Money

Money itself, is not a bad thing; money is the means for providing our every day needs.

But if in our hearts, we love money more than any thing else in our lives, then we should reconsider.

Unfortunately, money has become the base for many personal decision such as choosing spouses and carriers; relationships are breaking up because of money; in social and international levels, money has become the root-cause for many wars and conflicts ... .

It seems that money is becoming the Lord of human kind.

Ironically, in the ideal life which Allah promises human kind, money has no place in human life; considering this very important point, it seems that the smart way to live is -while using money as the means for providing needs- to base our decisions upon Divine values, upon sincerity, honesty, chastity and... .

These are the values which will last for ever; one day we may have money and the next day we may not but True values and beliefs can stay with us forever.

Whether a person is considered a winner or a loser should not be based on the amount of money that person has, rather it should be based on the amount of his faith and closeness to Allah.

The Prophet Mohammad (PBUH&HP) has always said that the smartest human is he who never forgets the Hereafter and answering to Allah.

Imam Saadeq(PBUH) has said:

... I swear to the one who split seeds under the soil and created human soul, there will come a time when money will not have a place in people's lives; because of God's grace ... everyone shall be rich and independent.

Heart of Qur'an
Billedet “<a href=
Whenever we truly love someone, surely we try to learn about his/her likes and dislikes so that our love may grow into a true and satisfying relationship. In loving God, the matter becomes even more personal; because all pleasures are directed towards us; when Allah is pleased, our own souls and hearts become more peaceful, joyful and pleased. If we truly love God, then surely we wish to learn about His likes and dislikes. In Islamic narratives, it has been said that Allah becomes manifest in His Word, for His people. Thus, undoubtedly a sincere person -with all his love- studies the Word of God so that he may establish a heart-warming relationship with his Lord. On the one hand, the Old Testament, Book of kings 1, chapter 8, statement 9, indicates that the original Torah of the Prophet Moses (PBUH) was lost about 3000 years ago and never again found, while the book which is presented as Torah today is what has been written and rewritten by priests over centuries; on the other hand, history -as it is- is not presenting the original Gospel of the Prophet Jesus (PBUH), while over 100 gospels were written by others throughout the ages. BUT Qur’an; Qur’an is a direct revelation of Divine Word to the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH&HP); Qur’an is Unique; there exists no other book with this characteristic and significance! Qur’an in Surah Hejr, verse 9, indicates that Allah has promised to protect Qur’an from all distortions. Qur’an has a body and a spirit; the body of Qur’an is its letters and words which have remained unchanged for over 1400 years; all Muslims around the world have been reading the same verses and surahs of Qur’an for centuries; so from this aspect the promise of Qur’an has been fulfilled. But Qur’an also has a spirit. In Surah Qiamat, verse 19, Allah says that the clarification of Qur’an is a Divine matter; I.e. not just the Word of Qur’an but also its interpretations are from Allahand no one has the right to interpret Qur’an from himself. Allah in Surah Nahl, verse 44, told the Prophet that he (the Prophet) using the bestowed Divine Knowledge, was to clarify and explain Qur’an to people. Elsewhere in Surah Ale-Emraan, verse 7, it is indicated that only Allah and those who firmly penetrate into Knowledge, know the original meanings of Qur’an (Ta’wil); the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH&HP) has clearly clarified that those who firmly penetrate into Knowledge and the knowledge has been bestowed in their hearts (Surah Ankaboot, verse 49), are his God-chosen Successors, the 12 infallible Imams (PBUT). By Allah’s command, the Prophet in Qur’an , Surah Kahf, vs. 109, reminds humankind that if the oceans were ink for writing Allah’s Word and if the oceans were used and refilled and reused, still the writing of Allah’s Word would not have been finished! While Qur’an itself says that nothing has been left out in the Book(Surah An’aam, vs. 38)! It is more than obvious that Qur’an is not merely limited to letters and words printed on papers, rather Qur’an has many hidden secrets; secrets which clarify the words; secrets which keep the Word alive; secrets which only Mohammad and his progeny Know. While all Muslims read the same Qur’an,yet the essential differences between Shi’ah and Sunni are as different as night and day; these all stem from the interpretation of Qur’an; Shi’ah only gets it from the Prophet and his Divine Successors, as commanded by Allah. At Ghadir, the Prophet raised Ali’s (PBUH) hand and in front of over 100000 people, clarified -by Allah’s command- that the only one who knew the clarification and explanation of Qur’an , the only one who held the secrets of Qur’an in his heart, was Ali after him, and after Ali, his infallible children from Ali (PBUT). Ghadir was the public manifestation of an eternal guarantee; by the Divine placement of the Ahl-Ol-Bait next to Qur’an, Qur’an was protected from distortions, both its words and its interpretations; Ghadir was the means for the Divine promise to be fulfilled so that mankind -who is in love with his Lord- may never be without the Word of his beloved. Qur’an with Mohammad and his progeny (PBUT) at its side, will never be distorted and therefore, true monotheism remains. Ghadir is the heart of Qur’an; with the constant beatings of Ghadir throughout the ages, the warm blood of monotheism has been flowing in the veins of humanity… .Aminah.alqaem.org

