What are Runescape Private Servers?

Runescape Private Servers provide you with a Runescape game…that is controlled by the players, and not Jagex Ltd. Runescape Private Servers are almost a copy of Runescape, but think of Runescape that has had quite a few modifications and isn’t quite up-to-date as the current live Runescape game. “Moparscape”, that’s the name given to the console that Runescape Private Servers are running through. Maybe you’ve heard of it? Well, Moparscape allows users to connect to Runescape Private Servers through a pleasing graphical user interface - what’s more commonly known to players as the “logon screen”.

Runescape Private Server Running Capabilities

So are there limits to the amount of people that can use Runescape Private Servers? Yes, normally a decent Runescape Private Server will hold approximately 30 players. Whoa! Indeed it’s much less than a normal Runescape server, but remember that the Runescape servers are extremely powerful, where as the Runescape Private Servers are in most cases being run by normal people using a Runescape client on their personal computer. Something that ties in with the amount of people on a Runescape Private Server is the speed of it. The more people connecting = the more lag each person experiences. Considering the power of the personal computer is average, then consider an amount of 30 people or so each requesting new parts of map, new items, fighting, along with the many other things that can be done, it puts enormous load on the computer, and in turn will slow it down.

Runescape Private Servers are Different?

Yes, there are varieties of things that are different on Runescape Private Servers. One being that you can generate your own Runescape Items and have whatever quantity you want. Another being the level-up system, as users can set the level-up experience to whatever they want, which tends to make levelling your account on a Runescape Private Server very much easier than on an original Runescape Server. Become a mod! You can easily become a moderator on a Runescape Private Server…what with little competition, and the fact that it’s not really going to matter what you do as a moderator as your only playing on an image of Runescape and not the real version.

Why Have Runescape Private Servers?

Runescape Private Servers are ran mainly for those who are banned from the official game, are fed up playing with restrictions, or just don’t want to play on an official Runescape server. If your banned from Runescape, of course you want to play, and it seems as though a Runescape Private Server is the only option. If you’re fed up with restrictions in the official game, such as having to achieve certain levels to do simple things, or doing certain quests to get specific armour, then perhaps you want to try Runescape Private Servers. Or maybe your friend has set up a Runescape Private Server and wants you to support him and play because you got fed up with official Runescape…you may decide to jump onto his Runescape Private Server and give him a hand moderating.

Regardless of how little or large the experience you have with Runescape Private Servers, drop a comment into the box below and share your experience with the rest of the users of Runescape Haven.

General - Free Runescape Accounts

Have Free Runescape Accounts been the success of Runescape? I believe that if Runescape as a whole would not have taken off if it hadn’t started off as a game which allows you to setup Free Runescape Accounts. With Runescape allowing the creation of Free Runescape Accounts, Jagex hold a strong position in the MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing) market. The only downside being that you are limited to what you can do with a Free Runescape Account.

Why?! What Limitations are There?

Unfortunately, Jagex have to make money somehow. Like any other business, it needs to make money in order to run, and in order to pay developers to keep creating Runescape. So unlike Free Runescape Accounts, there are Runescape Members Accounts. What are Runescape Member Accounts? Runescape Member Accounts provides a larger map, allows you to obtain more items and enjoy more of Runescape, and it only costs a small fee each month to be a Runescape Member. Free Runescape Accounts are good in one way though, they allow you to train up a wide variety of Runescape Skills.

As there are a wide variety of skills to train to level 99 for Free Runescape Account holders, you’ll not have much time on your hands whilst playing Runescape! Of course, you could take it slow, and there’s always the opportunity to open up more than one account because Jagex do not restrict you to only one account, you can setup a range of Free Runescape Accounts.

Other Types of Free Runescape Accounts?

Yes, there are other types of Free Runescape Accounts that you can get in Runescape. You may or may not know about this, but it’s obvious that there are people playing Runescape now on Free Runescape Accounts that they have been given by a friend or family member. Although it’s against Jagex rules to share accounts and trade accounts, people still continue to do so at their own risk. They risk having their Free Runescape Account banned as account sharing is a way that can be used to cheat. It can also lead to Free Runescape Accounts being stolen. Think of having shared an account with a friend for the period of a year and having gained a really high level, or few high levels on that Free Runescape Account. Then suddenly one day you can no longer sign onto that Free Runescape Account, and figure that the password has been changed…you lose out and there is nothing that can be done.

