First time ko na wala sa bahay during the annual Fiesta celebration sa Muzon.

Second Sunday of May! That means Mother's day na.

Seriously, dapat natin batiin ang ating mga mudra at kahit isang araw man lang ay let's make her feel very, very special.

I straggle hehe.

Siguro over confidence lang.

I died ten times inside that speed boat.

May kasama kaming muslim, buddhist, protestant at katoliko.

It's not so much for him siding with Pacman but for objectively analysing the fight and the scoring per round against the punchstat numbers. Even in his PBA stints that I've watched back in the Philippines, Mr. Henson had been my favorite commentator because of his accurate analysis of the game at hand (even the statistics recorded prior to a game) and his "extra" bits of information that makes ordinary fans even more excited to watch the game. Maybe that's why Mr. Henson deserved to be the first Filipino recipient of the first-ever PhilippinesCatholic Mass Media Award in the sports column category (2005) and first Filipino recipient of the first-ever Olympism Award from the Philippine Olympic Committee for excellence in journalism (2004).

The following is Mr. Henson's article for www.Philstar.com which should be read by every boxing fans, aficionados and know-it-alls especially those who are reprobating the judge's decision and discounting the effort Manny Pacquiao showed the whole world.

********************

"The problem with some Filipino fans is they’ve been spoiled by Pacquiao

casting doubt on the integrity of Manny Pacquiao’s win by split
decision over Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas last Saturday.

Like the sourgrapers in Marquez’ camp,
they’re insinuating Top Rank chairman Bob Arum did a sleight of hand to
protect his hefty investment in Pacquiao by loading the judges panel
with personal choices. Marquez’ supporters claim the Mexican should’ve
won because the punchstats show he landed more blows.

Allow me to raise three points to clear the air on this issue.

First, the record will establish that both
Pacquiao and Marquez gave their thumbs-up on the three judges who were
assigned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. In fact, one original
choice Bill Flaherty was replaced on Pacquiao’s instance because he is
Roach’s family friend. He was subbed by Tom Miller, 48. The two other
judges were veterans Duane Ford, 70, and Jerry Roth, 66, whose
reputation for fairness is unassailable. Ford has been a judge since
1978 and Roth, 1982. They’ve been involved in major world title fights
before so working last Saturday’s fight was not an unfamiliar
experience.

Miller has been a judge since 1996. By the
way, it was recently disclosed that in his personal scorecard, Flaherty
scored it 114-113 for Pacquiao, the same as Miller. So the verdict
would’ve been the same even if Flaherty had not been replaced.

Moriones Festival

Moriones Festival, Marinduque, Philippines

17 Mar 2008
             - 23 Mar 2008

The annual Moriones Festival is a week-long religious event that begins on Holy Monday and ends on Easter Sunday. It is one of the most colourful events in the Philippines and sees participants re-enact the story of Longinus, a Roman centurion who, it is said, speared the crucified body of Jesus Christ. Legend has it that the blood which flowed from Christ’s body landed in Longinus’ bad eye, curing him of blindness. This miracle caused him to convert to Christianity and he was consequently hunted by his fellow centurions. This part of the story is dramatically retold by costumed participants, the Romans wearing huge painted masks depicting fearsome faces. The performances take place in various locations throughout the island of Marinduque.

Other Bits of Info:

Morion means mask or visior, refer to the colorfully garbed and masked soldiers and centurions during Christ's Passion, a part of Roman armor which covers the face. Morion serves as the focal point of the Moriones festival and celebrations.

The towns of Boac, Gasan, Santa Cruz, Buenavista and Mogpog on the island of Marinduque are the main focus during the festival.

An interesting bit of this festival is the reverence given to a sculpture depicting the dead body of Christ (Santo Sepulcro) in which old women exchange Biblical verses as they stand in wake of the dead Christ.

The hagiography claims that Longinus "pierced the side of Our Lord while He was hanging on the cross." So far so good. It also informs that, when blood and water poured out from the wound, Longinus said, "Indeed, this was the Son of God." Read on...

In Philippine history, Marinduque island only played a role in 1646 when it was the site of a battle between the Spanish and an attacking Dutch force. The Spanish won. Since then and up to today, military events have spared the island and its population as even the NPA has not opened a front there.