Prayers and its Effects

ser ser

The Holy Prophet (p.bu.h.) said: " The one who takes prayer light is not of me. No, by Allah, such a person will not reach the Haudh, Pond of abundant."

Man-La-Yahdhurul-Faghih, vol. 1,  p.152

Imam Sadiq (a.s.) said: "If there be a stream at the house of one of you in which the one washes himself five times a day, will there remain anything from the dirt over his body? Verily, the likeness of prayers is the same as the stream. The person who establishes ritual prayers clears out his sins thereby, except for the sin that takes him out from Faith he believes in."

Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 82, p. 236

The Holy Prophet (p.bu.h.) said: "An obligatory prayer, with Allah, is equivalent to one thousand Hajj pilgrimages and one thousand Umrah performances (voluntary pilgrimages to the Ka'ba) which are right and accepted."

Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 99, p.14

The Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) said: "Do not waste your prayers, because, surely, the person who wastes them will be raised with Croesus (Qarun) and Haman so that it is rightfully certain for Allah to put the one in hell with hypocrites."

Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 83, p. 14

The Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) said: "Say each of your prayer as if it were your last prayer."

Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 69, p. 408

Imam Amir-ul-Mu'mineen Ali (a.s.) said: "If a prayerful person knew to what extent he was surrounded by His Mercy, he would never raise his head from (the state of) prostration."

Tasnif-i-Qurar-ul-Hikam, p. 175

Imam Baqir (a.s.) said: "On the Reckoning Day, the First thing that the servant will be reckoned for is the prayer; therefore, if it is accepted, the rest (good actions) will be accepted, too, (otherwise, his other good deeds will not avail him.)"

Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 7, p. 267

At the last moments of his life, Imam Sadiq (a.s.) called his relations and companions and told them: "Verily, our intercession never reaches the one who takes prayers lightly."

Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 82, p. 236

Imam Baqir, the fifth Imam, (a.s.) said: "There are ten things that when a person meets Allah, the Almighty and Glorious, with them, he will enter Heaven:

  1. Confessing that there is no god besides Allah.

  2. And that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

  3. Acknowledging what has come down to the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) from Allah (the Quran).

  4. Establishing regular prayers.

  5. Giving alms.

  6. Fasting Ramadhan.

  7. Performing the Pilgrimage (Hajj) to the Sacred House.

  8. Kindness to the lovers of Allah.

  9. Detachment from the enemies of Allah.

  10. And, avoiding any alcoholic beverage."

Khisal by Saduq, p. 432

Imam Amir-ul-Mu'mineen Ali (a.s.) said: "For the God-fearing, prayer is a means of seeking nearness to Allah; and for the weak, the Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca) is as good as Jihad (fighting in the way of Allah). For every thing there is a levy, and the levy of the body is fasting. The Jihad of a woman is to afford pleasant company to her husband."

Nahjul-Balagha, saying 136

The Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) said: "There comes no night but that the angel of death calls to the dead in the graves and inquires what they regret for today when they have vividly seen (and known) this (next life). Then the dead will say: 'Verily, we regret and envy the believers who are in their mosques and they are praying while we are not; they give alms and we do not; they fast during Ramadhan but we do not; they donate in charity what they have more than the need of their family members while we do not; ..."

Irshad-ul-Qulub, p. 53

The Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) said: "At the (appointed) time of every prayer (salat), I hear a caller who calls and says: 'O children of Adam! keep up prayers in order to extinguish the fire you have lit against yourselves (by committing sins)."

Mustadrak-ul-Wasa'il, vol. 3, p. 102

The Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) said: "Be careful of the prayers, for, on the Day of Resurrection, when Allah, the Exalted, will bring the servant (for reckoning), the first thing that He will ask him about will be the prayer. If the one brings it completely, he will be of the people of salvation, otherwise, he will be thrown in the Fire."

Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 82, p. 202

Abubasir said that he visited Umm-i-Hamidah (Musa-ibn-Ja'far's (a.s.) mother) in order to console her for the death of Ja'far-ibn-Muhammad (a.s.). Then she wept and he wept because of her weeping. After that, she said: 'O' Aba Muhammad! If you had seen Ja'far-ibn-Muhammad when he was on his deathbed, you would have observed a wonderful thing: He opened his eyes and said to gather all of his relatives.' Then, she continued saying that they gathered them all with no exception. Then he (a.s.) looked at them and said: 'Verily, our intercession does not reach the one who takes prayers lightly."

Wasa'il-ush-Shi'ah, vol. 4, p. 26

The Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) said: "The worship done by the one who earns his living on unlawful money is similar to a building constructed upon sand."

Midnight Prayers

p p

The Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) said: "The honour of a believer lies in his vigilance at night and his esteem lies in his autonomy from people."

Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 82, p. 202

Imam Amir-ul-Mu'mineen Ali (a.s.) said: "He who sleeps too much at night, will lose something of his deeds (i.e., night prayers) which he cannot gain during the day-time."

Qurar-ul-Hikam, p. 289

Imam Sadiq (a.s.) said that Allah (s.w.t.) in a revelation told Moses, the son of Imran (a.s.): "O' you son of Imran! those who only claim that they love Me, tell a lie, for when the night falls they neglect Me."

Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 13, p. 329

Imam Sadiq (a.s.) said: "Never miss midnight prayers! because, in fact, the real loser is he who misses (the advantage of) the midnight prayer."

Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 83, p. 127

Imam Sadiq (a.s.) said: "The Messenger of Allah (p.b.u.h.) told Gabriel to preach to him, and he said: 'Live howsoever you like but you will surely die; love whatsoever you like but you will surely depart from it; do whatsoever you like but you will certainly meet it (and receive its reward). The honour of a (Muslim) believer is his mid-night prayers, and his nobility is his refraining from (ruining) people's reputation."

Khisal by Saduq, p. 7

Imam Sadiq (a.s.) said: "There are three things which are the honour of a believer and his ornament both in this world and the next. They are: prayers in the last part of night (night prayers), not coveting what people posses in their hands, and the love (and leadership) of Imam from the progeny of Muhammad (p.b.u.h.)."

Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 75, p. 107

Imam Muhammad-ibn-Ali, Jawad-ul-A'immah, (a.s.) said: "He who has confidence in Allah, sees joy; and he who trusts on Him, He will suffice his affairs."

Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 78, p. 79

Imam Sadiq (a.s.) said: "Never miss midnight prayers! because, in fact, the real loser is he who misses (the advantage of) the midnight prayer."

Allah our Lord

If we see a beautiful picture painted on good canvas, do we not think that an artist produced it?

If we see an automatic machine, regularly manufacturing articles, are we not led to think that there is an engineer who made, designed and invented its system?

If we see a book written in any scientific field, surely we are aware that an author wrote it?

Surely the picture could not have been created without an artist!

Surely the machine could not work without an engineer!

Surely the book could not be written without an author!

Is it possible to say that this book in your hand was written by chance?

Would you believe it if someone told you that it happened that the paper was scattered by wind, and ink was spilt on it, and thus the book was written?

Basic human sense does not believe such a supposition but rather, makes fun of it. Thus everything needs a maker or a creator; nothing can come into existence without there being an originator: the creator.

Look at the sky and do you not wonder how the bright and beautiful sun sends down its light and heat to the people on earth? Look at the land upon which we live and ask how do plants grow on it?

Look at the water we drink, the air we breathe; the sun when it sets and the night when it comes; then, look at the beautiful stars which are impossible to count, and the light of the moon.

Look, and then think how were these wonders created and who then created them? Are they created by themselves or do they have a creator who made them?

They are as in need of a maker or a creator, as a house which needs a builder to be built; or a chair, on which we sit, needs a carpenter to be made; or a picture needs an artist in order to be painted, or a book needs an author to be written. And certainly Allah is their Creator and Maker Who created everything.

Let us ponder about ourselves and our bodies, and ask:

Who created us in this unique way?
Who gave us two eyes with which to see?
And the tongue with which we talk?
And two hands with which we work?
And two legs with which we walk?
And two ears with which we hear?
Who created the food we eat and the water we drink?

Not the farmer who cultivated the crops nor the plumber who connected the pipes. Without food and water, one will surely die.

Who gave us the air which we breathe? Without air, surely we will suffocate and die.

Indeed, our Creator is He Who created the heavens, the earth, water, air and the stars. And He is All-Great and All-Powerful. It is He Who created and provided us with all these amenities of life.