Sure, you could always sign up a new Free Runescape Account, but think of the time that was wasted and how much effort you put into the old Free Runescape Account.

Will There Always Be Free Runescape Accounts?

I hazard a positive guess at ‘Yes, Runescape will always have a free section in which people can register Free Runescape Accounts and play care-free’. I believe, and I’m sure that I’m not the only one, that if Runescape didn’t have a section in which you can register a Free Runescape Account, then it would ‘flop’ in the MMORPG market. True, there still would be some people playing, which includes the Runescape Member Account holders, but the majority of people onto the internet do not want to jump straight into paying something on a monthly basis without knowing what they are paying for.

What are Runescape Glitches?

Just like the meaning of ‘glitch’ in other gaming context, Runescape Glitches are problems in the game that stop features functioning as they normally would. Sometimes there are Runescape Glitches that arn’t so much of a problem but need to be fixed, and then there are other Runescape Glitches that exploit the game in such a way, they need to be fixed immediately.

Some of the Worst Runescape Glitches

I decided that I would enlighten you to some of the past glitches that have been exploited in Runescape. Have a read of the following:-

The World 111 Glitch

On June 6th 2006 (6/6/6), the “World 111 Glitch”, also known as “Runescape 666″, “The Falador Masacre” which shares many other names, hell broke loose and Runescape Players became victims of the biggest threat in Runescape. What was the threat, I’m sure your eager to know. Basically this Runescape Glitch appeared, when Cursed You became the first person to get 99 Construction, as at the end of his party, he expelled guests from his house, and those that were in the combat ring had the option to ‘Attack’ outside of the house and at all places in Runescape. This Runescape Glitch allowed massacre to spread and people lost varieties of items, ranging from rune armour to a green party hat. Unfortunately, the victims of this outbreak didn’t get any lost items back but were offered an appology by Jagex. Unrelated to the Runescape Glitch, Cursed You actually got banned from Runescape permanently for Real World Trading.

Party Hat Duplicating

Imagine being able to duplicate Party Hats using Runescape Glitches. Hmm, that’d require you to have one first which would seem too much like hard work. What about being able to create any item from scratch? Sounds a lot easier, and it’s exactly what Sixfeetunder managed to do…that was before he was banned. He used Runescape Item IDs in order to generate more of specific items, and because, for example, all r2h have the ID of 81, Jagex could not tell which were real and which were fake. Sixfeetunder told a few friends about the Runescape Glitch he had discovered, and managed to get banned for abusing the game, whether or not his argument to that he wasn’t going to do anything to effect the Runescape economy actually got read by Jagex.

The Conclusion

My suggestion to you is that if you find a Runescape Glitch, or Runescape Glitches, report them immediately to Jagex. Don’t try and abuse the game, stick to the rules, because believe it or not, someone will find out one day, and you risk your account being locked down for ever. Don’t share them with your friends as you only risk their game-play too…which isn’t at all fair to them. Have fun playing Runescape, and hopefully you’ll never fall victim to Runescape Glitches that allow people to chase you around Runescape in chase for your items!

Experienced a Runescape Glitch or know more about the Runescape Glitches mentioned above? Then share them with the rest of Runescape Haven by posting them in the comment box below.

What are Runescape Trainers?

Runescape Trainers allow you a way to cheat in order to get your levels up much more quickly than you would normally be able to. By using a Runescape Trainer, you’re able to totally drop everything you’re currently doing on the computer, and do pretty much whatever you want. That’s right, Runescape Trainers are basically programs that you can setup to do almost whatever you want it to do and then leave your computer to spend time with friends, do that homework you’ve been meaning to do all weekend, and even go to sleep!

Runescape Trainers - Your New Friend?

It’s true that Runescape Trainers may seem all good and may appeal to a lot of Runescape players. Some fall to the trap of using Runescape Trainers, and some walk free of it and manage to steer away from the joy…and sadness that they bring. It may show greatness if you suddenly gain many level 99s in skills that normally take months upon months to obtain…but once you are found out by Jagex then it really is the end of the line and your account will almost certainly be banned on a permanent basis.

