A break from the music vids for a short while. Happy new year to everyone reading this. How about some humour to start the year off with. I was going through some old video of my daughter, and found the tape I made of her first year. There were a number of clips on the vid that still make me laugh out loud, so I thought I'd put those moments on youtube for all to see, and hopefully to be as amused as I was.
She was enjoying her solids now, so we were experimenting with different foods to see whether she liked the different flavours. Around her first christmas she was introduced to Nectarine with very funny results. She shuddered with each taste, but wanted more. I'm so glad I captured it on camera. It never fails to amuse me.
Here it is on my other Youtube channel:
Now the next part of my Dad's story.
My Dad part 11
As I mentioned before, my father was an alcoholic. I think it was this that was a key player in the demise of his relationship with Sheila. The two children adored him, but Sheila was getting fed up with the other alcoholics that he brought into the house. One of those was a guy affectionately called Bernie. Another was called Adam. Bernie died from alcohol related things a few years ago. He was a staunch Manchester city football supporter. He even managed to persuade Sheila's son Kashif into his sporting passion. My father wasn't the biggest of men. I'd say he was 5 foot 5 inches tall and very slim. I remember an occasion in Sheila's house where Bernie was in one of his regular drunken stupors. I'm not sure how the conversation started, but at one point he started talking about how he could easily take me at any time (in a fighting sense). Something I seriously doubted, considering he couldn't even walk straight, and I was the sober one. I was quite amused by his suggestion, however my father overheard his words and was less than impressed. Dad rushed in the living room in rage and put one hand around Bernie's throat and physically lifted him off the ground with one hand telling him "Never, ever threaten my son". It did surprise me because Bernie's weight probably exceeded 12 stone, and my father was a mere 9 stone. It is astonishing what adrenaline can do for your strength. The other alcoholic friend of my father's that I got to know was Adam. He was a guy that could handle his drink. A Scotsman that totally enjoyed a good debate. Especially with me. It didn't matter what your opinion was about anything, he would always find another way to look at it. Talking with him was entertaining. The last I heard, he was still alive. I also heard that he had given up the drink. That's fortunate for him. At the time Adam also had a partner, who was also an alcoholic. One morning I received a call telling me that my father and Adam were in a police cell, arrested on suspicion of the rape of Adam's partner. Knowing my father, that was highly unlikely, and it later transpired that Adam's partner had a habit of accusing people of rape. Those are the people that make life more difficult for the genuine rape victims. That's just another one of those gifts from alcohol. It can make you do the strangest things.

I'm now up to my 89th video on Youtube.
This one is called "Beautiful freak" and comes from an album of the same name which was released in 1996 by "The Eels". It's one of my all time favourite albums. At the time their music was cutting edge and I was a big fan of their lyrics. I do plan to do another one from this album in the future. The music is very much the same except I only used Piano, Bass, Cello and Strings. This is the result of my efforts:
Now the tenth installment of my father's story.
My dad part 10.
When I finally caught up with my dad, he was involved in a relationship with a lady called Sheila, who was the mother of two children called Sima and Kashif. She originally came from Tiger bay in Wales, although she certainly had asian roots. Sima and Kashif had great affection for my father. I thought the relationship between him and Sheila was a little odd, although that may just have been how I was looking at it at the time. There was some criticism of the relationship from family, but as far as I was concerned, if it made him happy then everything was ok. I have always believed that people have a right to live their life the way they want to, and make friends with people that they like themselves. Sheila resided in Southall with their dog Ruffles. Southall being west of London. If you didn't already know, the bulk of people living in Southall are Asian. From being at the house many times, my father appeared a little bigoted, with negative comments about those from an Asian background. Yet he was romantically involved with an Asian. One possibility was that this was something that was drummed into him by those around him in his life, but it didn't seem likely, knowing his personality. He was proud to walk in the street with Sheila and her children, as was I.
It is possible that his comments may have originated from those walks with the family though, because of several occasions that he told me about the insults and dirty looks he received from Asians whilst walking with Sheila and her children in town. That is something I experienced too. Just from walking with them. So if any racism existed in this vicious arena then it wasn't coming from my father's side. It was actually coming from the Asians who were horrified to see a white person walking with Asians as a family. How narrow minded. My father was human just like them. Only they were blessed with a good natural tan. :)