Knowing Allah, His Greatness and His Grace

The Holy Prophet (p.bu.h.) said: "O' people! verily, there is no prophet after me, nor any Ummah after you (Muslims). So, take care to worship your Lord, perform your five ritual prayers, fast in the appointed month (Ramadhan), make Pilgrimage to the House of your Lord (Mecca), give the alms of your wealth in order to purify your souls thereby, and obey the Holders of Authority, so that you enter the Paradise of your Lord."

Khisal-i-Saduq, p.152

Imam Amir-ul-Mu'mineen Ali (a.s.) said: "Having the Greatness of the Creator in your mind would make you realise the insignificance of the creatures in your view."

Nahjul-Balagha, Statement 129

Imam Amir-ul-Mu'mineen Ali (a.s.) said: "Blessed is he who sincerely devotes the entirity of his actions, knowledge, love, hatred, receiving, relinquishing, speech, silence, deeds and statements absolutely to Allah."

Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 77, p.289

Imam Sadiq (a.s.) said: "The heart is the sanctuary of Allah, therefore, do not settle therein anything but Allah." (The sacred place of the heart belongs to Allah and Him alone. Therefore, keep the love of the world out of it.)

Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 70, p. 25

Imam Sadiq (a.s.) said: "Our true followers are those who, when they are alone, remember Allah abundantly." (That is, they avoid committing vices in private where there is no barrier for them to commit sin by the mere remembrance of Allah.)

Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 93, p. 162

Imam Baqir (a.s.) said: "By Allah, He, the Exalted, expects of people but two traits; that they confess for Him the blessings in order that He increases His bounties for them; and that they make confessions about their evil actions and then He forgives those sins for them."

Al-Kafi, vol. 2, p. 426

Imam Husayn-ibn-Ali (a.s.) said: "Verily, Allah, the Exalted, has not created human beings except for recognising Him and worshipping Him as (the consequence of ) knowing Him; and when they worship Him they would lack the need of adoring any human being (or things) other than Him because of that worship."

Safinat-ul-Bihar, vol. 2, p. 180

Imam Ali-ibn-ul-Husayn (a.s.) said: "There is no destruction (Hell) for a believer having three qualities: Confessing that there is no god besides Allah, the One Who has no partner; the intercession of the Messenger of Allah; and the vastness of the Grace of Allah."

Safinat-ul-Bihar, p. 517

Islamic general > Do you Know...What Quran Say About The Six Days !

Blue Quran

It is mentioned in Quran that this universe was created in six days or six periods. This is mentioned in 7 different verses and also explained in details in three other verses.

1- Chapter: 7 , Verse: 54

your guardian-lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and is firmly established on the throne.

2- Chapter: 25 , Verse: 59

he who created the heavens and the earth and all that is between, in six days, and is firmly established on the throne (of authority): Allah most gracious: ask thou, then, about him of any acquainted (with such things).

3- Chapter: 57 , Verse: 4

He it is who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and is moreover firmly established on the throne (of authority). he knows what enters within the earth and what comes forth out of it, what comes down from heaven and what mounts up to it. and he is with you where so ever ye may be. and Allah sees well all that ye do.

4- Chapter: 11 , Verse: 7

he it is who created the heavens and the earth in six days - and his throne was over the waters - that he might try you, which of you is best in conduct. but if thou wert to say to them, "ye shall indeed be raised up after death", the unbelievers would be sure to say, "this is nothing but obvious sorcery!"

5- Chapter: 32 , Verse: 4

It is Allah who has created the heavens and the earth, and all between them, in six days, and is firmly established on the throne (of authority): ye have none, besides him, to protect or intercede (for you): will ye not then receive admonition?

6- Chapter: 10 , Verse: 3

verily your lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and is firmly established on the throne (of authority), regulating and governing all things. no intercessor (can plead with him) except after his leave (hath been obtained). this is Allah your lord; him therefore serve ye: will ye not receive admonition?

7- Chapter: 50 , Verse: 38

we created the heavens and the earth and all between them in six days, nor did any sense of weariness touch us.

Following verse, explain these six periods:

8- Chapter: 41 , Verse: 9

say: is it that ye deny him who created the earth in two days? and do ye join equals with him? he is the lord of (all) the worlds.

9- Chapter: 41 , Verse: 10

he set on the (earth), mountains standing firm, high above it, and bestowed blessings on the earth, and measure therein all things to give them nourishment in due proportion, in four days, in accordance with (the needs of) those who seek (sustenance).

10- Chapter: 41 , Verse: 12

so he completed them as seven firmaments in two days, and he assigned to each heaven its duty and command. and we adorned the lower heaven with lights, and (provided it) with guard. such is the decree of (him) the exalted in might, full of knowledge.

