The intricacy and colors in this tile work that graced Philip II's Monumental building, El Escorial, northwest of Madrid are apparent all over Spain.  Talavera de la Reina was the place in Spain authorized to produce this style of pottery. In El Escorial, the tiles in all the main buildings was Talavera. So it's like Talavera was the official sponsor of all national buildings.
