect ones.

Generally, granite countertops are really more costly than other kinds of countertops, but when you think about the benefits they can give you, their cost is in fact more than worth it. If you clean your granite countertops properly, they will last for a very long time. And because of their resistance to scratching and cracking, their beauty will endure as well.

business > How to Select Chisels for Stone Carving
Posted: Nov.30.2007 @ 1:22 am

Sculptors define the shape of their stone sculptures with chisels. Chisels come in different lengths and widths. Point, flat and tooth chisels perform a different function in the carving process. Finer pointed chisels are used for much of the intricate detail of sculpting. Chisels are usually made from steel, but can have tips made of carbide as well.

Steps

1Step One

Choose chisels that are appropriate to the size of your carving and the density of your stone. This refers to the length of the tool, width of the blade or size of the point. You will need a much larger chisel set when making a marble fireplace for example, than when carving a bust out of soapstone. The mallet you will use with the chisels will also vary in size and weight. Heavy materials such as granite and marble may require a pneumatic mallet.

2Step Two

Select a point as the first chisel you use after roughing out (removing large pieces of excess stone). A point chisel produces deep ridges that lead to the initial shaping of the piece.

3Step Three

Refine the general shape of your stone with a tooth chisel. This tool smoothes out large grooves made by points, therefore giving greater definition to the form of your sculpture.

4Step Four

Decrease the size of the chisel head as your sculpture progresses. Use smaller tools for more detailed features or designs.

5Step Five

Use a larger chisel called a gouge when you want to create a concave area. A concave shape looks like the bowl of a spoon.

6Step Six

Scrape out a smaller concave area with a curved chisel called a rondel.

7Step Seven

Select a flat chisel for carving flat surfaces. Flat chisels will also remove texturing from convex areas. A convex shape looks like an upside down spoon.

8Step Eight

Pick strong carbide tipped chisels when carving with hard rock such as granite. You can buy carbide hand tools or chisel points to use with drills or other power tools. Carbide tipped chisels are the most effective way to carve granite.

business > A Guide To Use And Care Of Granite Sinks
Posted: Nov.28.2007 @ 1:12 am

 "The Do's"

The best form of maintenance is frequent, regular cleanings. A little bit of cleaning on a regular basis is preferable to a major cleaning on a sporadic basis.

The best method of preventative maintenance is to ensure that the sink is clean and dry when not in use. Rinse and towel dry the sink after each use in order to minimize major cleanups. (This is particularly appropriate where water may have a high mineral content.)

Keep the sink fixture free of any standing water which may build up mineral deposits. The quality of your water can affect your sinks appearance (particularly a designer color such as Jade) and this water quality will vary from household to household.

Should a mineral deposit build up over time, use vinegar to remove the deposit and follow this by flushing the surface with water. To clean your sink, use the mildest procedure that will do the job effectively.

Use a damp cloth, or sponge with a solution of dishwashing liquid to remove everyday stains from your sink.

More stubborn stains can be removed by scrubbing with an abrasive pad such as ScotchBrite, or any mild abrasive cleanser such as Ajax. (Granite sinks only)

If a stain becomes engrained in the bowl, mix a solution of 40 parts water with 1 part bleach (or biological washing powder), and soak the bowl surface overnight. Then drain and rinse thoroughly with water. This is not to be used as a routine cleaning.

Your Granite sink is made from an extremely hard and tough material. Any metal pots or pans dragged across the bottom of the sink will leave a metal residue. This marking is actually on the surface of the sink and can be removed by scrubbing in a circular manner with a soft nylon brush and a liquid soap.

Try to avoid dropping sharp objects into the sink as they may damage the surface. We recommend using wire bottom grid accessories to avoid this type of damage.

"The Dont's"

Always avoid the use of metal scouring pads, or wire wool, as they will leave a metal residue on the surface of the sink. Over time these minute particles will rust and then give the appearance that the surface of the sink has stained.

Do not leave any mild steel or cast iron cookware or implements anywhere on the sink for extended periods of time. The combined presence of iron and moisture can only lead to staining of the sink.

Do not leave rubber dish mats, wet sponges, or cleaning pads in the sink overnight as they will trap water which could lead to staining and discoloration of the sink surface.

Do not let concentrated bleaches or products containing chlorinated solvents (paint strippers) or products containing formic acid (drain cleaner or kettle descaler) come into contact with the surface of the sink. They may cause discoloration.

Any accidental contact with these materials should be addressed by an immediate cleaning and rinsing of the sink.

Granite has a high heat resistance of 536 centigrade and will be virtually unaffected by brief exposure to objects at this temperature. However, we do not recommend that the sink be used as a cooling place for hot objects ...please use a separate insulated board or tray for that purpose.

Do not use your sink as a cutting surface.