Video 88 now. This is my cover version of a recent Coldplay song called "Lost". A lot of people have asked me to sing this one so it's a popular request.
See what you think:
My dad's story will resume in my next post, because there was something I wanted to cover that was quite current. If you are in Britian then you might be familiar with a television show called "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here". There is a celebrity in there called "David Van Day". I was at a friends house when I first saw that he was in there. My friend asked me who he was. I just said that he used to be in a successful band called Dollar in the early 80's, and that my opinion of him was not that great, to put it kindly.
I came to that conclusion because of an event when I was younger. At the age of seventeen I worked at a company called CRS (Co-operative Retail Services), at one of their branches in Uxbridge. On my lunch break I went shopping in WH Smith to purchase some music. The title of one of the purchases was "Videotheque" by "Dollar". It was just pure chance that David Van Day and Therese Bazaar walked in whilst I was buying. The two members of Dollar. They happened to be there to sign copies of their new release, Videotheque. David was vertically challenged, and Therese was even shorter than him. She moved up the counter to me and picked up the records I was buying, complimenting me on my musical taste. Then we had a little chat. David grew more and more impatient, and asked her to get on with the signing. So she asked me for my name and signed it with love, and then shoved the record in front of David, saying "Sign it".
I paid for my discs, said my goodbye's and went back to work. Therese smiled and bid me goodbye, and David said nothing. My impression of him was that he was quite selfish.
I've seen him on "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here" and it looks like he hasn't changed much at all. I have to add that I thought Therese was wonderful. I felt that she was happy for the conversation, which made me feel good.
OK. Youtube time.
I've cracked it. The 1k sub mark has been passed, and I'm now at 1020.
There are 24,010 channel views and the overall video views are 414,193.
I haven't yet planned my next vid, but it's probably going to be another cover. There's also another duet with Kareneng coming up soon :) |

Here's another collaboration with "Ulf Pettersson". The top notch Swedish musician. It's entitiled "I wanna see". I wasn't being serious when I wrote this song. It was a bit of a subtle parody, but then Ulf heard it and loved it. He asked me if he could do his own arrangement of the music. I agreed without hesitation. So this is the result of his efforts. I have to say that I like it a lot better than my original arrangement.
This song is not on my album "Sight Or Sound".
Ulf is a guy that I'd love to do more with in time to come. I admire his work. Ulf is quite taken by my songs as well. Unfortunately we are both tied up with our own tasks at the moment. I've been slaving away with my side of music, and Ulf is currently writing music for film and television. It's likely that you might have heard something by him without even knowing it :)
Check out "I wanna see":
This is the next installment of bits frmo my Dad's life.
My Dad. Part 9.
I think I pointed out previously that my father knew some less than upstanding individuals. I made a good number of friends myself before he came into my life, and before I even knew he existed. I discovered later that a few of those friendships may not have been by chance. I'm not a judge of people. I base my assumptions on how they treat me. Some of my friends advised me more than once that I should avoid mixing with some of the people I met. I saw no reason to adhere to that. These people treated me well, and nothing untoward happened in their company. I found it amusing how people feared some of the individuals I kept company with. I can honestly say that that is something I never felt. They never gave me any reason to fear, and to be honest with you. I wasn't afraid of much at all. I was of the mind that if something bad came along, you dealt with it. Fear just eats up good thinking time. It turned out that my father knew all of those questionable individuals. Even some of those I'd worked with when I left school.
I'm going to tell you a tale of something that reportedly went on at Cowgate road. To protect me from any recriminations, I'm going to say that this is alleged. This is something that my father recounted. He can't be sued because he is now dead. He wanted me to tell this. You may well have heard of the welsh singing star "Tom Jones". Well it involves him. I reckon you probably know who he is. I was told that he had sexual intercourse with a girl that was only 14 years old in the field next to Cowgate Road. She became pregnant. The child was lost and the girl died from leukemia not long after. It's likely that she gave consent, but that kind of act was still illegal. I can't say for sure if this story ever got out. It's certainly controversial, but probably not unusual in the sixties. Tom Jones is not exactly a favourite among some of my family members. I can't say I'm that surprised.
To be continued.......
My album release has stirred up a bit of interest. It will be another 2 months before it's available in all digital outlets. It's currently on CDBaby, Itunes and Amazon. You can find out more on my website at:

