alright, this stall is absolutely one of the coolest things i've seen in lyon, and france- normally behind it is this hilarious man, SO SO french, who spends his life making cr�pes (i have had them and they are FANTASTIC) and laughing and joking and bagging all the customers. he wears a little felt peaked cap and a big white apron tied right up over his big round belly and hes so funny and smily. he makes the pancakes so quick, its stunning, but i'm too scared to make a film of him in action or a pic of him, so you can fill him in with your mind.

this was taken from a very looooong and wide 6 person chairlift that went very high and stopped at a place that split into a black run called le diable (the devil), le petit diable (which is red) and a blue run thats highly exilarating but very tiring, i always had shaking legs by the end

this is what i saw in the morning when i woke up, only 4x bigger- i have 3 other shots that i had to take to fit the width whole view. behind the white building on the left was the ice skating rink and the swimming pool, and just to the right of that was the sports store we rented out stuff from and where we left it every night. its kind of hard to see, but i think that aroundabout where the sunshine is that goes a bit higher up on the snow is where the first few runs that i started on.

i love this rickety old patched up roof, this was right on the town square. thats what alot of the houses were like in the little old villages we'd pass thru, they have beautiful spired stone churches and old advertisement boards and stuff, i love it but didnt get many photos cos Elisabeth thinks its ugly :O

we stopped in a little village about an hour away from the station which was surrounded by really cool mountains and had an ice skating rink and stuff... it was SO MUCH COLDER than the last time that we'd stopped, and after about half an hour of walking around i was nearly frozen solid when we got back to the car

this is a bit of a painting of one of my favourite biblical stories (actually its one of like three that i remember from a childrens bible my grandma gave me), but i remember i liked it cos it was gory and had a chick in it who did something apart from give birth or mourn- i recognised her as soon as i saw the painting. i love how strong she is.

this bronze statue isnt very old, from the 20th century, and is called psych� abandon�e. she was sitting at the end of a nearly empty, very quiet room in a shaft on sunlight and shes so beautiful and composed. itd b worth going back to the museum just to see her again.

ok this photo has a little story behind it. it comes from a fun night we spent playing football with charles. it started with hitting a balloon around, which developed into keepings off, which jumped quite bizarrely to putting charles on a little wheeled stand on which normally sits a potted tree, which developed into soccer between elisabeth and i rolling charles to each other, which then moved onto me sitting on the thing with charles on my lap while E pushed us all around the appartement. then charles put his toy dog on the little rolly thing and slung him into a wall, throwing him off and causing him to 'lose his brain'. so we splinted his leg and bandaged his head and then charles insisted i take a photo, along with some (but not all!!!!!!) of the my medication left over from when i had the flu. elisabeth remarked to me that 'the australians might think i am completely crazy when they see the photo'. what do u think?

this shot was taken looking back from the river at the grand city hotel, the building with the flags. facing it, on the left of the picture, is their opera house which has a huge black domed roof and beautiful statues of figures carved from white stone. unfortunatley its just too huge to get a photo of from the front cos you cant get far enough back!!!

a church just on the other side of the river- its so so beautiful and massive and gothic, its more like a cathedral. i'm not sure what the service was for or if it was just the normal sunday morning thing, but note another stereotype frenchman whizzing by on a bicyclette

cos it was overcast it was had to get a good shot of the beautiful beautiful colour in these trees... i took a few on the camera with it set on different colour settings: vivid, green enhanced, red enhanced, and i'm not sure wich one of them this one is but its still not bright enough to show the true colour!

this building was insanely cool, i dont know if you can tell from a smaller photo but the windows are all covered by these really old motley wooden shutters and theres multicoloured terracotta tiles on the roof- it looked very haunted and cool. and theres some more beautiful leaves in front of it also.

i found this very french, i love the car and as you can see the colours of the foliage are very beautiful. elizabeth laughed when she saw this photo and said that this old type of car is very common in france and its called i think deux chevals, they have a rep for always starting no matter how cold they get.

ok so i was taking pics and this guy walked past (smoking of course) and then he came back and started talking to me and pointing and stuff and i am not 100% sure what we said to each other but the general gist of it was:

i want to have a bit of a section for graffitti cos i'm hoping to find some really good street art these two aren't fantastic but they're the beginning. they're from the side of a laundromat a couple of blocks from the house. when i went past it this evening they were closing and there was heaps of steam gushing out of a long grate from a room underneath of the shop- it reminded me of new york. except i've never been to new york. maybe i went in a past life and i am regressing or something... anyway the point is it was cool.

the very beautiful church that i pass every day on the way to school. it's in a very busy area but surrounded by big green trees and i always stop for a moment to look at it. this evening i walked past it a bit before six when it was dark and it was lit up from below with coloured lights... it was really really cool.

i gave charles a petite drapeau (little flag) and he adored it, carrying it around for two days nonstop (i also gave him a few other autralian things including a toy platypus- he had no idea what it was and it was very funny trying to explain it to them in french- feet like a duck, born from eggs but a has a pouch and mile... yes, thats a beak, and there is poisonous points in the legs- its also funny to hear them say platypus in their accent). so i got out my big one to show him and he immediately said "c'est comme une couverture!!!" (it's like a blanket), covered himself with it and fell over.

most of the town was down in a valley and full of shops and little appartments, with a huge monastery in the middle and a 500 year old market place where they still hold things every week. on a hill that surrounded the town on two sides where bigger stones houses of the nobleman, a beautiful church with statues and a jungle garden, and walls all around it to protect it from invaders. we climbed up some tiny steep little alleys so narrow that tzo people couldn't walk side by side and looked down at all the buildings- there were alot more than this but i couldnt fit them in. at the top left on the hill you can kind of see the wall but the light was fading and i couldnt get a very clear pic with the zoom. on the other side of the town it was very green pastures and the valley started filling with mist or the smoke that we could see and smell beginning to come out of the chimneys of the houses. it was very atmospheric.

the whole place was just a mass of colour with stacks of flowers heaped on every grave but i took a few photos playing around with a setting on my camera that shows everything in grey tone except a selected shade.

it looks quite nice and warm doesn't it? you'd imagine a quaint little sunny stone place where you can sit and reflect BUT YOU'D BE WRONG and infact you must continually leap about like a small leaping thing to keep from getting frostbite of the entire body. it's not really that bad but it was my first day and i was ill prepared for the terror of the cold.

we visited a little village cemetary the first day i was here as part of a traditional religious rememberance that was the thursday before i landed where you visit the graves of your family and tend to them and put down flowers. i wandered around taking photos but i won't put them all up. the oldest grave i found was from the 1800's but there were newer ones too.

this is paris at about 5:30 in the morning from the plane window. it was actually about a billion times brighter than this (that's a rough estimate) and so so beautiful and breathtaking and exciting. unfortunately we couldnt find the eiffel tower and when it was lighter we were told that that day the air quality was too bad to see it.