Taking the Risk? Is it Worth it?

So do you take the risk and cancel out the consequences? Or do you play fairly, knowing that you are one of many that stay away from Runescape Trainers, the effects that they have on Runescape players and that you keep Runescape that little bit better. Remember that although it may only seem like your making a small difference to Runescape, but in turn, you really are making a huge difference by keeping Runescape free from that extra Runescape Autoer.

Training Hasn’t Been Easier! I Can Now Talk Faster!

“Wow, training my Runescape Account has become so much faster and I can now talk so much faster since I’ve started using my Runescape Trainer. Best of all, it was free!” - Just one of many quotes that you can find littered across the internet. It’s true, that you can get Runescape Trainers to, for example, to Woodcut or Mine for you automatically. It’s also true that you can get them with a built in chat feature which will keep posting out the same message again and again for you to keep requesting items or advertising items. Don’t let all this shadow you from playing the game in a fair and honest way though! Runescape wouldn’t be as it is now if people using these Runescape Cheats wern’t kept at bay, so play your part and report someone you see using Runescape Autoers!

If your thinking of using any type of Runescape Trainer, or a variety of Runescape Trainers, then think very carefully because Jagex will ban anyone using any sort of program(s) that allow a player to gain an unfair advantage in-game above the rest of the players of Runescape. Be aware that Jagex monitor the game closely and if found using a Runescape Trainer then your account will possibly be permanently banned.

Used a Runescape Trainer yourself or know someone who has? Let us know by posting through the comment box at the bottom of the page!

RuneScape started off with plain graphics, without much detail, but that didn’t seem to bother many RuneScape players because graphics aren’t everything in the game, it’s all about the game play. RuneScape offers a huge world full of various monsters, large cities, different skills, quests, with thousands of players from all around the world. This game gives us a chance to interact with people from Canada, the UK, Australia, US, Mexico, and much more. You can train skills such as Magic, Construction, Herblore, or do quests. If not, then you can sit around chatting with your friends in Varrock Center and play around with the emotes. No matter what, there’s always something to do in RuneScape.

Many people would compare RuneScape with World of Warcraft. They would argue that World of Warcraft is better than RuneScape because of the graphics. World of Warcraft is a similar game as RuneScape but overall more complicated than RuneScape. It has millions of players from around the world, just like RuneScape. Here I will explain differences in both games and let you decide which game is better.

World of Warcraft (WoW) was created by Blizzard Entertainment. When you first take a look at the game it looks really exciting. The graphics are what brings you into the game. The thing is for World of Warcraft when you first sign up you get too choose which realm. The realm you choose is the one you have to stick with. Unlike WoW, RuneScape lets you switch between realms, or as known in RS, worlds. There isn’t a limit on how many times you can switch around. For WoW you have to pay an extra 15 dollars just to switch.

After choosing your realm in WoW you can choose which race you would like to be. There is Alliance and Horde, both offering five different races. If you choose Alliance your enemy is Horde, and its the same the other way around. You cannot interact with your enemy either. So if you have a friend on the Horde and your Alliance, you can’t communicate with them. Its the same thing if your not on the same realm as your friend.

In RuneScape however your not allowed to choose a race. When you begin your a human. Each character has the same journey, were as in WoW each race has a different journey, but its basically all the same thing. In WoW you have to choose a ‘path’. You’ll either be a Hunter, Rouge, Mage, Warrior, etc. You have to stick with it, and its your main way of attack. For example if your a Hunter you only get certain spells, certain armor, certain weapons, and are allowed to have a pet to help you in battles. Same goes for every other choice there is, but each is different.

Here is were RuneScape and WoW differ. In RuneScape you get loads of skills. You can train magic, or switch to range, or go to thieving. Were as in WoW if you are a Rouge, you cannot train magic. In RuneScape you can go fishing, mine coal, do some herblore, etc. In WoW you can only choose two careers such as fishing or cooking, and then do other things like skinning, or herblore etc. You cannot train every skill there is in WoW. You also have to pay your “teacher” in WoW just to get better in some skills.

