i like the black & white photo... really, you amaze me... sana maging successful ang book mo... i will be one of your most proud friend kung nangyari yun... honestly, you inspire me... i have a lot of dreams like you, too.... but fear always come in the way... fear of failing & fear that others would just laugh at me & spit on my back & say "Sabi ko na nga ba't di niya kakayanin yan..." really, pinakahahangad ko din ang magkalibro balang araw... marami rin akong compositions but i usually keep them for myself to read lang... ngayon-ngayon nga lang ako nagkakaroon ng lakas ng loob maglabas ng compositions ko through friendster blog & my xanga site. anyway, just wanna thank you for the inspiration... praying for your success.... makulit ka nga... but i admire your determination... sana maging ganyan din ako ka-determinado...

Message from "Valerie" Hey...I came across your site through alumni.net. I used to go to school with you back in Baguio. I stopped when I was in Junior year (I think) and moved to New Jersey, where I eventually graduated. Anyway, I'm valerie or basang as what other people would call me. How are you? Message from jo teary-eyes... that's what i always get after reading your posts... sometimes tears of joy but sometimes tears of sorrow for the little boy & pagka-senti ko... pero ngayon, grabe... naiyak ako sa kakatawa... no wonder bakit mas pinagtuunan ng pansin ng hipag ko magbasa ng blogs mo kesa pagtyagaan ang blogs ko... hahahaha! can't wait to have a copy of your book... grabe! wow talaga... as in... i'm so proud of you... really proud... alam mo ba ipinagkalat ko din sa mga friends ko sa workplace ko about your book. pati mga classmates ko sa UP open univ., to my friends and relatives... my brother also posted in their company site yung ad mo na ubod ng kulit. & his company houses around 700 employees... kahit ilan lang pumatol sa kanila, hope it'll help. my sister in law visited your web site today, she said you're really good... nagpost yata siya ng comment. sabi pa nga niya, mas magaganda daw yung gawa mo kesa sa kin kasi pang-masa. masyado daw seryoso yung mga gawa ko. boring. hay naku! instead of patronizing me kasi sis in law niya ko, bigla bumwelta... hahahaha! this is a good sign... keep on writing... di na nga sina Jessica Zafra, Bob Ong at David Sedaris idol ko, e... Ikaw na... hahahaha! masyado na ba kong sumipsip... joke... but really, i'm so proud of you... sana when i start writing my own book too, i get to have such compliments like you're gaining now... naiinggit ba? goodluck! God bless!!! Message from "Arjo" hi hazel,my sis in law (marjo) asked me to visit your website. actually, it's not my cup of tea to read long stories, poems, blogs, etc. but when i read yours... my gosh! i fell in love of your work... it's my first time, really. anyway, congratulations and keep up the good work. Message from "Adrian" hi there hazel... thanks for this email. although i totally disagree with the content of this email.
hazel, i used to think like you, i was very sensitive to pronounciation, i use to correct and remind people of the "proper" way of saying it these and that. i cannot blame you if you act like this dahil na rin siguro sa work mo as a teacher, you're well desired to check everyone out and tell them the proper pronounciation.
these desire and eagerness of mine changed as i finished my masters degree for languages in heidelberg, same school where rizal went. i finally discovered that there is no actually proper or standard way of speaking english and many more languages. specially english, it is a dynamic language. the word "bird" can be pronounced in different ways, different accents depending on which region you are in great britain where english has originated.
in short, hazel, don't give a damn to how people pronounce there english, as long as you understand them, yon naman ang dapat eh--- it boils down to the roots... wag naman nating gawin ang english as a status symbol, the better your english, the richer you are, or it makes you on the top notch of the higher society. wag hazel, masyadong plastic ang dating.
finally, opinion ko lang, if you want people to adopt your own standard way of speaking english specially in your region, dapat, umpisahan mo sa classroom, sa mga little kids, kasi magiging foundation yan nila, pero wag mong ipagdikdikan sa amin na yan ang tamang pag pronounce ng english niyo, kasi dito sa amin... mali yan. kaya if i were you... leave other people's english alone!
***** Author's Response to this**** Dear avid readers, When I wrote that piece on Milk is not "melk". I posted a Warning sign that if you are sensitive about pronunciation, dont read the whole thing. Well a person felt it was a personal attack. I even admitted that I am guilty of these errors. Here is his message which I will post too, hey its still a comment. It means my site is getting followers. I did not write the piece to insult our people. I Am proud of my being filipino. Its just that ive seen a lot children of my neighbors who do not have friends in school who do not recite, afraid to talk with anyone who speaks english because they are aware of their errors. I start within the classroom. And I think you will agree that your classmates were laughed at when they recite in class and misprounounce words. Please spare these children, functional english is okey but IF WE STEP it up, it will be better, for their own good. Better english does not guarantee wealth, but IT IS the fact that other people UNDERSTAND YOU that is more important especially in foreign land. How come Koreans, Pakistanis and other races go to our country for education not just because of the cheaper tuition fee, but to LEARN ENGLISH. Why can't we remove that "within region" mentality. If we do not remove this type of thinking, our country will go nowhere. Good day! Message from "Manzano" nice.. i better get a copy for our chimi-ah-ah peace **** Author's note*** Comment is a comment, just do not agree with the term for our househelpers. :( Message from "Jon" testing...hi! Ganda ng site ka2gulat lalo na ung content thumbs up! Kaw ba talaga yan hehe :D
Message from "Karen" hi teach! congratulations! anyways, brinodcast ko na sa lahat ng friends ko itong website mo. i read the comment of that "adrain" guy...about that english thing..."where did that cone from?" i love reading all the stuff you right...cheers to you for another accomplishment! keep in touch...
Message from "Tim Scott" woah!the diclaimer maybe wasnt enuf. that was rili samting. i mean, 4 me its even anoying, after reading that comment, i said, wat the... but that his personal opinion anyway, but hell, i have my own too.
im no master nor doctor of any field and i agree that there are no universal way (am i being too absolute?) to pronounce words, but there are proper ways to pronounce a word. as he had said, "...can be pronounced in different ways, different accents depending on which region you are..." w/c means that there is a distinct way on how to pronounce words on a particular area, w/c will also give us 2 basic reason why do we have to know proper pronounciation of words: 1.) 4 us not to be the laughing stuff of everybody, do you wanna be the center of attention jus bec u haven't said the word properly? in short, it is to blend in. 2.) simply and mainly to be UNDERSTOOD. let us ask our selves, "how do you know that there are different ways on how to say a word on different region?" as the comment says, "the word "bird" can be pronounced in different ways, different accents depending on which region you are in great britain..." that is bec they have or that is the proper way of saying words on that particular region, so as New York and any other place that we may please. Bottomline, there rili is a "proper way" on how to pronounce words =-p. (there's more where it came from, if u please. hehehe) ps its up to you if u want to post if, its fine w/ me. *Response to this Comment from the Author*
I DEFINITELY AGREE WITH YOU- Hazel
Message from "Randy"
I had a terrible migraine after reading the articles in the site. It is my fault that I was too lazy to read the article the moment it is posted. New York as the center of all the articles are good. It gives an insight to what New York is and is not. I am not into poems that much for the simple reason that i am indolent and i hate thinking to get to the crux of the matter. A compilation of essays and poems revolving around random thoughts. I am looking forward to the book.