Based on above three verses, some argues that the duration of creation was eight periods and therefore there is a contradiction in Quran. This is clearly not the case here because in the four days mentioned above, also is include the creation of earth in the first two days. Therefore in summary, based on Quranic verses, God created the earth and this world in the two days. In the next two days, the world was prepared for evolving the life. Afterward, skies and spiritual world were created in the last two days.

I see God in every where to look at it.

I saw God in you again today
There in the gentle touch of your hand
I saw Him in your bright smile
Only God and I could understand.

I saw God in children as they play
I see Him in teens and older folks too
He is there in a stranger's face
I see God where I go and what I do.

I saw God in a baby's hand and smile
He was there in a beautiful rainbow
I saw Him in a quiet, calm stream
He is there when silent breezes blow.

As friends walked down the street
Talking and laughing as friends do

I saw God in their kindness today
It was then I also thought of you.

I saw God in the morning dew

He was there in the beauty of a flower

I saw Him as He created the sunset

I see Him every day and hour.

Let go and let God.

They say that God is everywhere,
and yet we always think of Him as somewhat of a recluse.
God is within you,
but we place Him outside and worship Him.

God gives birds their food,
but they must fly for it.

Prayer is not changing God's reluctance but taking hold of God's willingness.

Who falls for love of God shall rise a stare.

If we just stop looking for the Red Sea to split,
we might see all the wonderful miracles
God makes all around us every day.

God does not care much for the importance of our work,
as for the love with which they are done.

All religions are paths but the paths are not God.

God is that, the greater than which cannot be perceived.

Love is the highest gift of God.

Abstaining from luxuries is the way to God.

By practicingGod's remembrance,
your inner being will be illuminated little by little,
and you'll achieve some measure of detachment from the world.

God is the East and the West
and wherever you turn, there is God's face.

The prayer most acceptable to
God comes from a thankful heart.

Sooner or later you have to seek God. Why not now?

whoever wants to find God will find a way to Him.

Sleep in peace, God is awake.

God brings men into deep waters,
not to drown them but to cleanse them.

Know that all which is other than God veils you from Him.

All God's testing has a purpose, someday you'll see the light.
What He asks is that you trust Him, walk by faith and not by sight.

God, often in His wisdom, sends angels down to walk with us.
We know them best as friends.

The Quran on God's Love

Say: if you love God, then follow me, God will love you and forgive you your faults, and God is forgiving, merciful
Say: obey God and the messenger; but if they turn back, then surely God does not love the unbelievers
Islam in one sense is different from some other major religions of the world. The picture of God that has been depicted in Quran, as we Muslims all believe, is a combination of love toward good people and aversion toward bad people. This has been repeated in at least 40 verses of holly Quran with a clear definition for good people and bad people. This article aims to distinguish between these two groups based on Quranic verses and clarify the image of people whom God loves.
As mentioned in above two verses, the first step is to follow the path that has been shown to us by god's messenger. This is the most beautiful picture that one can demonstrate as a mutual love. If you do love your God, you are therefore prompted to follow the path that has been shown to you and prepare yourself to receive his love. But it is also stated that the people who do not follow the right path are not to be loved by God.
This may need a little bit more clarification on the definition of right path and people who are to be loved by God. Perhaps the most distinguished characteristic for these people which has been mentioned in 5 verses of Quran (2:195, 3:134, 3:148, 5:13 and 5:93) is to do good to others. Doing good could be helping poor people, supporting orphans or even respecting one's parents which have been also mentioned in various verses of Quran.
Others, based on Quran, are people who:
guard themselves against sin (3:76, 9:4, 9:7)
judge fairly (5:42, 49:9, 60:8)
fight in God's way (61:4)
purify themselves (2:222, 9:108)
turn much to God (2:222)

trust in God (3:159)
and are patient (3:146).
On the other hand, God does not love the person who is:an unbeliever (3:32, 30:45)
arrogant (16:23, 4:36, 31:18, 57:23)
cruel (3:57, 3:140, 42:40)
unfaithful and ungrateful (2:276, 22:38)
exceeding the limits (2:190, 5:87, 7:55)
extravagant (6:141, 7:31)
mischief-maker (2:205, 5:64, 28:77)
treacherous (8:58, 4:107)
and exulting in riches (28:76)

Why do we need a Religion?

The question is "Why do we need a religion?" I am not going to answer this particular question directly.

In fact, I view the "religion" itself as being offensive. It is a misrepresentation of the word "deen", which means a complete, structured, divinely ordained way of life.

Therefore I say "Why are we in need of a correct way of life?"

Some May Ask, Why Talk About This?