Another difference is in RuneScape if you want to get a higher combat level you just train with monsters doing attack, strength, and defense. Were as in WoW you get very low XP just by killing monsters, so your forced to do quests. Yes there are more quests in WoW than in RuneScape, but that’s the only thing WoW is really about. You have to do quests to get some where in the game, were as in RuneScape if you hate questing you can just be a skiller.

Many people would go wrong to tell you WoW is better than RuneScape because they are both different games and offer different things. Yes the graphics are better than in RuneScape, but personally I prefer RuneScape over WoW because I feel there is more to do in RuneScape. WoW may seem fun in the beginning but then you get bored of it. The game doesn’t actually start until your lvl 70 in WoW which takes forever to get there.

I have to admit though, since the RuneScape HD update, I haven’t felt drawn to the game. The graphics aren’t what are important to me in a game, were as people who play WoW would say the graphics are everything. Jagex the creators of RuneScape are sitting there trying to make the game better, but at each update they only seem to disappoint. Players loved RuneScape because it was fun. It was fun to kill other players in the wild, it was fun to ‘merch’ items, and yes it was fun sometimes to scam other players. I miss those ‘cheesy’ graphics because that’s how I remember RuneScape. You would understand if you’ve been playing as long as I have. The only thing Jagex is doing is making the game boring like WoW. But that’s just my opinion. Many of you would disagree.

DeviousMUD, the forerunner to RuneScape, was created in 1998 by Andrew Gower. The game, which was never publicly released, used isometric graphics. Gower completely rewrote the game in 1999, albeit with no improvements to the graphics. This version was released as a public beta version for approximately one week before it was withdrawn.

As a Cambridge University undergraduate, Gower worked on a complete rewrite of the game with the assistance of his brother, Paul Gower. The isometric view was replaced by a mixture of both three-dimensional and two-dimensional sprites. The game, renamed RuneScape, was released to the public as a beta version on 4 January 2001 and was originally operated from their parents' house in Nottingham. In December 2001, the Gower brothers and Constant Tedder formed Jagex to take over the business aspects of running RuneScape. Jagex developed an interpreted domain-specific scripting language called RuneScript which is used by RuneScape's server for event handling. On 27 February 2002, a monthly membership service was introduced, allowing access to additional features including new areas,
RuneScape's popularity is partially attributable to being accessible from most web browsers allowing players to play the game in many locations. As RuneScape gained more users, Jagex began planning major changes. The developers completely rewrote the game engine so that the graphics were entirely three-dimensional producing a version called RuneScape 2. A beta version was released to paying members on 1 December 2003, and the finished version was launched on 17 March 2004. Upon release, RuneScape 2 was renamed RuneScape, and the older version of the game was kept online as RuneScape Classic. On 12 January 2006, Jagex banned more than 5000 Classic accounts due to cheating and RuneScape Classic was closed to new accounts and restricted to paying members who had played Classic at least once since 3 August 2005, and once every six months after that.

To support RuneScape's free content, advertisements appear on an advertisement banner above the playing screen on the free-to-play servers. On 13 July 2006, Jagex signed an exclusive marketing and distribution contract with WildTangent Games, which granted WildTangent the right to handle advertising in and around RuneScape in the United States. The deal also allowed WildTangent to distribute RuneScape through the WildTangent Games Network, a distribution channel, reaching over 20 million consumer PCs. Jagex moderators have stated that in-game advertisements will not be re-introduced. Since computer users may use advertisement blockers, which may discourage such advertisers, Jagex introduced a rule that prohibits players from blocking the advertisements in the free game.

On 16 May 2006, Jagex upgraded RuneScape's game engine, primarily as a back-end upgrade rather than a visible graphical boost. Programmers reduced RuneScape's memory requirements, allowing the game to be expanded and improved without increasing the loading time for most players. The engine was upgraded once again on 26 June 2007 to allow the addition of future content. On 1 July 2008, Jagex released a beta of their "High Detail" mode for members, with a free-to-play version released two weeks later. Before the launch, Jagex stated that it would be officially revealed at the 2008 E3. At the same time it was announced that the cost of membership would rise on 4 August 2008, adding an additional $0.95/£0.30, raising it to a total of $5.95/£3.50 a month. Currently, existing members whose membership does not lapse for more than 2 weeks will continue to pay the previous price set in 2002.