This is the fourth out of five original songs on the trot. This song started out as an instrumental song written by a wonderful Swedish musician called "Ulf Pettersson". The first time i heard it, I imagined vocals blending into it. I told Ulf about this, and suggested that I try my ideas out. He was curious to see the results. Ulf wasn't a stranger to my own compositions. In fact he liked quite a few of them. The song in the next post is one of mine that Ulf worked on. For now though, this one is called "Swings and roundabouts". There are some good points about being involved in a relationship. There are also some good points to being single. There are some that you can't have in both though, and this is about one persons struggle with those problems.
This is the result of our efforts.
You can find out more about Ulf, through a link on my website at:

Back to the next part of my father's story.
My Dad. Part 8.
I didn't know about my dad's addiction to alcohol when I first met him. The clues were already there with his nickname of "Woodsy". At the time I didn't even think about what it meant. Eventually I discovered that it was after the drink "Woods Navy Rum". Rum was something he loved. The stronger the better. Though I would have imagined that any drink with ample alcohol would have done. So that's how I finally found him. Before the knowledge of his exploits. A lot of people might frown upon his life, and yes, he did some bad things. The one thing that cannot be denied is that he was biologically my father. I will never be ashamed to call him that. He was one of the two that made it possible for me to live.
In the swinging sixties, drink was celebrated. Drugs were also on many menus. My father wasn't much of a man for drugs. Drink was his vice. That's not to say he didn't take drugs, because he did. Though I think that was more for reasons of popularity. Most drugs on offer were only ever tried once by my father, but smoking pot was something he did more than a few times. A few years ago I sat down to watch a film with my dad. There was a scene of pot smoking, and my father smiled and giggled whilst watching it. I remember him telling me about times when members of the Rolling Stones were doing something very similar in my grandmother's back bedroom. Now that, I can believe. Somehow :) Funnily enough, one of those guys lives quite close to me.
My nan would have been horrified. She knew absolutely nothing about those events. In her eyes, her son John could do no wrong. The rest of the family knew what he was like, but she just wouldn't have it.
There's more parts to this, and a celeb bit. It's not a pleasant tale. If you like Tom Jones then you probably wont like this. That's all I'll say now.

Number three in a string of five. This one is titled "She freaks". This song was the result of a jamming session with my good friend "Steve morgan". I'd done a rough sketch of the song before, and all the missing bits had been filled in by the end of the session. A composition about two partners who were very different. One partner was laid back and relaxed, and the other would go into a rage at the drop of a pin. Some people can identify with this situation, and it can be the other way around to. Take a listen and make your own mind up.
It's another tune that didn't make the album, but it's still one I like a lot. There were so many other tracks to select from. Also I thought the production was lacking. Check out some sound clips of songs that did make it to the album through my website at:
http://www.jeffsmusic.co.uk
Here is another interesting link for you if you feel like it. Not so long ago, I went to a friend's wedding, which was held on the Isle of man. In my opinion, it was one of the best I'd attended. I thought I'd provide a link to some of the many, many photograps taken on that weekend. I appear in a number of them. One of the photo's they like a lot is the one where I was windswept on the summit of Snaefell. Check it out :)

My Dad. Part 7.
Nan loved my dad dearly. Even though he got involved in the scrapes that he did. Everybody else in the family looked like a saint compared to him. He was just likeable. I was unaware of his existence until I was 18 years old. After I found out, I pondered over it for a little while and then left it until I was 21. I traced him through Lily, my Grandmother. Someone else I hadn't met. Once I discovered where she lived, I just went straight up to the front door. I wasn't sure what to feel when I was waiting on the doorstep. I'd seen all these long lost reunions on T.V. and they were all emotional, but I have to say that I felt nothing like that. I was just curious. When the door opened I was greeted with a little white haired lady who just said "Hello". I think I said something like "Hello, are you Lily?". She affirmed it. I then told her that I was John's son, Jeffrey. She smiled and invited me inside. That was surprising. The neighbourhood she lived in wasn't the most secure I'd seen. I could have been an unsavoury character, but she just invited me inside. It has been said a number of times that I physically resemble my father, so maybe she saw that by looking at me. She put the kettle on, and got the biscuits and old photographs out to view. Whilst I was there, she made a call to him and he arranged to meet me in his local pub. Quite astonishing really, considering he hid from his other children.
The day arrived to meet him and I turned up at the pub, initally going into the wrong bar. When I finally went into the right bar, there was a crowd of people in the corner, and he was among them. I just walked straight up to him and said "Hello Dad", and gave him a little hug. For me, there was virtually no emotion in that embrace. After all, this is first time I'd encountered this person. He was a stranger in my eyes. He seemed pretty nervous to begin with, but once the ice was broken, a party mood ensued.
There's more on his life in future posts. Plus some celebrity stuff too.