But Look Around You, How many in Fact do understand there religion?..

How many praticy in Love toward's Allah The Al Mighty?

Our Problem Today is Lack.weakness and a very low Caracter..No Iman and Only eye's for all what's actually are forbidding to us.

Did Allah The Al Migthy Ever Tell You; That Your Life Should Be with An Among of Gold,Money and material Thing's?

Did Allah The Al Mighty Ever Tell You; That Thing's Around You, Should Be A Goal to Archieve?

Its Very Clear, That The Most Importent Word's Allah The Al Mighty Sent Toward's Human's Are Forgotten!

The essence of faith is to worship Allah – Allah says, "And I (Allâh) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone)."  51:56

If one worships God sincerely, He will provide him with the best things.

Hazrat Zahra (A.S)We have been placed on this earth for a special purpose, and one day we will be questioned regarding the fulfillment of that purpose, and whether we have fulfilled our obligations to God, society and to ourselvesReligion must address essential humanistic needs - physical needs, societal needs, emotional needs and psychological needs.

My mission today is to show you what Islam puts forward in relation to these needs.

It is not my purpose to "win you over to Islam." We hold firmly that your entering Islam will not benefit Allah in all His Glory in any way, and His Glory will not be diminished by your rejection of Islam. My mission is simply to get you acquainted with what one-fifth of the world’s population espouse as being the Ultimate Truth. It is to clarify your doubts, address your stereotypical assumptions and to call you to the realization that Allah calls you to worship Him Alone

Physical need

Turning first to physical needs - it is essential that a person’s physical needs be met, regardless of the individual’s place or situation.
Examples of physical needs include food, the quenching of one’s physical thirst, the displacement of one’s sexual drive, the need for freedom, security and peace.

Islam touches upon all of those essential aspects of our physical life – what we eat, how we eat, why we eat, with whom we share our food, etc. It is a complete way of life.

The Prophet (sala Allahu ‘Alihi wa Salaam - Peace be upon him) gave the example of an individual who is in the middle of the desert, and his camel runs away, taking with it all his provisions.

He will raise his hands in supplication and will say, "O Allah, feed me", but his food that he had was from haram or unlawful sources, and his clothing was from haram or unlawful sources.

The Prophet (sala Allahu ‘Alihi wa Salaam - Peace be upon him) asked, how can this man expect that Allah will accept his supplication and prayers?

This shows the importance in Islam of fulfilling our physical needs in the correct manner.

As Muslims we do not simply seek out sustenance and nourishment. Rather we seek out lawful means to earn the wealth with which we purchase our foods.

A true Muslim would prefer to forgo special foods purchase from illicit sources and eat in its place bread and water.

In Islam, the difference between halal (lawful things) and haram (unlawful things) is the articulation of a word and the righteous intention that accompanies it.

A good example is marriage. The difference between halal and haram personal relations between a man and a woman is that the bride and the groom saying "I accept" – that utterance governs the entire future of those two people.

In Islam, marriage is essential, and having relations outside of marriage is haram – it is a social vice that is deemed worthy of punishment.

Therefore we see that the discharge of ones’ physical needs – food, water, and lusts – are governed by the Laws of Allah.

As such, we begin to now see that Islam means to submit to Allah to attain peace with Allah.

The scholars of Islam have stated that the essence of Islam is captured in the Qur’an.

The essence of the Qur’an in turn is encompassed in the opening chapter of the Qur’an wherein Allah states

With the Name of Allâh, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

All the praises and thanks be to Allâh, the Lord of the 'Alamîn (all that exists).

The Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

The Only Owner (and the Only Ruling Judge) of the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection).

You (Alone) we worship, and You (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything).

Guide us to the Straight Way

The Way of those on whom You have bestowed Your Grace, not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger, nor of those who went astray

And the essence of the opening chapter of the Qur’an is contained in one verse of the opening chapter: Iyyaaka na’budu wa iyyaaka nasta’een – You (Alone) we worship, and You (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything).

Thus, the essence of Islam to is to submit only to Allah.

It is also important to note that Islam contains a martial law that dictate the mannerisms of warfare –

laws that are so strict that if a Muslim breaks them against a non-Muslim, the non-Muslim is viewed as being oppressed, and the Muslim is the oppressor.

In Islam we hold firmly that if in such a situation the Muslim would be deemed a sinner and at risk of being worthy of Allah’s Wrath and punishment.

As human beings we understand the necessity of a person’s way of life being fluid – inflexible in some circumstances, but malleable in others.

Muslims come from many, many different nationalities – but they all believe in the same thing, perform the same acts and submit in unison to Allah.

