Delete/Repair the Windows Media Player Library

After searching for the fix, It seemed the file path was wrong. If you are having problems with windows media player one of the steps is deleting the database that manages all of the things inside the player.

I have found that path to be:

C:\Documents and Settings\{your user}\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player

Make sure windows media player is closed, then delete everything in that folder.

Leave it to Sony to discontinue a piece of hardware and not support it on their site.

I Know Who Broke Your Comments

Recently some people have noticed at dig an error message about the comments being broken. With 99% certainty I write what I know to be the problem.

Digg uses ajax to pull data when its needed. Firewalls or hardware that is a firewall sometimes blocks these ajax request because the type of request being sent from the ajax call isn't known by the browser.

When the document declares what it is, the Firewall or Watchgaurd looks to see what the browser says a certain document is.

More than likely when you see the error "Oh noz! I broked ur commentz.", it is your firewall or watchgaurd blocking the ajax comment call, that is retrieving the comments you asked.

If I am wrong, it would not be the first time this hour.

Digg Comments Hacked?

Update - Today I am getting random javascript erros on dig describing $i.user().isLoggedIn' is null or not an object. This could be the javascript error throwing the the subcomments into errors along with not allowing the posting of new comments.

This issue is not specific to any browser. Internet explorer, firefox, opera all do the same thing.

Going through comments on digg today, I tried viewing some sub comments. I got this error. "Oh noz!, I broked ur commentz.

This could be a digg error thrower or it could be someone who managed to hack digg.

Al gore won the nobel peace prize? What a joke. See if you can get the error message by expanding comments here.

This comments error is happening all over digg stories where there are sub comments.

ICQ 6 YouTube Link Bug

Maybe its windows, maybe its icq, but one of the two need to be fixed. Ever since I installed icq 6 i have not been able to click on any link inside any message linking to youtube without getting redirected to an error page.

If you have recently uploaded this video, you may need to wait a few minutes for the video to process. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KU18BtdxXX0

The url of the youtube link now becomes:
http://www.youtube.com/browse?&session=1dLtSQQ-g14julJDg4rsssvjJKyAwL9-8LYFmOwHQPptG_zX4EcwFp5_BSahfq7ilp3-hmFxDqqcvcyLI1yICBRwQMeTl-MKiPMBUorl4AQk30y5EhfVb8BG4KrYIzd6Lu0nMb-WllZHjJ0iEiCsEzpYh9JpmiobytaRl-VQicO8mcqOTtZ_3teRgTljgXptQYykQP39hbC_jxvK5kNsn_Bx0eybdKvMEtnUDx2z2sjlu1k8WpJE2wCkvnTHDjqtJmFrd0hARNsUojsPntl9WmslsZLG1chlnHlRFpGGReyCbvKNmBhrqvcZQrVmacCnDXqlRJmItMweNh5igPaCegNuq6AwRqLf-TN1BBTJoA3IPnz-ySCG9NbJEs8NNU55DCxgz6YwuuhCSkRAwPe4OtNtuxwxArUFHnyF2EiP2W-Vm4ISwPRvl-QVCcmH6TQT

in the browser window.

On top of that the icq chat dialog window is extremely hard to copy links out of. You either end up click on the link a bunch of times or never get the mouse in the right place to select the link to copy it to the clip board.

I would bet this bug falls in the hands of icq. Hey ICQ (aol), fix the crap you call software.

Word 2003 Missing Tools In Menu

If you ever find your word 2003 missing the tools option from the top menu of the application, the reset for this is recreating your normal.dot file.

The normal.dot file used by word is very important to words operation. Recreating this file is easy and solves a lot of corruption problems in word.

Search your computer for the file "normal.dot" without quotes. Each user of the computer will have their own normal.dot file in their profile. If your search results for normal.dot are more than one, look to make sure the normal.dot file you are about to rename is in your windows profile. You know this by going to the properties on the file in the search result. If the path to the normal.dot file is in a folder that has your windows login, use that one. What we want to do to the normal.dot file is rename it to normalOld.dot

By changing the name of the normal.dot to something else, allows office to recreate the normal.dot file the next time word 2003 starts. When office recreates the normal.dot, it fixes corruption and bad things that have caused your problem.

You should rename the normal.dot file when word is closed. If word is open you may get an access denied error when trying to rename it.

Recreating the normal.dot file fixes a wide range of problems with word. This note is specific to the missing tools menu in word 2003.

Rthdcpl.exe - Illegal System DLL Relocation

Rthdcpl.exe - Illegal System DLL Relocation

The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\Windows\System32\Hhctrl.ocx occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL.

CAUSE

This problem may occur after you install security update 925902 (MS07-017) and security update 928843 (MS07-008). The Hhctrl.ocx file that is included in security update 928843 and the User32.dll file that is included in security update 925902 have conflicting base addresses. This problem occurs if the program loads the Hhctrl.ocx file before it loads the User32.dll file.

Sometimes the arp cache in your windows system can become corrupt. Most times this corruption happens the NetBT clearing errors out.

Uninstalling your network device from the device manager and re installing the device fixes these issues.

From the control panel click system. Click the hardware tab. Click device manager. Look for network adapters in the list. Right click on your network card and select uninstall. When that is done click the scan for new hardware button.

PCL XL error

Subsystem: kernel

Error: Illegal Tag

Operator: 0x1b

Position:6

Solution:

Re install drivers by going into printers and deleting the printer. Then go into the device manager and scan for new hardware. When the printer is found again it will reinstall the drivers and the printer will work again.

Updated - Re install the printer using the post script drivers. I found that worked as well. Good luck.

IE 7 Flash Problem Fix

Recently flash movies and adobes website told me it could not detect flash. After reinstalling over and over and over again I came to the conclusion I needed to do something else. I could not delete the active x from Internet Explorer options. I even tried installing the flash 9 msi.

What did work was uninstalling the flash player using an unistall program provided by adobe. After uninstalling flash and reinstalling from the flash web install, I am once again able to view flash content.

IE 7 on windows xp is not that reliable.