Another original song that didn't get onto the album "Sight Or Sound". This one is called "Movement". A friend suggested that I put together a tune that was about the world and the environment. I considered that so many people had written songs about that, so I decided to do it from the viewpoint of an animal. We sometimes use the movements of animals to help us to detect things, because they just seem to know.
Here is the result of my efforts.
Again, this one didn't make the cut for the album. There were other better quality songs that took precedence. I said before that 10 of the album tracks can be listened to in full if you go to my Youtube channel. There are many, many positive words from many people, and some of these comments have now been added to the CDBaby page. You can read the comments selection at:

My Dad. Part 6.
Lulu wasn't exclusively in my father's bad books. Someone else was P.J.Proby. I was told that my father decked him for making advances to one of his girlfriends. Shame on him. I'm sure that sort of stuff went on all the time. Perhaps it was his pretence that my father didn't like. I was told by Dad that P.J. used to perform on stage wearing drainpipe trousers, and in an effort to impress the ladies, he used to put a section of hosepipe inside his trousers to make the girls think he was gifted in the groin. I would imagine that any of those ladies that considered that sort of thing important, must have been met with disappointment. The truth will out, as they say. Literally.
My dad also liked to do a bit of DIY. There was a time when his sister asked him to paint her bedroom. For payment of course. It seemed that all went smoothly. After completion she had a quick look at the room and was happy with the results. That pleasure didn't last for long though. A few days after the room had been painted, she thought she'd shift the furniture around. It was then that she discovered that all he had done was painted around the furniture. Leaving large unpainted patches. I'm sure she must have had some choice words for him afterwards. He never told me those.

Now for some stuff written by me. This one is the 1st out of a number of original compositions that didn't make the cut for the album for various reasons. You can listen to clips of some of the album tracks for "Sight Or Sound" at:
Sight Or Sound - Jeff Edwards
Amazon and Ruckus also list this album. More to follow. I've uploaded ten of the album tracks to Youtube over time, but there are five on the album that don't feature there.
The name of this composition is "Tell me why". This is another from a large batch of songs I composed several years ago. It's about a relationship that breaks up with very little explanation. I'm sure there are many that can identify with that situation. I am fond of this tune, but the chorus was a little too weak for my ears. I considered there were better songs to choose from.
You can check it out here:
Moving on to the events of my father.
My Dad. Part 5.
I said in previous posts that my father was in "Cowgate road" in Greenford, West London. In his mother's residence. He loved music from a very young age. Therefore, it was inevitable that he got himself onto the scene. He played The harmonica and guitar. He joined "The frasier chorus". It was a group of four harmonica players. My father wielded the chromatic. They didn't end up cutting any discs, and their achievements were very limited. On the upside, they got to tour with some bigger names.
As he was a part of the mevement, he spent time with a number of individuals that you may recognise today. He has shared a few of his stories with me, and I found them interesting, and surprising. Even with my tolerance. I suppose it wasn't so much of an issue in the 60's. I can't be one hundred percent sure that this occurred in Cowgate road, but it's a tale of Brian Poole from the Tremeloes and Lulu. My Dad was never much a fan of Lulu. I worked that out by the names he had for her. I won't repeat them here. He informed me that Lulu used all the tools at her disposal in order to achieve fame. I don't find that sort of thing surprising. Many people did that. According to my father, Lulu and Brian poole were engaging in sexual activity behind my grandmother's sofa. Maybe it was the excitement of a cold floor, but I would have thought that the couch in front of them was a much more comfortable alternative :)

82 videos done now. This latest one is my cover of the full version of "Run" by "Snow patrol". I've been asked
to sing this by a few people, and I couldn't recall it by name, but when I heard it I recognised it immediately.
I think the song is great. I have used pictures of roads, paths and lighting to set the mood of the video. It's just a slideshow again :)
I hope you enjoy it. Here it is:
My CDBaby webpage has received over one hundred hits now, and the digital album has been sent to 3 companies to date.