Vince Farquharson was announced as the new "Head of RuneScape" on 21 October 2008, resulting in Andrew Gower no longer being directly in charge of overseeing the game for the first time in 7 years.

Skills in RuneScape are the abilities that enable players to perform activities in the game. Players gain experience (EXP) in a skill when they utilize the skill, e.g. mining ore trains the mining skill, thereby increasing their level in that skill. As the skill level rises, the ability to retrieve better raw materials and produce better products increases, as does the experience awarded. The total skill level of a player partly symbolizes the player's status in the game. The RuneScape highscore tables can be viewed by all players. Upon reaching the highest available level in a skill, members may buy a special cape, referred to as a "Cape of Accomplishment" or a "Skill Cape", to symbolise their achievement in that skill.

Some skills, such as woodcutting and fishing, enable the player to collect raw materials that can be processed into usable items using other skills, such as fletching and cooking, respectively. The items created can be used by the player or sold to other players in game for a profit. Other skills allow players to kill certain NPCs, build their own houses, move around the map with greater ease, steal from NPCs and various stalls and chests located in-game, cook their own food, create their own potions, create runestones and weapons, grow their own plants, hunt NPC animals, and summon familiars to help in combat and training skills.

RuneScape is a Java-based MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) operated by Jagex Ltd. Recognised by Guiness World Records as the world's most popular free MMORPG, RuneScape has approximately fifteen million active free accounts and is a graphical browser-based game with a large degree of 3D rendering.

RuneScape was created by Andrew Gower, the creator of DeviousMUD, the forerunner to RuneScape, in 1998. Rewritten and renamed, the first version of RuneScape was released to the public on 4 January 2001 in beta form. It has a free-to-play option, and a simple interface that is accessible on most web browsers.

RuneScape takes place in the fantasy-themed realm of Gielinor, which is divided into several different kingdoms, regions, and cities.Players can travel throughout Gielinor on foot, by using magical teleportation spells and devices, or mechanical means of transportation. Each region offers different types of monsters, materials, and quests to challenge players. Unlike many other MMORPGs, there is no linear path that must be followed. Players appear on the screen as customizable avatars, setting their own goals and objectives. Players can combat both monsters and other players, complete quests, or increase their experience in any of the available skills. Players interact with each other through trading, chatting, or playing combative or cooperative mini-games.

Now, if you do this properly, you can make quite a bit. Notice I’m not saying hundreds of thousands or millions. Don’t get me wrong, if you’re selling sharks or lobsters outside the Wilderness then you probably will be able to hit those targets, but not if your just selling good, standard, wholesome foods like you would if you were a low level cook, your much less likely to hit those types of numbers.

Selling food this way is actually a lot more fun than mining coal, or chopping wood. I’ve always found cooking much more variable and enjoyable than hitting rocks and trees; so maybe you’ll like it a lot, and make some nice cash out of it.

I’m now going to speak a bit about Runescape Gold Merchants, and how you can have a headstart when trying to make money through techniques such as merchanting. Now, if you don’t have the initial investment for merchanting, a good idea which you might want to take on is to buy the GP to start off your merchanting career. Buy GP you say? Yes, buy gold pieces, for real money. A lot of sites offer GP for sale, just go to Google and type in “Buying Runescape Gold” and you’ll be bombarded with a list of sites that do this. You could probably buy your first million for pretty cheap, and then use that million in merchanting to make much, much more.
If you really want to, once you make a lot, (millions), you might want to sell it back to one of these sites (most of the time these sites also buy GP off people) and make real cash out of it. There’s a whole article on that on this blog already, so find it, and check it out -:)

There are a lot of people out there, who have no idea how to make money, and how to become filthy rich in Runescape; but with anything, it takes time and effort, there is no quick-fire way of making millions in Runescape; it’s not the lottery after all! Finally, I’m going to speak about fletching, I’ve left this till last as it is a members-only skill, and so not all of you can benefit from it. Fletching is a basic skill at first. You just run around forests, cutting down trees, and making them into arrow shafts; wow-wee, so exciting, but then once you hit a few more levels up, it suddenly gets interesting -:)