St. Longinus is the centurion who pierced the side of Our Lord while He was hanging on the Cross. YouTube is rolling it out in a somewhat haphazard manner. Some the

Water helps prevent memory loss as we age.

Water Myths

Water
may be the most undervalued nutritional and therapeutic element on this
planet. Modern society has made four large assumptions about hydration
that are not true. These assumptions are being overturned by visionary
scientists who see clearly how important adequate hydration is, and how
dehydration is the cause of many chronic conditions.

These
four assumptions about water and health have contributed to widespread
epidemics of obesity, diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
While it may take another five years for our culture to embrace these
newfound truths, in time they will. In part because the value of
adequate hydration as a prevention tool will save employers billions of
dollars and help to reduce the crushing costs of the "sick care"
industry. Also, both employers and employees want prevention because
they don’t want the suffering and cost of "sick care".

Water Myth 1: Responding to thirst in the mouth is enough to keep a person adequately hydrated.

Truth:
Thirst in the mouth arises only after you are already 2% dehydrated. In
38% of the population the thirst mechanism is "broken" and thirst is
mistaken for hunger. When deprived of adequate water the body activates
a "drought management response". Water is moved from less critical
bodily functions toward more critical ones. Most of this water comes
from your cells, which require water to function properly. This loss of
water at the cellular level causes systems to decay and die.

Updated Manifestations of "Thirst":
At the first level of dehydration thirst manifests as anxiety,
irritability, fatigue, depression, cravings, cramps and body aches to
name a few. At the second level of dehydration thirst manifests as
heartburn, joint and back pain, migraine headaches, angina,
constipation/colitis and fibromyalgia. At the third level of
dehydration thirst manifests as allergies, asthma, hypertension,
diabetes, lupus, psoriasis and various autoimmune and neurological
diseases. Studies have shown that dehydration contributes to many other
chronic conditions including cancers, and that adequate hydration
reduces the risk of contracting them.

Water Myth 2: Water only dissolves and circulates substances in the body.

Truth:
Water is responsible for these types of life sustaining activities and
more. Water moving through cell membranes actually produces a
significant portion of the energy the cell then uses to perform its
functions. Less water equals a lower level of cellular function.

Water Myth 3: The body efficiently regulates water intake over a lifetime.

Truth:
The body actually looses its capacity to register "thirst" as we age.
The decline of the thirst mechanism begins at about age 30 and becomes
much more significant in old age. As we age, we naturally dehydrate.
Adequate hydration into old age can help maintain a youthful vitality
and slow down "aging".
Water Myth 4: Liquids other than water can substitute for water’s life giving properties.
Truth:
Water in other liquids rarely has restorative benefits equal to water.
Many are incapable of producing sufficient energy at the cellular
level. Many substances actually cause a net loss of body water. A
20-ounce beer or caffeinated cola will actually cause about a 10-ounce
net water loss in the body.

CNSHS Batch '98 Love Teams

Dear Batchmate,
Here it goes:

1. Imhaem & Eryl. Bagay na bagay talaga sila and I don't think meron kumontra. Si Imhan ba naman na siyang nanalo sa CNSHS Beauty and Popularity Contest (di ko na matandaan ang exact title ng pakontes) ay ipares mo kay tall, dark and handsome na si Eryl eh parang match made in heaven. Latest update: Break na sila after a long relationship. Sayang naman.

2. Marife & Carlson. Kung di lang sila nagkahiwalay ng section nung 4th year ay baka sila ang nasa top spot natin beating Imhan and Eryl. Like our number one couple, punong-pino sila ng sweetness sa isa't isa.

3. Janice & Alvin. IMHO (at least nung 1994-98), the only thing they have in common ay ang curly hairs nila. Pero dahil sa in the name of love (hahaha sablay na ako) sila pa rin ang isa sa more popular and interesting couples ng batch. The Good (Janice), the bad (Brod Alvin, peace bro) and the ugly (ako yun, ang witness). Kelan kaya ang kasal? :-) Latest update: Relationship is getting stronger everyday.