Now for more on my father.
My Dad. Part 4.
The relationship between my mother and father didn't last very long. Their first meeting was when she was going out with someone called Michael. After her and Michael broke up, my father appeared back on the scene. It might be difficult to understand how they got together, unless you met him yourself. He had an irresistable personality. An absolute charmer. Just about everybody loved him, and a lot of them knew what he was like. Perhaps it's that old thing about being attracted to risk and danger. It wasn't long before my mother became pregnant with me. I've asked her what was the breaking point for her in the relationship, and there were a few things that swung it. One of the times was when my dad robbed the electricity meter at the place they rented, and left my mother to take the blame. My mother would not take anything from anyone, and she felt so bad to be accused of taking the money. She knew it was my father that was responsible. There were only 3 people that moved in and out of the house, and she was sure that it wasn't the landlord. She could only deny what she was accused of. The landlord adored my father, and refused to believe that it could have been him.
The other event that helped to break the relationship was my mother's eighteenth birthday party. My dad came to the party, but not alone. They were a woman on each arm. I think that would just about do it for most people. I don't know if he did that deliberately to get her to end it instead of him. Knowing him, I'd say it was certainly a possibility.
So it was all over before I came into the world. My mother married someone called "Jeffrey" shortly afterwards. Now you know where I got my name from. He begged my mother not to tell me who my real father was. Instead pretend that he was my father. This was a wonderful arrangement until he had a child of his own. There was a noticeable bias torwards his daughter. My mother believed in fairness, so as a counter measure, she showed bias toward me. My stepfather was a violent man to my mother (unlike my father). So much so that I spent time in hiding as a baby with my mother. One such location was in the attic of a convent. The last time I remember living in the same house as him was when I was about 7. I never realised that he wasn't my father until I was 18 years old, and i didn't meet my real father until I was 21. The stories I tell about his life before me have been collected from him and confirmed by other family members. There's more to come. I can appreciate why my mother tried to keep me away from him in my youth. She feared that I might follow in his footsteps, and I'm glad that she decided upon that course of action.

Now on to the eighty first vid. This was yet another request, and it's called "Afternoons and coffee spoons" originally by "The crash test
dummies". I thought I'd have a little fun with the video. You see so many people singing in the privacy of their
own home, using whatever they can get their hands on as a microphone. Well, I thought I'd expand on that :)
Take a look at my version of "Afternoons and coffee spoons". There's a list of objects in the description of the video, but I think you'd have to go on to Youtube to check that out :)
Now for the continuation of some of the events of my father's life.
My Dad. Part 3.
My Nan lived a majority of her life in "Cowgate road" in the outskirts of of London in a town
called Greenford. That place has reminders for a number of people, as I will expand upon later. It wasn't long
before my father became involved in criminal activities. He became involved in a west london gang, and became
quite an influential member. Dad couldn't keep his paws off of other people's possesions, and at some
point during his association with the gang, guns and knives came into play, though there were never any reports of him using any.
I've got a couple of interesting tales to tell about this time. One was a robbery that he was a part of. It was an art
robbery in Chelsea. He recounted to me that he was fleeing the scene with his hands full, across Chelsea
bridge, and he had to offload because they were slowing him down. So one of the artworks was tossed into the river thames. If the authorities ever wondered where one of the missing paintings went to. The answer to that question is "At the bottom of the thames". He hid the rest of his stash in his mother's attic without her knowledge. So she was quite surprised
when the police raided her house and discovered a collection of paintings. They finally caught up with him and
he paid for the crime.
One thing that could never be underestimated about him was his smooth tongue. He was once arrested for a crime,
and was sure to be convicted and imprisoned, but somehow he managed to talk his way out of trouble. He engaged one of the officers in conversation about music. There weren't many people that weren't fascinated by music in those times. Anyway, this policeman told my father that he was in possesion an old violin. My father excitedly urged him to bring it in
for him to appraise. He managed to convince him that he was an expert in old musical instruments (which he
wasn't). Very soon the officer brought the violin into the station and allowed my father to examine it. My father got very excited about it and he convinced the policeman that this violin was rare and worth money, and he offered him a few hundred pounds to purchase it from him. Now that was an awful lot of money then. The policeman quickly
accepted, and my father obtained the funds through contacts, and the result was one happy policeman. As far as the crime my father was arrested for, well he didn't get charged. Oh yes. The wonderful violin. It was worth nothing. I'm not sure where my father obtained the money, but one thing is for certain. It wasn't his own money.
To be continued......
More news about the album. I've been getting used to the control panel on CDBaby. It's quite good, because it shows me how many visitors my page gets on a daily basis. Also the companies the album has been delivered to for
distribution. There's only one at the moment, and that is "Amazon". However, delivery doesn't mean
availability. That can take from a week to 3 months. Depending on the company.