Islam is fluid, and accessible to all nationalities.

The Prophet (sala Allahu ‘Alihi wa Salaam - Peace be upon him) informed that he came to teach both the light and the dark in complexion.

And the Qur’an states that:

Omankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allâh is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa (piety). Verily, Allâh is All-Knowing, All-Aware." Al-Hujurat (49:13)

Social needs

In Islam, it is an individual’s responsibility to his Creator that he lives among the people according to Islam.

Therefore, for example, an employee should be diligent, punctual and perform his duties correctly – not because he is afraid that he will be fired or he may suffer a pay cut, but only because he fears Allah.

He or she knows that Allah is judging them in how well they fulfill their duties and the obligations that they have been delegated.

Similarly, the family situation is based on love, trust, caring and openness, not because a person is a mother or father, but because their Creator directs them to treat their family members with love, respect and justness.

Environmental laws

Islam also dictates that we share what Allah has given us on this earth. Islam contains more specific laws relating to the physical environment than any other faith.

For example, the Prophet (sala Allahu ‘Alihi wa Salaam - Peace be upon him) said: "A woman has been brought to the door of Hell because she was cruel to a cat."

His companions asked, "How could this be?" He replied, "She confined the cat to a cage so it could not go out and find food, and she did not feed it herself."

The Prophet (sala Allahu ‘Alihi wa Salaam - Peace be upon him) also said, "A man has been granted admission to Paradise because he gave water to a thirsty dog."

Once the Prophet (sala Allahu ‘Alihi wa Salaam - Peace be upon him) saw a camel with tears in its eyes.

The Prophet consoled the camel, and noticed that it had an excessive load of burden on its back, which was causing it to be distressed.

The Prophet ((sala Allahu ‘Alihi wa Salaam - Peace be upon him) admonished the person who had done this to the camel.

The Prophet (sala Allahu ‘Alihi wa Salaam - Peace be upon him) would often give his lessons under the shade of a tree. He informed his that the tree can hear him and benefits from his nearness.

The Prophet (sala Allahu ‘Alihi wa Salaam - Peace be upon him) said, "If an individual has an opportunity to plant a tree, even if he knows the Day of Judgment is imminent, let him plant the tree."

The Prophet ((sala Allahu ‘Alihi wa Salaam - Peace be upon him) taught us that we would be rewarded for planting a tree even if the fruits of the tree were stolen – because planting the tree itself is an act that is sanctioned by Allah.

We are Allah’s vicegerents on the earth; it has been given us in trust. Just as we are not the lords of nature and the world, so the world is not our property which we can dispose of as we wish or as we are able.

Allah created nature and it belongs to Allah.

Everything in nature is a sign of Allah’s existence; that is, a token or missive.

The Qur’an expresses this truth as follows.

"We shall show them our signs in the [furthest] regions [of the earth], and in their own souls." Fussilat 41:53

"Behold! In the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of the night and the day; in the sailing of the ships through the ocean for the profit of mankind; in the rain which God sends down from the skies, and the life which He gives therewith to an earth that is dead; in the beasts of all kinds that He scatters through the earth; in the change of the winds, and the clouds subjugated between the sky and earth — [here] indeed are signs for a people who think." Al-Baqarah 2:16.

Emotional needs and the Importance of family relationships

Islam also teaches us the importance of the family relationship.

The relationship in the home is a relationship that builds communities.

The first people that the Prophets would tell of their Divine Message were their own family members – for example, after seeing the burning bush, Moses first went home and told his immediate family of what he had seen; when Noah heard that the flood was about to come, he first went and told his family.

The same was true of the Prophet Mohammad (sala Allahu ‘Alihi wa Salaam - Peace be upon him) – the first people that he told about his message were his wife, his best friend, his cousin and his adopted son.

The Muslims must follow this example.

When Muslims give anything – whether it be knowledge or material things – they must begin first with their immediate families, and spread from there to their friends, neighbours and extended families.

Rules for living in society

Islam seeks to stamp out all vices. So intoxication is forbidden in all its forms – alcohol, drugs, cigarettes etc – because intoxication leads to decay in society.

Extra-marital activities are also forbidden for a similar reason. The taking of a human life without due cause is forbidden.

The Qur’an states – as does the Torah – that the one who gives life to an individual – that is, saves a human life – it is as if he has brought life to all of humanity; and the one who kills an individual, it is as if he has brought death to all of humanity.

But the Qur’an also states – as does the Torah – an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.

The one who begins the aggression is the oppressor.

Islam has a shari’ah – a set of laws or rules which Muslims must follow. In Islam, one cannot say that man-made laws could ever be better than laws ordained by Allah.