4. Menx & Unyo. Since 1st year high school para na silang magnets na attracted to each other. Wala na ko masabi pang iba except sa I was surprised to see Unyo in Menx's 18th birthday celebration sa Maragondon. Latest update: Menx is happily married at meron na siyang cute angel while Unyo has turned into a hiphop tongue wag.

5. Sharie & Jason. Beauty and Brains all over. I can still remember na dun pa kami nagla-lunch sa resto ng dambuhalang babae na in a way ay connected yata kay Sharie just so Jocs can have updates about Sharie's activities after school, likes and dislikes, hobbies, etc. Syempre dahil kaibigan si Jocs eh join ako together with (minsan) Angelico, Jhesthee at Bryan. I can still remember yung ngiti ni Jocs na hanggang tainga nung acquaintance party nung 2nd year na kami when she saw Sharie that night wearing that black and silky skirt, black high-heeled boots and the (dark blue?) blouse. Latest update: Sharie is in the States, Jocs working hard to organize the batch reunion.

6. Avegail & Ner. Another perfect match. Handsome and cool guy and one of the prettiest face sa batch. I'm sure walang nag-disagree dito sa team up nila. Latest update: Ner in KSA, I have no news about Avegail.

7. Janice & Lestre. Castor and Zapanta team...parang di sila magtatagal. That was what I thought before. I was correct. Another double brod of mine si Brod Lestre na zany and funny. Latest update: Lestre in QC, I have no info about Janice.

8. Ferry & Angelico. Parang di pwede makasama ang couple na ito sa list kasi Batch '97 si Ferry but what the heck I witnessed how they showed love for each other (hindi ako namboso ha PDA lang sila LOL). :D No info about neither of the two.

9. Sheila Marie & Ecar. Wala akong alam na tsismis or fact about the two former love birds. Latest update: Mrs. Sheila Agapito is currently in Australia, kay Ecar walang balita.

10. Menx & Jeffsie.

Ria & Jason

Janice & Brian

Barbara Ann & Vladimir Bethoven

Teody & Vladimir Bethoven

Birthday Pinoy

Happy birthday to you, you belong to the zoo with the monkey and the donkey and the elephant too!

Pitong taong gulang.
Pabitin, stop dance, trip to jerusalem, pukpok palayok at pabilisan umubos ng isang boteng san miguel beer light.

Labing walong taong gulang.

The baby is now a lady ika nga ng mga konyo. Fast forward 3 months after the very memorable night sa buhay ng ating bida...

Maybe because March is the prelude of summer in the land of coconut and dried mangoes. Di ko yata na-gets? Mainit kasi? Or is it because March has the highest average of fire-related incident recorded by BFP since it's inception in the government system?

Kaya make sure that your electrician (certified dapat wag yung poging mama na nakita mo lang sa tindahan ni Aling Pekla) checks all electrical wirings and connections sa inyong bahay.

Sana ay matuloy ito in the near future.

Less than a hundred (97 or 94?) lang ang natira sa batch nung time ng graduation from a total of 120+ nung nagsimula tayo under the tutelage of Ms. Pareja.

Gosh!!!

Sorry sir hehe.

I woke up to a very beautiful day nung graduation namin pero di ako masyado masaya kahit na makakalaya na ako sa kulungan ni Mrs. De Vera kasi alam kong marami ako mami-miss.

Hearts Day or Valentine's Day na naman!

Bakit? Panagbenga Festival kasi :-)
Here are some information about Panagbenga Festival:

The Panagbenga Festival is held yearly during the month of February. The celebrations are held for over a month and peak periods are the weekends. The Panagbenga Festival showcases the many floral floats and native dances. The fragrant smells that could be presently teasing olfactory senses are probably less from the now-dried flowers from Valentine's Day than air floating all the way from Baguio City. At this time of year, the City of Pines is almost surely in flower fury over Panagbenga festival, the city's biggest festival.

Panagbenga is a kankanaey term for "a season of blooming." It is also known as the Baguio Flower Festival, a homage to the beautiful flowers the city is famous for as well as a celebration of Baguio's re-establishment. Since February 1995, it has been held to help Baguio forget the 1990 earthquake that distressed much of the city.

