When I was young, I hated Garfield. I didn't like his attitude about life or what he said or did with all of his time. He was extremely lazy... but, he was honest about one thing... you are what you eat.
Not only are you what you eat, but you are everything else around you. That means - you are your business. It's one of the fun things about being an entrepreneur. Instead of being subjected to someone else's bullshit, you are subjected to your own - or maybe it is good.
Everything that happens in your business is who you are and what you think. So, if you have a business that you never launch off the ground, it is probably reflecting something about who you are, like fear or not wanting to start something new. If you have a business that keeps failing, well, where are you failing yourself?
That means if you are dis-organized or not keeping up with the bills, have a hard time with meeting customer demands, don't have a back office system or can't get your marketing right, get to a plateau than stop, or have millions of dollars, it's probably reflecting something about you, who you are, how you think or habits that you have created.
So, look at what you are eating in your business. Is it good or is it bad? Are you doing things in the correct way or is it reflecting something about your attitude that is stopping you from success?
Your business success, organization and concepts are all up to you to complete in excellence.

In the disease of American business (a few blogs ago), I began touching on the idea of corruption and greed that filters away American businesses. Funny thing, that it keeps proving itself to me. However, with this, there are also several different distinctions that can be made between a business that operates this way and one that doesn't. Here is the first rule.
A business that is greedy doesn't necessarily mean that it has high costs to customers and is trying to take, take, take. One that is greedy will instead, take away value in order to sell more, more, more. The problem with this is not just with the business itself, but also with the customers that are involved in it. As a matter of fact, there are several consumers that are suffering financially because they want more, more, more and don't put their money into the right place.
Let's take an example...think of any large corporation that you know. Most likely, they are operating off of the philosophy - get more, pay less. However, as most also know, the things that they are selling have some background things that perpetrates greed. The first is the way that the manufacturing takes place... pennies on the dollar where the manufacturers don't get their value. The second is that anything that is made this cheaply doesn't have the time, effort or materials. The result? The consumer keeps buying, buying, buying.
In other words, money is an illusion. Just because you are paying less for something doesn't mean that the business isn't greedy. In fact, they are probably taking out value instead, so that they can make twice as much off of you. Then, what happens? The consumer suffers financially because they can't keep replacing what is needed.
Then, the disease starts. Because the consumer has to keep putting their money where there is no value, the businesses with value suffer because their prices are too high and the businesses that are creating an illusion of money get to keep taking, taking, taking.
The disease is taking out the value to make more money. How to cure it? Put your money where your mouth is, and only buy what you find is worth value. By doing this, you will ensure continuous commerce support on both sides of the coin.

If any of you are like me, you automatically want your business to work and are looking forward to longevity, profit and the ability to reach customers on a continuous basis, with a climb towards success.
And, if you are like me, you probably have realized that business is not always that way.
Whether you are beginning or growing, there is always something new to learn, always problems to overcome and strategies that you have to develop. And, every time you get one of them down, another one creeps up behind you to make you stretch your business mind that much more to see exactly what you are going to do.
It's like running a marathon - over and over and over again.
Many businesses will consider these lessons mistakes, and will try to find ways to stop them from happening or will short cut them in order to polish things out for a short time. However, the problem with this is that the mistakes will come back until they are fixed. You can't put a band-aid on a cut that you need stitches for.
No matter what your business is going through, you don't want to stop with a band-aid. It's better to look the problem in the face, take it head on and fix it completely. Whether it is something that you simply need to learn from or a new policy that you need to put in place, allowing yourself to completely shift whatever arises will not only help your business to grow, but will also provide you with a way of learning what the best way to handle things for the real long run will be.
In other words - don't look at your business mistakes as a failing that you have to try and cover up. Embrace it completely, come to grips with what happened, learn what you need to and grow from the experience. It will lead you to complete success.

I just wanted to take this time to thank all of the customers that I have that have been good to me in the past year(s). And, if they find this blog, they will know who they are (and who they aren't).
So, it was just yesterday, I was drinking my morning coffee, and it hit me like a bowling ball... either you have good customers, or you don't. When I first started, I didn't. I lost a lot of money, did a lot of free work, always was getting blamed if things didn't go right and never had the correct information. At the least, my customers were causing me migraines.
Actually, the problem with my customers almost caused me to quit. But, I pulled myself up by the boot straps (as they say), and started over again.
This time, I did things a little bit differently, approached customers in a new way and stopped working with customers that I could tell would be bad.
I'm happy to say...I have a whole new bunch of people, and it is entirely different. All of a sudden, it is exactly the opposite of what it is. I'm getting over paid, instead of not paid. Respected instead of stepped on. And, there is a level of partnership between the two sides instead of my clients treating me like I'm some sort of under dog.
I'm not really saying this just as a tribute, but I"m also saying it for all of the businesses out there. If you have headache clients, tell them to go away or set things so they are cornered and can not budge. Because if one comes in, they will start bringing in the troops. And, analyze the ways to find the good clients that want a partnership and want to do things with you.
I'm giving you permission to choose your customers, have them choose you and to start to succeed by finding the right relationships and partnerships.
It's called business in the stars.

I don't know how many of you have noticed, but the idea of owning a business is becoming incredibly different than it was even 10 years ago. The Internet, alternate and untraditional methods of marketing and organizing a business are bursting into the business-sphere.
Being a business in the stars means having the capabilities to build an idea and business different than the traditional methods. That doesn't just mean one area of traditional methods, but all of them. Business is being done differently. You can either choose the traditional route, or you can choose to jump into the stars!
Orion Information Services was built with the understanding of non-traditional methods used for building a business. I'm not just talking about marketing. I'm talking about the nuts and bolts of how a business functions, what it needs and what it is striving to become. It's about taking the small steps to reach the huge goals.
Because I understand what it means to build a business organically and from the ground up with alternate methods of reaching goals, I also can offer this to businesses that need something a little bit different. When I say that I help businesses reach the stars, that's exactly what I mean.
I look at the business from the top down, see what the goals are and see how to reach them. Orion Information Services has been built off of helping to reach those goals as well as to provide the steps in between that can help businesses get to the stars themselves. That's the little stuff and the big stuff, with the support that is needed from several different perspectives.
So, if you have a business that you want to reach the stars, let's connect! Contact Brooke at info@orion-services.biz or check out our website at www.orion-services.biz.