The Qur’an states: "Should not He Who has created know (what is best for His Creation)?

And He is the Most Kind and Courteous (to His slaves) All-Aware (of everything)." Al-Mulk 67:14

Why Islam?

Why do we have to follow a shari’ah or divine law?

Why this way of life?

What is so valuable about this way of life that would cause people to leave the path they have known their whole life and join Islam?

The answer is simple. It is not always a person’s own choice, but a guidance from Allah.

The Qur’an says that the example of one who receives guidance is as of one who has life.

And the example of one who does not receive guidance is as one who is dead.

Success is not tangible or measurable – one can never be rich enough, or pretty enough, or ever have enough things.

As the Prophet (sala Allahu ‘Alihi wa Salaam - Peace be upon him) said, "If a man was given a valley of gold, he would search for another one."

But in Islam, the individual recognises that no matter how high he is, he can never be free of need.

No matter how high he is, it can be taken from him instantly – especially if his status and position is ill-gotten.

Also – and perhaps more importantly – the individual realises that no matter how depressed he is, there is always Allah watching over him, and it could always be worse.

The individual knows that there is something more than the 60 or 70 years on this earth, and that there will come a day when he will be asked about how he fulfilled his obligations.

There are three essential elements to belief in Allah:

1) Belief that there is a Creator and a Rabb - Lord.

2) Belief that the Creator is singular and the only one deserving of worship since He Alone is the sole Creator. As well if there was more than one, they would compete with each other. Allah is the only One solely worthy of worship.

3) Belief in the attributes of the Creator – this entails learning about who Allah is and how He describes Himself to us through study of the scriptures so as to recognize Him and maintain our duties to Him.

I challenge you to pick up any copy of the Qur’an and read it, see why it attracts so many.

Feel its resonance in your heart.

This is not different from the method of those at the time of the Prophet Mohammad (sala Allahu ‘Alihi wa Salaam - Peace be upon him): a group of people would walk past and hear the recitation of a passage from the Qur’an, and it would bring tears to their eyes.

The method is the same as that which worked to bring people to the truth at the time of Jesus (alihi as Salaam- Peace be upon him) – he would say to people "Follow me", and they would follow him, because they would hear the truth in what he said.

Think of the power of the testimony of Faith that Muslims constantly affirm in word, inner belief and outward action. The Shaahaada –

Testimony of Faith is simple yet complex.

In it we show our complete belief in the fact that Allah – we bear witness that He is the only one worth worship.

You cannot bear witness to something unless you have seen it.

None of us have seen God, or the Prophet Mohammad (sala Allahu ‘Alihi wa Salaam - Peace be upon him), but we bear witness based on the certainty of our faith that there is a God, and Mohammad (sala Allahu ‘Alihi wa Salaam - Peace be upon him) is His Messenger.

We pray five times a day – not when we want to, but at prescribed times throughout the day.

We fast – even from the things that are lawful, such as water and food – simply to show God that we are willing to sacrifice anything to please Him.

We give charity – 2.5% of the money saved from throughout the year – to aid those in need.

We perform pilgrimage – the pilgrimage that changes lives. Malcolm X hated the concept of integration of races. For him, "the white man was the devil".

This was a product of the intense oppression suffered by racial minorities in many countries, especially in the USA. Allah blessed this man who was full of hatred with pilgrimage.

Malcolm X wrote a letter from Hajj to his wife, Betty:

"Never have I witnessed such sincere hospitality and overwhelming spirit of true brotherhood as is practiced by people of all colours and races here in this ancient Holy Land, the home of Abraham, Muhammad and all the other Prophets of the Holy Scriptures. For the past week, I have been utterly speechless and spellbound by the graciousness I see displayed all around me by people of all colors.

"I have been blessed to visit the Holy City of Mecca, I have made my seven circuits around the Ka'ba, led by a young Mutawaf named Muhammad, I drank water from the well of the Zam Zam. I ran seven times back and forth between the hills of Mt. Al-Safa and Al Marwah. I have prayed in the ancient city of Mina, and I have prayed on Mt. Arafat."

"There were tens of thousands of pilgrims, from all over the world. They were of all colors, from blue-eyed blondes to black-skinned Africans. But we were all participating in the same ritual, displaying a spirit of unity and brotherhood that my experiences in America had led me to believe never could exist between the white and non-white."

"America needs to understand Islam, because this is the one religion that erases from its society the race problem. Throughout my travels in the Muslim world, I have met, talked to, and even eaten with people who in America would have been considered white - but the white attitude was remo