Panagbenga festival will have spectators enjoying a multiple floral and float parades over two days. The Baguio Flower Festival Association (BFFA) will have a street dancing parade and band exhibition. The Baguio Flower Festival Foundation (BFFF), meanwhile, will hold a parade. So where should spectators be stationed to not miss any of the float and floral parades? Session Road and Burnham Park. A search for the Mr. and Ms. Baguio Flower Festival, FM Panagbenga Pop Fiesta, Skateboard competition and Dolls of Japan exhibit were added to the BFFA calendar. The festival is supported by constituents of La Trinidad, La Union, Pangasinan, Marinduque and Masbate.

Often a Cañao is an undertaken to kick-off & celebrate the occasion. A Cañao is a dance that also is regularly performed at special occasions such as fiestas. In this two-person dance, the men hang blankets usually woven with an indigenous pattern or design-over each shoulder. The woman wraps a single similar blanket around her. The man leads her and dances in a circle with a hop-skip tempo to the beat of sticks and gongs. The dance must continue until the viewers decide to honor the dancers twice with a shout of "Ooo wag, hoy! hoy!" Once this has happened, the dancers can stop. It is an honor to be invited to join the dance, and elders and other respected members of the community are expected to join in at every occasion.

Other notable events:

Bulaklak Rock Battle of the Bands at the Skating Rink; Local Arts Show at the People’s Park; Veteran Records Skateboard Competition at the Skating; Dolls of Japan Exhibit and Eiga Sai at the Baguio Convention Center Lobby; Kitefest at the Athletic Bowl.

GETTING THERE

Baguio is easy to get to by air and land transportation. From Manila, the latter is the more popular choice, although at this time of the year, it may prove to be a hassle. If you prefer to fly to the City of Pines, some airlines maintain a daily schedule of flights from Manila to Baguio and back, like Asian Spirit. If, however, you go for a four-hour joyride, there are a variety of bus companies, garage cars, and tour operators for the convenience of tourists and visitors.

HISTORY

It all began in 1995 when lawyer; Damaso E. Bangaoet, Jr., John Hay Poro Point Development Corporation (JPDC) Managing Director for Camp John Hay, offered to the Board of Directors of JPDC the idea of organizing the holding of a flower festival in Baguio City. The Board, then directed by the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) Chairman Victor A. Lim and JPDC President Rogelio L. Singson, approved the project immediately. It was also decided that the Festival be held every February.

From the very start, JPDC saw itself as the maker, not the producer of the Festival. As a result, its plan was to present the idea to the different sectors of the community: government, education, business, media and civic organizations. This was not only to solicit their support, but also to gather their suggestions and ideas. Their response was generally warm and immediate, except for a few doubting Thomases. Nevertheless, the idea had fallen on fertile ground. It grew as a wellspring of community support fed resources into the project. The Baguio Flower Festival was an idea on its way to becoming a reality.

Making the idea a reality fell into the hands of the BFF Secretariat which was chaired by Attorney Bangaoet and operated by JPDC staff and volunteers led by Eric Jonathan Picart. In Addition, an advisory group of flower enthusiasts like Rebecca Domogan, Gloria Vergara, Julie Cabato, Willie Magtibay and Efren Chat was formed. They began by creating an identity for the Festival, one that would reflect the history, traditions and values of Baguio and the Cordilleras. In October 1995, the Baguio Flower Festival obtained face. Its official logo was chosen from entries to the Annual Camp John Hay Art Contest. The competition was open to elementary, high school and college students of Baguio. Its theme revolved around preserving the environment with a special importance on the flowers of the Cordillera. Instead of a complete painting, the eminent board of judges led by well-known artist BenCab chose a spray of sunflowers on the corner of the entry submitted by Trisha Tabangin, a student of the Baguio City National High School.

Shortly thereafter, a Festival hymn was composed by Professor Macario Fronda of Saint Louis University. To this music was added the rhythm and movements of the Bendian dance, an Ibaloi dance of celebration. The Bendian dance's circular movements speak of unity and harmony among members of the tribe - themes that foretell the coming together of the various sectors of the community to bring the Baguio Flower Festival to life.

Information sourced from: http://www.philippinecountry.com/philippine_festivals/panagbenga_festival.html

Click here for Calendar of Events of Panagbenga 2008

Meron din kung minsan yung mongo and/or buko flavor, pwede yan paghaluin or magkahiwalay.
