Forward - by Peter Corbett and John Kelly:

The Liverpool Dream Artwork was conceived to commemorate the 800th Anniversary year of King John's signing of the Liverpool Charter in 1207, also Carl G Jung's dream of Liverpool in 1927, and to mark and look forward to the cities future in the twenty first century.

The piece consists of, in the right hand section, a rectangle of black polished slate with "The Pool of Life" poem engraved into it, finished with gold leaf.  This was written in the early 1980's at a time when there was a substantial cultural flowering in Art, Drama, and especially music; with Eric's Club, the Liverpool School of Language, Music, Dream and Pun in Mathew Street and 'Creative Mind' in Manesty's Lane being notable at the time.

The central medallion consists of the Liver Bird in white marble bas-relief and was executed by sculptor Terrance McGonigle of the Merseyside Forum.

The left hand rectangle of white marble again, has the Liverpool Dream Image in the centre of it and was based on a painting completed by Peter Corbett in the early 1980's, and worked closely with Liverpool artist John Kelly to develop and improve the design concept - into a computerised image format.

All the work by the artists has been given Pro Bono, for the people and City of Liverpool, to celebrate this special year.  Hopefully you will find some inspiration in the piece.  This year and the next are a turning point for us all in Liverpool; if we all pull together we can make a genuine Renaissance happen here, and the prospects to date look promising.

Our thanks also go to Councillor Lawrence Sidorzuk for his recitation of Jung's Dream imagery at the opening on 13th June.  It was very much appreciated.
